IMPROVEMENT IN BED-SPRINGS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 221,555, dated November 11, 1879; applica-lion filed July 13, 1878.

To all whom t may concern:

Be it known thatl, HENRY HENLEY, of Bloomington, in the county of Monroe and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements iu Bed-Springs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to` the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this speciticat-i/on..\

My invention relates to springsfor bed-bottoms; and it consists in providing a duplex spring having an integral connection with outwardly-bent clasps,'substantially as and for the purpose hereinafter mentioned.

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure l is a plan view of a spring bedbot tom embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same.

My springs are made double or in pairsthat is to say, two spiral springs, A A, are made of one piece of wire, their upper or larger coils being connected by a bridge, B, in which are two bends or folds, b b, as shown in Fig. l.

^ The lower or smallest coil of each spring forms a clamp, a, for fastening the spring to the bedslat G. 1t will be particularly observed that the clasps a a are bent to clasp the slats out wardly or in opposite directions.

By thus constructing springs for bed-bottoms any inequalities in the width of the sla-ts or in the space between them may be easily and quickly provided for.

I am fully aware that it is not new to have a connecting-bridge between two springs, such as herein represented, and therefore I lay no claim to this feature/19er se but What I do claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A duplex bed-spring constructed ith an integral connecting-Wire portion, B, and provided with the bent clasps a a, for clasping the slats outwardly, substantially as described.
