This invention relates generally to nasal protectors. More particularly, my invention relates to a certain new and useful improvement in what I may designate as nasal filters and has for its object the provision, as a new article of manufacture, of a structure that may be conveniently installed in a nostril for filtering incoming air for general health and nasal protection.

And with the above and other objects in view, my invention resides in the novel features of form, construction, arrangement, and combination of parts presently described and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawing:

Figure 1 is an elevational view of a nasal filter embodying my invention;

Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the filter, taken approximately along the line 2-2, Figure 1;

Figure 3 is an inverted plan view of the filter; and

Figure 4 illustrates the filter in applied posi tion within a nostril.

Referring now more in detail and by reference characters to the drawing, which illustrates a preferred embodiment of my invention, the filter includes a body A constructed of a suitable preferably integral block or section of cushion rubber or other relatively soft cushion material that will resiliently approximately maintain its initial or original shape and has a size, form, and contour for snugly fitting removably within a nostril B.

As shown, the body A has a base which centrally is relatively broad, as at l, for lightness in weight and resiliency is chambered, as at a, gently rounded at its one, or so-called forward, margin, as at 2, and narrowed and tail-like elongated at its opposite, or so-called rear, end, as at 3, so as to neatly conform to the lower portion of a nostril B, as best been in Figure 4.

Body A in side elevation has the somewhat angular formation best seen in Figure 1 and has such height that its apex 4 is disposed suffioiently or suitably within the nostril B as shown in Figure 4.

The base chamber a divides the body A, as it may be said, to comprise side walls a, a, which are relatively thick at the central base-portion l and for a portion of their height, and which, beginning at a point, as at a", on the opposite sides of the body A gently converge into a thin, nicely rounded apex 4 connected to the tail 3 by a relatively long obtusely sloping top wall 5 and to the front margin 2 by a steeply or acutely oblique front wall 6, as also best seen in Figure 2.

Then formed in the side walls a and opening upon the base I and upon the sides of the body A at approximately the location a", is a plurality of longitudinally disposed relatively minute airfiltering passages 1.

Accordingly, in use, the body A is slightly compressed and then disposed in a nostril B, as shown in Figure 4, the filter automatically being retained in the nostril B through its own expanding resiliency. So disposed, the passages 1 permit substantially normal breathing and yet filter foreign particles from the incoming air, which particles may pass outwardly during the act of exhaling or the body A may be easily cleaned on the body A being again compressed and removed from nostril position.

The article, which, of course, is employed in pairs and constructed in various sizes to meet requirements, is simple and inexpensive, may be conveniently installed, is comfortable in use, and is exceedingly efiicient in the performance of its intended functions.

It is to be understood that changes in the form, construction, arrangement, and combination of the several parts of the filter may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described without departing from the nature and principle of my invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

l. A nasal filter comprising a yieldingly compressible cushion body contoured and dimensioned for disposition in a nostril, said body being of angular formation in side elevation with its apex presented upwardly and having side walls relatively thick for a portion of their height and then upwardly converging into said apex and provided with a plurality of longitudinally extending minute air-passages opening upon its base and upon said side wall at a point intermediate their height.

A nasal filter comprising a yieldingly oompressible cushion body contoured and dimensioned for disposition in a nostril, said body having a base centrally broad, rounded at its front margin, and reduced to tail-like formation at its rear margin, said body being of general angular formation in side elevation with its apex presented upwardly and having side walls relatively thick for a portion of their height and then upwardly converging into said apex and provided with a plurality of longitudinally extending minute air-passages opening upon its base and upon said side walls at a point intermediate their height. 7

A nasal filter comprising a yieldingly compressible cushion body contoured and dimensioned for disposition in a nostril, said body having a. base centrally broad, a 'rounded front margin, and reduced to tail-like formation at its rear margin, said body being of general angular formation in side elevation with its apex presented upwardly and joined to said front 10 tion of their height and then upwardly converging into said apex and provided with a plurality of longitudinally extending minute air-passages opening upon its base and upon said side walls at a point intermediate their height.
