2 Claims.
This invention relates to an amusement device embodying the basic principle of the see-saw.
The principal object of my invention is to provide an amusement device embodying lever beams mounted preferably in parallel relationship, each fulcrumed adjacent one end, and interconnecting means between said beams to cause opposite tilting motion to either of said beams when the other of said beams is tilted.
A further object is to provide a pair of lever beams fulcrumed to tilt relative to a base member and provided with interconnecting means 50 arranged as to cause the lever beams to simultaneously tilt in opposite directions relative to each other when operated.
A further object is to provide seats at the free ends of the lever beams adjustable longitudinally thereof.
A further object is to provide an amusement device providing substantially parallel riding beams each fulcrumed adjacent one end thereof and provided with interconnecting rocker links, the whole construction being so arranged that the persons using the same sit side by side and the construction is restricted in size to occupy approximately one-half of the length required for the ordinary fulcrumed see-saw, commonly known as teetertotter.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of cooperating elements as hereinafter more specifically set forth, claimed and shown in the accompanying drawings forming a part of the present application, in which:
Fig. l is a top plan view of the preferred embodiment of my invention.
Fi 2 is a side elevation view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view, taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Figs. 5 and 6 are longitudinal and transverse sectional views respectively of one of the seats, as taken on the lines 5-5 and 6-6 of Fig. 1.
Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the different views.
1 indicate the side members of a frame, having interconnecting members 8 and 9. I are uprights connected adjacent their lower end to the side members i and provided with suitable brace members II and cross-brace members 12.
M and 15 are lever beams which are fulcrumed, preferably adjacent one end thereof, respectively to the upper ends of the uprights ID as at It.
The respective outer ends of the long arms of the lever beams l4 and I are each provided with a longitudinal slot, as at I1. [8 and I9 are seats supported on the free end of their respective lever beams and engaged therewith by means of 5 the bolt 20 passing through the slot I1 and having a wing-nut 2! carried thereon. By this construction, the seats may be adjusted longitudinally of their respective lever beams to counteract the difference in weight of operators. 22 are resilient bumpers under the free ends of the lever beams l4 and IS. The seats I8 and I9 may be provided with any desired type of handle, such as those illustrated at 23.
I provided an upright link 24, the lower end of which is pivotally connected to the cross member 9 and the upper end pivotally supports the rocker arm 25. The ends of the rocker arm 25 are respectively universally connected to the ends of the short arms of the lever beams l4 and I5 by means of toggle links' 26 and 21,
The beams are referred to as tiltably mounted, which term is to be considered as covering rocking of the beams relative to their fulcrum point or pivoting of the beams relative to their pivotal point.
The foregoing specification and annexed drawings disclose the preferred embodiment of my invention, but it is to be understood that minor changes may be resorted to in the commercial 30 adaptation of my invention without departing from the scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
What I claim as new is:
1. An amusement device comprising a base frame, lever beams fulcrumed on said frame, an upright link having one of its ends connected to said frame, a rocker arm pivotally connected to and supported from the other end of said upright link, a universal connection between the respective ends of said upright link carried rocker arm and said lever beams, whereby the tilting of one of said lever beams will cause the other lever beam to be tilted in the relative opposite direction.
2. An amusement device comprising a base 4 frame, lever beams fulcrumed at a point adjacent one of their ends on said frame, an upright link having one of its ends connected to said frame, a rocker arm pivotally connected to and supported from the other end of said upright link, a universal connection between the respective ends of said rocker arm and the lever beams, to thereby compel the tilting of the respective lever beams in opposite directions under operative influence applied to either such beam.
