Description
UNITED STATES. PATENT OEEIoE.
GEORGE COLLINS, or DlGKSON ooUNTY, TENNESSEE, ASSIGNOR OF oNE- HALF OF HIS RIGHT TO H. R. SHAOKLETT, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENTIN'MEDIOAL COMPOUNDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 221,909, dated November 25, 1879 application filed March 10, 1879.
To all whom it mag concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE OoLLINs, of the county of Dickson and State of Tennessee, have invented a new and useful Medicine to be used as an Antidote to Snake-Bites,which is fully described in the following specification.
To prepare the medicine, take the moss from the white-oak and hickory trees, from each one pound. Put the moss into a copper vessel with five gallons of water, boil down to two gallons, and strain the decoction.
I claim this to be superior to anything known to the medical profession for the cure of the bite or sting of any poisonous serpent or insect. I have used it for ten years for the bite of the rattlesnake, copperhead, cottonmouth, adder, the spider, 850., and it has never failed to efl'ect a rapid and permanent cure. If used immediately after being bitten or stung, it serves to neutralize the poison instantly, leavmg' no irritation about the Wound whatever.
I give one tablespoonful of the medicine to an adult from one to three hours apart, according to the time since the bite and the time required to continue the use of the medicine. If given immediately, one or two doses are su F- ficient; if after several hours, and there is much inflammation, it will require to be used longer, and should not be given so often. Bathe the wound with the medicine all the while.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A decoction of the moss of the white oak and hickory, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
I G. COLLIN S.
