Description

Dec. 10, 1940. R w STROBEL I 2,224,527 I GARMENT BAGGER Filed April '26, 1959 k4 I v flickin FREDERICK WILLIAM STRUEEL Patented Dec. 10, 1940 i UNITED STATES PAT'ENT OFFICE GARMENT BAGGE-R Frederick William Strobel',,Washington, D. 0. Application April 26, 1939, seriainolzmzss I 3Claims. (o1.24s-1s1) This invention relates to garment baggers by The clutch unit is mounted within the post 4 the use of which -a garment is supported on a by the screws l5 and the threaded holes M. A hanger while the bag is being pulled down over screw hole It is provided in the top surface of the garment, the casing I to receive the screw H to retain The present invention has for an object to e cov P e 5 provide a portable device for the purpose stated N indicates a Passage in the Casing for the which can be easily manufactured at low cost rod t and which, while comparatively light will be so A hufiel block W having an pact Washer 0 constructed as to be sturdy, and will require few of leather or similar material is held to the hot- 10 if any repairs or replacements of parts after long tom of the base y threaded p screws 10 continued Recesses 22 are provided within the block l9 Another object is to provide a device of the t0 leeeiVe the buffer pri s character stated in which the garment holding A hole 24 is located Within e c g t! fo rod may be easily released to drop down out of the release rod 25 and within the base is located the way when desired, in such manner that it a foot v 5 h ving a recess 21 in one end to 15 will not rebound to any considerable extent when receive the end i the release rod 25. The other l a d, end of the foot lever 26 projectsthrough the Further it is an object to provide a garment base 1 I bagger, in which the garment holding rod may 29 indicates the piVOt 0f the lever 25. be securely held at any raised position desired, In Operation the o 6 i pulled Out y the 1 20 regardless of t wear on t red and t eluteh erator to the position desired where it will remain device no matter how much weight is placed on the Further it is an object to provide, in a, bagger, rod. The harder the rod 6 is forced downward a novel rod clutch and guide unit and a novel the tighter is the pp a on of the eccentric bumper or bufier unit which cooperate in fulfillroller. 25
m t aforesaid ti After the rod is pulled out to the desired height Other objects will in part be obvious and in and a ga t P aced thereon a garment ba part be pointed out hereinafter, is pulled down over the garment and the rod To the attainment of the aforesaid objects and after which the Operator g ps e a ment 30 ends the invention still further resides in the hanger and Steps 0n e eot lever-which re- 30 novel details of construction, combination and leases the 5 a w t to fall until it hits arrangement of parts, all of which will be first the bufferfully described in the following detailed descrip- The impact W r 20 serves to deaden the tion, and then be particularly pointed out in the pact sound and cooperates with the bufier appended claims, reference being had to the acsprings in absorbing t shOeke p gs are companying drawing i hi h preferably so designed that they will give as Fi 1 i a eress seetien of t device in elevalittle rebound force to the rod as possible. The rod 6 is provided at its What I Claim is; p
other end with a button I held in place on the end 1. In a garment bagger, a base, a hollow post 5 i of a rod 6 by a set screw 8 or in any other suitvertically mounted on said base, a clutch unit ab1e way, fixedly mounted within said hollow post at its ID indicates the casing of the clutch unit which upper end, a garment holding rod vertically slidcasing has a chamber II in which is located an able through said clutch unit, said clutch unit eccentric roller l2 mounted on the axis I3. comprising a block having a chamber, an eccen- 55 trio roller pivotally mounted in said chamber, said block having a rod passage intersecting said chamber through which intersection said roller contacts said garment holding rod to arrest its downward movement, another rod within said post and base to move said roller out of contact with said garment holding rod, and a foot operated lever projected out of said base and also engaging said another rod to operate the same.
2. In a garment bagger in which is provided a hollow post, a chambered base on which the post is mounted and a garment holding rod vertically movable in said post and arranged to fall lengthwise by gravity when released; a block in the base extending across the lower end of the post in line with said rod, a button on the lower end of the rod, said block having a leather pad on which the button rests, and springs carriedby studs secured to said base and slidably securing said block in place as a shock absorbing device for the rod.
3. A garment bagger comprising a tubular post, a garment supporting rod mounted for vertical sliding movement in said post, a frictional locking member mounted in the post and engaged with said rod for releasably securing the rod in raised position, said frictional locking member comprising a block held in the post and including a garment-supporting-rod-engaging roller cam and having a guide aperture, a slidably mounted rod-releasing member projecting through said guide aperture to engage said roller cam for actuating the same to release position, and a pivotally mounted foot lever operatively connected to said rod-releasing member for elevating the same. v FREDERICK WM.
