GAME APPARATUS Filed April 6, 1938 QvezwfiAmieZenzls; I
, INVENTOR W IIII 5S ATTORNEYS Patented Aug. 27, 1940 pairs stares FATENT @FEME 1 Claim.
The invention relates to a game apparatus and more especially to a disk throwing game apparatus.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of an apparatus of this character, wherein skill is required in the handling of disks for scoring purposes and such handling assures exercise during the playing of the game by the participants.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an apparatus of this character, wherein the disks designed to be thrown at a target are of novel construction so that a player may handle such disks in a convenient manner and for obtaining a high score for the winning of a game.
A further object of the invention is the provision of an apparatus of this character, which is simple in its construction, entertaining in the playing of a game, assuring exercise to a player and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in View, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in 5 the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrative of the game apparatus constructed in accordance with the invention. 1
Figure 2 is an enlarged top plan View of one of the throwing disks or playing pieces of the apparatus.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view throughout.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the apparatus comprises a playing alley it, being laid out on any permanent flat floor surface and in this instance is closed at opposite longer sides and one end by a fencing I l or a guard planking,
while the other end remote from the closed end beingp ermanently opened. Close to the closed end of the alley It an dupon its fiat bed is created a target l2, in this instance in the form of a circle and a five-pointed star, the latter being within the circle and through demarcations is divided while the points of the star divide the circle into scoring spaces l3 and M,
respectively, bearing indicia identifying scoring points or areas.
55 The fencing II at one longer side of the alley ID has built therewith a return chute or trough l5 extending from the closed end to the open end of said alley and this chute or trough at the open end communicates with a depository l6 for the reception of returned play pieceshereinafter described.
Each play piece is in the form of a disk-like 5 body ll having at one side thereof and following the outer peripheral edge an annular beveled area it while in the opposite face of said bodyll at its center is a circular depression or recess 59, being any number of play pieces for the play- 10 ing a game by the apparatus according to rules and regulations in the playing of such game.- This recess E9 in the body. ll constitutes a pocket for the fingers of the hand or hands of a player of a game when grasping the body ll so that the 5 latter can be thrown or tossed by such player when standing at the open end of the alley in the direction of the target i2 for effecting a scoring by the said playing piece coming 'to' rest at the target and within one of the-scoring spaces 13 20 or i i thereof. The thrown play piece, after'a scoring had thereby, will be returned in the chute or trough to the depository it to be acquired by a player for a throw thereof in the playing of a game. 5
A player acquiring the highest score through 2 the throws of the play pieces becomes the winner of the game.
The play pieces are of a determined weight and in the use or throwing of the same give 30 exercise to a player when playing a game through such use. The play pieces are thrown in the alley ill from the open end to the closed end thereof, being aimed at the target l2 and such pieces may be thrown high or caused to ski 35 the bed of such alley and scoring at the target l2 is had when such thrown play piece comes to rest thereon.
The beveled area it assists the proper grasp of the play piece or body ii in the hand of a player 40 and coaction of this area with the pocket I9 for the fingers of the hand enables skillful throwing of the play piece for high scoring purposes in the playing of the game.
What is claimed is? 1 45 A game piece for playing a game comprising a disk-like body having at one side thereof and following the outer peripheral edge an annular beveled area and also in the opposite face of said body a center circular depression constitut ing a counterseated socket having a straight annular wall merging with the face next thereto and at right angles presenting a continuous ledge shoulder for the engagement of fingers of a hand of a player when grasping the body so that it
