Description

March 11, 1941. 'A JAcKsN 2,234,864
FIRECRACKER HOLDER Filed May 20, 1959 In venior A LBERT JACKSON A ttomeys Patented Mar. 11, 1%4-1 UNITED snares PATENT GFFHCE 2 Claims.
The present invention relates to holders for firecrackers while the same are being fired and has for its primary object to provide a. device of this character adapted to protect a person from injury while the firecracker is being ignited and exploded.
A further object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, efficient and reliable in use, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part hereof,
wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which- Figure 1 is a top plan View.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on a line 22 of Figure 1, and
Figure 3 is a front elevational view.
Referring now to the drawing in detail wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a p efe red embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates a substantially conical shield having its wide end 6 open and its narrow end formed with a slotted opening I having its edges converging toward one end of the slot as at 8. The side of the shield adjacent the wide end of the slot is secured to a fiat arm 9 by rivets Ill.
The arm is formed as an extension of a handle II, the arm and handle being integrally formed from a piece of strap metal, the arm constituting one end of the strap and the handle being formed by looping the intermediate portion of the strap and securing the end of the loop by a rivet l2. The other end of the strap is bent upwardly in spaced relation rearwardly of the slot 1 to provide a shield 13.
The portion of the arm 9 between the rear end of the shield 5 and the upstanding shield I3 is curved downwardly as at IT to enable a match or other igniting device to be positioned under the fuse l5 of a firecracker I B when the latter has been placed in the shield and with the fuse inserted in the slot 1 and. drawn upwardly into the restricted end 8 which grips and holds the fuse against displacement. An opening [8 is formedin the offset portion I! for receiving an 5 attaching nail to secure the holder to a supporting structure.
The shields 5 and I3 obviously protect the hands and body of a person from injury by the burning of the fuse and the exploding of the fire- 10 cracker.
It is believed the details of construction and manner of use of the device will be readily understood from the foregoing without further detailed explanation.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is 1. A firecracker holder comprising a hollow tapering barrel open at each end and adapted to accommodate a firecracker with its fuse projecting rearwardly from the barrel and a handle for the barrel formed of strap metal having its intermediate portion provided with a return bend and constituting the hand-gripping portion of the handle, one end of the strap being secured to the barrel and an upstanding shield at the other end of the ,strap and positioned in spaced relation behind the rear end of the barrel.
2. A firecracker holder comprising a hollow tapering barrel open at each end and adapted to accommodate a firecracker with its fuse projecting rearwardly from the barrel, a handle for the barrel formed of strap metal having its intermediate portion provided with a return bend and constituting the hand-grip portion of the handle,
one end of the strap being secured to the barrel,
a downwardly extending off-set portion in the strap rearwardly of the barrel to accommodate an igniting element when inserted under the fuse and an upstanding shield at the rear end of the strap 4 and positioned in spaced relation behind the rear end of the barrel.
