Description

Patented Dec.v l 3l, 1940 UNITI-:Df-.sTATEs PATENT OFFICE- This invention relates to `fountain brushes adapted to be used to dispense liquid soapy material for shaving, and also other materials such as ink, paint or shoe polish, said invention being an improvement in the brush set forth in my Patent No. 1,300,651.
An important object of the invention resides in the provision of a handle portion made of transparent material so that the quantity of material contained therein may be readily visible.
Another object is to provide a handle portion forming a reservoir to contain a liquid and a mass of concentrated material in the from of soap, ink, shoe polish, or similar materials, the interior wall of the reservoir being roughened, or corrugated, to assure thorough mixing of the contained materials when the liquid is agitated.
Still another object is to provide a flexible or spring mounting for the solid concentrated ma#- terial to be dissolved within the reservoir, so that said material may be iiexed therein and reciprocated along the mounting during the aforesaid agitating period.
Still a further object of the invention is the production of a device that may be inexpensively manufactured and sold at a most reasonable price. The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawing and claimed. In said drawing:
Figure 1 is a central longitudinal sectional view` of the device inclosed in its casing.
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.' Referring now more in detail to the accompanying drawing. I indicates the handle of the device which is made of transparent material, such as glass, or the like, said handle being tubular to present a reservoir 2 open at one end as shown. The end of the handle, adjacent said opening` is externally threaded, as indicated at 3, toengage one end of the nutv 4, also preferably formed of transparent material, the bore 5 thereof being three dedly engaged by the bristle-carrying member, the latter comprising the sleeve 6 housing the ends of the bristles 'I suitably embedded in the plastic support 8. It will be noted a tube 9 is mounted within said sleeve 6 the same serving as an outlet for the material dispensed from the reservoir 2, as will presently appear. The positions of the assembled parts are .shown in Fig. 1 wherein it will be observed the bristle-carrying member is mounted in one end of the nut 4, whilst the end of the handle I is positioned within the larger bore ,55 at the other end of said nut, a packing ring I0 being interposed to assure a tight connection.
As hereinbefore pointed out, it is proposed to place dissolvable material into said reservoir 2 and to agitate said material in order to produce a liquefied material of requisite consistency for passage to the bristles 'I by way of the outlet 9. To this end the wall of said reservoir is roughened, or 5 corrugated, as indicated at Il, thereby assuring a complete blending and mixing of the materials. As shown in Fig; 1 a mass of material I2 composed vof material mentioned hereinbefore, may beA mounted on a flexible support I3, the end of the 10 latter being positioned within said plastic support 8, as indicated at I4, a bend I5 being interposed between said material I2 and the end embedded lin the plastic support to limit the travel of said material on its support. A suitable amount of fluid 15 having been placed within the reservoir, the device is agitated or shaken causing the material I2 to reciprocate on'its support and to contact the roughened sides of the reservoir due to the ilexibility of said support, thus assuring a supply of dis- 20 solved material to be transferred to the bristles when the device is inverted and used.
The brush may be completely inclosed in a casing which comprises the lower part I6 and the closure I1, said casing being preferably trans- 254 parent so that contents of the reservoir may be seen.
I claim:
1. A fountain brush having a handle forming a reservoir to contain a uid. the wall of said re- 30 servoir presenting a roughened portion, there being an outlet from said reservoir, a bristle-carrying member in communication with said outlet, and a mass of solid concentrated material positioned within the reservoir and normally out of 35 contact with said roughened portion and adapted to coact with the roughened portion of said reservoir and the fluid therein, when said material is agitated to produce dissolved material for passage to said bristle-carrying member.
2. A fountain brush having a han'dle forming a reservoir to contain a fluid, the wall of saidy reservoir presenting a series of corrugations, there being an outlet from said reservoir, a bristle-carrying member in communication with said outlet, 45 a mass of solid concentrated material within said reservoir, a resilient support for said material to normally maintain the same out of contact with said corrugations, the arrangement being such that when the fluid in the reservoir is 50 agitated said material cooperates therewith and contacts the corrugations within the reservoir to produce dissolved material for passage to 'said bristle-carrying member, and means associated with said support to limit the movement of the mass of material therealong.
