Inasmuch as the disk construction forms no part of the present invention per se, a more detailed disclosure'of the same is not believed necessary.
From the foregoingit will be apparent that I have provided a simple and efficient form of packer which readily lends itself to various uses in conjunction with the operation and drilling of wells.
The terms upper, lower and "bottom are employed in a relative sense for purposes of description and without intent of limiting the invention thereby as it will be apparent that the structure may be inverted or otherwise disposed whereby such terms might not so clearly apply as when the structure is disposed in the manner illustrated in the drawings.
Without further elaboration, the foregoing will so fully explain the invention that others may, by applying current knowledge, readily adapt the same for use under various conditions of service. Moreover, it is not indispensable that all the features of the invention be used conjointly since they may be employed advantageously in various combinations and sub-combinations.
It is obvious that the invention is not confined to the herein described use therefor as it may be utilized for any purpose to which it is adaptable. It is therefore to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific construction as illustrated and described as the same is only illustrative of the principles of operation, which are cap-able of extended application in various forms, and thattheinvention comprehends all construction within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A device of 'the character described comprising a tube having upper, lower and interjacent sections with the latter connecting the former together, a shell carried by said interjacent section and coacting with thev latter to dene a plunger chamber therearound, 'an expandable plunger normally disposed in said chamber and slidably operated ona'said tube out of said chamber, said interjacent'section formed with a convexly protuberant Aportion superjacent said chamber for receiving and expanding said plunger thereon when the latter is actuated out of said chamber and with said portion coacting with said plunger to dispose the latter in sealing engagement with a well wall.
2. A device f the character described comprising aA tube having upper, lower and interjacent sections with the latter connecting the former together, a shell carried by said interjacent section and coacting with the latter to dene a plunger chamber therearound, an expandable plunger normally disposed in said chamber and slidably operated on said tube out of said chamber, said interjacent section formed with a convexly protuberant portion superjacent said chamber for receiving and expanding said plunger thereon when the latter is actuated out of said chamber and with said portion coacting with said plunger to dispose the latter in sealing engagement with a Vwell wall, said tube provided with ports communicating with said 'chamber for introducing uid Within said chamber for actuatingl said together, a shell carried by said interjacent section and coacting with the latter to dene a. plunger chamber therearound, an expandable plunger normally disposed in said chamber and slidably operated on said tube out of said chamber, said interjacent section formed with a convexly protube'rant portion superjacent said chamber for receiving and expanding said plunger thereon when the latter is actuated out of said chamber and with said portion coacting with said plunger to dispose the latter in sealing engagement with a well wall, and means carried by said tube adjacent said portion for engaging said plunger when actuated out of said chamber to position and maintain said plunger over said portion.
4. A device of the character described comprising a tube having upper, lower and interjacent sections with the latter connecting the former together, a shell carried by said interjacent section and coacting` with the latter to define a plunger chamber therearound, an expandable plunger normally disposed in said chamber and slidably operated on said tube out of said chamber, said interjacent section formed with a convexly protuberant portion superjacent said chamber for receiving and expanding salid plunger thereon when the latter is actuated out of said chamber and with said portion coacting with said plunger to dispose the latter in sealing engagement with a well wall, said tube provided with ports communicating with said chamber for introducing ,iiuid within said chamber for actuating said plunger over said portion, and means carried by said tube adjacent said portion for engaging said plunger when actuated out of said chamber to position and maintain said plunger over said portion.
5. In combination with a well tube, a packer connected in said tube and having a pair of oppositely disposed portions with one of said portions of a greater diameter than the other and constituting an expander, a housing connected to said tube adjacent said expander and circumspatially with the other portion, an expandable sleeve slidably mounted in said housing and having an inside diameter exceeded by said first mentioned diameter to eiect expansion of said sleeve when the latter is actuated over said expander from said housing, and means for introducing uid within said housing for actuating said sleeve.
6. A packer adapted to be connected in a well tube and formed with a pair of oppositely disposed portions with one of said portions of a greater diameter than the other and constituting an expander, a housing connected to said packer adjacent said expander and circumspatially with the other portion, an expandable sleeve slidably mounted in said housing and having an inside diameter exceeded by said first mentioned diameter for eiecting expansion of said sleeve when the latter is actuated over said expander from said housing, and means for introducing fluid within said housing for actuating said sleeve.
