3 Claims.
My device is an improved form of protection for use with bottled goods, the main object being to form a non-refillable unit when inserted within a bottle.
Another object is to provide a device that cannot be removed from the bottle once it is inserted in the throat, having a locking means attached thereto which preventsthe removal of the device.
These and other objects may be seen and noted from the following specification and its accompanying illustrations, in which:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of the device, partly in section, installed within the throat of a filled bottle.
Fig. 2 illustrates the insertion of the device within the bottle, the cork stopper and bottle cap not being shown; dotted lines indicate the dropped position of the locking plate when the device is fully inserted.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 of the device with the locking means in dropped or locking position.
Fig. 4 is a section on lines 44 of Fig. 1 showing the non-refillable valve unit in plan view.
Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 1 except that the bottle is empty and the locking unit is shown in locked position.
Fig. 6 is a sectional view of the throat of the bottle and the non-refillable device, the arrows marking the passage way out, of the fluid.
Fig. 7 is a similar view to Fig. 6 except that it is turned degrees from the position shown in Fig. 6, arrows again illustrating the passage outwardly, of the fluid.
Fig. 8 is a plan view of the lock catch.
It will readily be seen' from the following description that while the fluid will flow freely outwardly, it would prove a very tedious job to try and refill the bottle through the top as the fluid would have to pass through the passages in the top portion of the valve as shown in Fig. 6 and circulate around between the top and bottom plates of the valve to enter the bottle through the passages in the lower plate as illustrated in Fig. 7.

The said device consists of a valve casing l4 said casing being shouldered at the top at 14a with a tubular upwardly projectin portion l5 which is mounted securely within a cork stopper l6 and a double guard is pressed within the valve casing l4.
The double guard is constructed of two plates I l1 each has a petal like portion Ha upturned at the outer edge, said edges pressing against the inner wall of the shoulder Ma thus allowing passage of the fluid l3 between the petals Ila and out through the tubular portion l5.
The lower guard plate l8 also has petal like projections I811 which register with the passages between the petals Ila of the top plate ll. Both 1U plates l7 and I8 are mouhted on a rivet IS with a spacer ZIlbetween to form a passage therebetween for the liquid [3 as it is poured from the 'bottle or container It.
A pivoting locking device and valve is mounted it within the casing it below the valve plate It the beveled top portion. 2! fitting within the chamfered top surface 22a of a ring plug 22 pressed within the lower end of the casing l4.
A flat hanger plate 23 is secured within the tapered top portion 2| of the disk valve by means of a shouldered or riveted plug 23a at the top of of said plate 23.
Wings 24 project outwardly on opposite sides of the fiat plate 23, and an aperture 231) in said plate is directly below the said wings 24.
Mounted movably within the said aperture 231) of the plate 23 is an angular finger 25 at the top of the flat swinging weight 26. A lock or catch plate 21 is mounted over said finger 25 which projects through a slot 21a in said plate.
An angular projection 26a of the swinging weight 26 is slightly below and opposed to the angular finger 25, and thus when the locking plate 21 moves back it looks against the projection 35 26 and if it moves forward it locks in the under cut portion 25a of the finger 25.
When inserting the device within the bottle or container throat II the lock plate 21 is held in the position shown in Fig. 2 until the device is secured within-the throat and the sealing cap 38 is secured within the cork IS. The bottle l0 may then be tilted to approximately the position shown in Fig. 5 whereupon the swinging weight 26 assumes a position approximating that shown in Fig. 2 whereupon the lock plate 21 simultaneously drops downward and rests against the top surface of the swinging weight 26 as indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. 2, the device projecting far 50 enough within the bottle neck for the lock ring to clear the inner wall or throat I! as it drops downward, and then assuming an extended position which locks against the tapered wall of the bottle neck and thus prevents the locking device 55 from being withdrawn from the bottle neck I I for refilling the bottle.
When the bottle is tipped to pour the liquid I3 therefrom, the beveled portion 2| of the plug or disk valve moves away from the chamfered seat 22a of the plug 22 allowing a clear passage way from the bottle to within the casing l4 and through the valve.
In trying to refill the bottle I 0, the seating of the plug or portion 2| within the plug 22 prevents the liquid from passing within the bottle and the registering of the guard petals of one plate with the openings or passages between the valve petals of the other plate prevent access of a wire or other device for opening the valve to allow the liquid to pass into the bottle.
When the bottle is laid on its side the suspended Weight attached to the valve rod will close the valve and thereby prevent refilling of the bottle from its side position.
I claim:
1. The combination with a bottle, of a nonrefilling device comprising a casing within the bottle neck, said casing having a ring formed with a valve seat at its inner end, a disk valve coperating with said seat, a fixed guard in the outer end .of the casing, the disk being movable in the casing, between the ring and the guard, and a pivoted locking device suspended from said valve and depending below said casing and engageable with the interior of the bottle neck to prevent withdrawal of the device from the said neck.
2. The combination stated inclaim 1, thexcasing having a central reduced tubular outlet at its outer end, the guard consisting of a pair of plates having staggered openings at their outer edges, out of line with said outlet.
