Description

Jan. 7, 1941, D.MARINSKY -2.223,142
FLAT LOCKING SLIDER FOR FAS'IENERS Filed Jan. 26, 1939 ATTORNE faces of the links or scoops; that is when plated, enamelled, or otherwise coated links or scoops are employed, the upper surfaces-thereof cannot be marred or otherwise destroyed, anti further, no wear can appear 011 a. link or scoop of any type or kind. The term upper surfaces refers to the surfaces of the links or scoops as seen in Fig. 1.
It will also be apparent tha the pull 2l is coustructed cf resilient or springy material so tensionedas to normally assume a position similar to tha.t illustrated in full lines in Fig. 1, capable of outward flexure by engagement of the 1::ams I6 as is illustrated in Fig. 3.
The invention is applicable to metallic type of fasteners of the Kind under consideration wherein all of the par ts are composed of metal, but is also applicable to fasteners wherein the links or scoops may be composed of plastic materials and further wherein the slidermay be composed of plastic materials, und in fact, in using certain plastic materials such for example as cellulose acetate lt is possible to use this material in the sonstruction o1 the pull, cellulose acetate having suflicient spring properties to produce the desired result.
It will oi! course be apparent that with a. structure o! the kind, under consideration, the lock element end 20a o! the pull operates in the Iorm of a wedge or key, movable transversely with respect to the slider. Any Stress or stra.in on this elemerit is not transmittable to the pull. und thus a. positive lgcking 01 the slider is provided a.t all times, und when the slider is strained to move longitudlnally 01 the stringers by a tendency to separate the stringers as is experienced in the use of fastening devices o! this klnd upon certain articles and garments. It will also ppear that the cam portions I8 in addition to operating to rele'ase the lock element. also cooperate with the pull tosupport the same in either the i!ull or dotted line position showh in Fig. 1. In these positions o1 the pull lt will be understood that the upper surtaces o1 the pull are arranged below the upper or outer surtace 9a 01 the wall 9, so that the pull does not protrude beyond the suriace 9a. It will also appear that the contour 01 the pull 2l is such as to fit over the end I3a 01 the top well 9 oi the slider as is clearly illustrated in dot.
and dash lines in Fig. 1 01 the drawing.
' From the foregoing lt will appear that in additlon to providing a very simple practical end yet streng and durable form 013 lock i.or sllders o! the kind under consideration. lt is also possible to produce a slider body whlch will be considerably thinner than the conventional forms 01 sliders, and thus properly termed a flat slider. The advantage o! this construction is that in addltion to forming a neat and flnished appearance, lt also l'acilitates the laundering, preSsing end handling pi! the device es applied to merchandise o! various kinds and classes.
A slider 01 the kind under consideration adapts itself i!or use in the conventional locking type 01 slider as well as what is termed a reverse lock slider, suita.ble for use (m leggings and other articles 015 apparel und merchandise where the normal wide end portion 01' the slider hangs downwardly when the Iastener is in closed posltion. In both posltions the slider is securely retained against z povement on the stringers.
It will also appear that my invention, insofar as the flat slider constructionis concemed. is x:0t
necessarily restrlcted i'0r use in connection with lock sliders, in which latter event other Turms cf pulls may be employed end the camming surfaces IG may be dispensed with, aside Irom the desirabilitmoi! using such surfaces or'their equivalents l'or supporting the pull in either 01 the positions indicated in Fig. 1.
It will appea.r th'at one oiythe principles 01 my invention is in the-provision o! a. lockin element which is movably supported in the peripheral side eglge portion 01 the slider body to enter the channel thereof so as. to engage the links or scoops o! at least one stringer where mounted upon the stringer tape, and Iurther to engage side surfaces 01' the links or scoops below the upper surface thereof, the advantages o! the latter structure having been. heretoi'ore sei; forth.
It will 01 cou1se be apparent tha.t both pivot ends 20, 20a may be 01 sufilcient length to enter the channels so tha.t either o1 these ends may engage the stringer links l or 1a. In a balanced m'ounting of the pull 015 course only one pivot end ca.n function; It lt be desired to otherwise mount the pull. then both ends can be moved into locking position.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new end desire to secure by Letters Pat ent, is:
l. A-slider for separable fastener stringers 015 the dass described, said slider comprising a, channeled body having spaced top and bottom walls, the bottom wall haVing diverging channels at one end b0unded by inturned side flanges extending to the other end of said wall, the top.wall having at opposite sides thereof enlarged flange portions inner surfaces of which are in alinement with the inner surfaces of the flanges of said bottom wall for a portion of the length thereof,
adjacent the inwardly exten ding ends thereof being resilient, and said slider having acljacent the apertures therein cam surfaces adapted to flex said ends outwardly in the pii0tal moveme nt of saidpull into elevated position with respect to said slider. v
