This invention relates to an improved footstool including an invertible frame and a removable and invertible double ended cushion adapted to be mounted therein.

It is a primary object of this invention to provide a novel piece of furniture in the form of a footstool and including an invertible frame for supporting a removable double ended cushion whereby the frame may be inverted for disposing either end of the cushion uppermost and in position for use.

A further object of the invention is to provide means for slidably and removably mounting a cushion in a frame to enable the cushion to be readily removed for cleaning, reupholstering or replacing.

Still a further aim of the invention is to provide a novel footstool including a cushion having two oppositely projecting cushion portions adapted to be covered with material of different color and design to match or blend with dillerent pieces of furniture, with which the article is intended to be used, so that the footstool may be inverted when moved from one piece of furniture to another and in either position the uppermost cushion portion will match or blend with the piece of furniture with which it is to be used.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, wherein like reference characters designate like or corresponding parts throughout the different views, I0 designates generally the footstool including the frame and cushion, designated generally II and I2, respectively.

The frame II includes the corresponding side members I3 each of which is provided at each end with the corresponding arcuately shaped diverging portions I4 and I5 forming legs which terminate in the rounded ends I6 and I1, respectively. The ends I B and I1 project in opposite directions to form feet for alternately supporting the frame II. The corresponding feet I6 and I1 of the side members I3 are connected by the rungs I 8 which retain said members in spaced substantially parallel relationship. A corresponding longitudinally disposed flange or rib I9 is mounted on the inner side of each of the members I3, for a purpose which will hereinafter be described.

The cushion I2 comprises an intermediate base member from each side of which projects a cushion portion, designated 2I and 22, respectively. Cushion portions 2l and 22 have the

23 and 24, respectively, the edges of which are secured by the fastenings 25 to the edges of the base member 29, adjacent each side thereof and the space between each side of the base 29 and the

23 and 24 is lled with suitable packing 26. Two oppositely disposed edges of the base member 20 are provided with the longitudinal grooves 21 which are adapted to slidably engage the flanges I 9 for removably mounting the cushion I2 therebetween with either of the portions 2| or 22 uppermost.

The side members I3 are preferably provided with the brackets 28 disposed on the inner sides thereof and at corresponding ends of the flanges I9 for limiting the sliding movement of the cushion I2 in one direction relatively to the frame Il so that when the cushion I2 is abutting the brackets 28 it will be centrally disposed relatively to the frame II.

From the foregoing it will be seen, that the cushion I2 may be readily removed by sliding it relatively to the flanges I9, away from the brackets 23 to remove it through one end of the frame II or applied to the frame by reversing the procedure and when mounted therein will be supported by the flanges I9. The thickness of the cushion I2 in its entirety is substantially greater than the width of the side members I3 so that the cushion portions 2I and 22 project beyond or beneath and above the longitudinal edges-of the members I3. 23 and 24 are preferably of dilferent color and design so that by inverting the footstool lil from its position as seen in Figure 1, resting on the feet I6 it will be disposed to rest on the feet I1 with the cushion portion 22 instead of the cushion portion 2| uppermost. Thus the covering of cushion portion 2| may correspond or blend with one piece of furniture and the covering of cushion portion 22 with another so that by merelyv inverting the footstool its upholstery will correspond or blend with either piece of furniture with which it may be used. The flanges I9 and grooves 21 provide means for readily removing or applying the cushion I2 to enable it to be easily removed and more thoroughly cleaned particularly in otherwise inaccessible portions.

Various modifications and changes in the precise construction and arrangement of the parts forming the article are contemplated and may obviously be resorted to, and the right is therefore expressly reserved to make such variations and changes as do not depart from the spirit and scope of the invention as hereinafter dened by the appended claim.

I claim as my invention:

A footstool comprising a pair of spaced corresponding sides, each of said sides having corresponding end portions formed with pairs of arcuately shaped, diverging legs, the legs, of adjacent end portions, projecting in opposite directions, and terminating in rounded ends forming feet, rungs connecting the corresponding feet of said sides, said sides each being provided With a longitudinally disposed inwardly projecting rail; a base member provided with grooves in its opposite edges for slidably engaging said ribs for removably mounting it thereon, and a cushion projecting from each side of said base member and extending beyond corresponding longitudinal edges of the intermediate portions of said sides.
