I 10 Claims.
The present invention relates to milk bottle holders and has for its primary object to provide a device of this character adapted for conveniently mounting in position upon a supportingstructure and embodying a pair of milk bottle receiving openings adapted to engage the neck of the milk bottle together with means for locking the bottles in position in the holder.
A further object of the invention is to provide an apparatus of this character embodying an audible alarm adapted to be sounded upon the placing of a bottle in positionin the holder.
Another object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is efiicient and reliable in performance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and maintain in operative position and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.

Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates a bottle supporting plate having an upstanding rear edge 6 providing mean-s for suitably attaching the device in position upon a supporting structure, such as for instance a door jamb or side ofthe wall of a building. The front edge of the plate'5 is formed with a pair of rear'wardly extending notches ladapted to receive the neck of a milk bottle as indicated by the dotted lines at l in Figure 2 of the drawings.

At the side of the notch 1 opposite from the plates 8 and 9 is positioned a :bottle locking plate 25 fixed intermediate its ends to a pin 26 rockab ly mounted in the plate 5 and having an arcuate edge 21 adapted to embrace a side of the milk bottle opposite from the plates 8 and 9 and cooperating with said last named plate to secure the bottle in position within the notch l.
The opposite end portions of the bottle engaging plate 25 overlie the notch 1, the outer end 28 being substantially free of the notch when in bottle releasing position while the inner 29 thereof substantially overlies the notch as clearly shown at the left hand side of Figure 2 of drawmgs.
Substantially at the center of the plate 5 is positioned a pivot pin 35 upon which a catch locking member 8! is pivotally mounted intermediate its ends, the rear end of said member 3| having a notch 32 for receiving anangularly extending finger 33 formed on the free end of the latch l6. Arising from the member 3| is an upstanding lug 35 adapted for engagement by the free end portion of a leaf spring 35 which is fixedly secured to the pin 26, said pin being fixed to the bottle locking plate 25 for rotary movement in accordance with the pivotal action of said plate. A spring 35 extends from the pin 30 to the pin .26 to prevent idle movement of the locking plate 25.
The rear edge of the plate 25 is also formed with a shoulder 31 adapted for engagement with the forward end portion of the member 3! when the plate member 25 is in bottle locking position.
A cover plate 38 is secured on posts 3-9 which have threaded bores 40 in the top portion thereof for receiving screws M to secure the cover plate in position, the pivot pins IE3 and i! being freely inserted through the lower portion of said openings.
Secured to the upstanding pin 35] is .a bell 42 for engagement by a ollapper 43 secured by an arm M to a rota-ting member 45 pivoted on a pin 46 carried by the plate 5. .A lug ll is pivotally' carried by the member 45 and depends thererfrom in the path of an arm 48 projecting from the front end of the member 3|. The lug 41 is yieldably held in a downwardly extending position by a spring 39 and the member 45 is yieldably held against rotation in one direction by a spring 50. A stop 5! also extends upwardly from the plate 5 for engagement by a projection 52 carried by the member t5.
In the operation of the device the locking mechanism at one side of the plate is always in bottle locking position while the locking mechanism at the opposite side thereof is in bottle releasing position. In the present instance, and with particular reference to Figure 2 of the drawings, the locking mechanism on the right hand side of the plate is shown with a bottle locked in position therein, while the locking mechanism at the left hand side of the plate is shown ready to receive a bottle therein.
To the under side of the cover plate 38 is secured one end of a spring arm 53, the opposite end of the arm extending rearwardly in a position overlying the notch I as'show-n by the dotted lines in Figure 2 and the rear end of the arm is bent angularly downwardly for engagement behind the flange 22 of the latch releasing plate I8. Accordingly, when a bottle isinserted in the notch at the left hand side of the plate the upper edge of the bottle will engage the arm 53, releasing the same from the plate 2| and upon contact of the bottle with the plate 9 and with the rear end '29 of the plate 25, said plates will be swung into a position as shown at the right hand side of Figure 2, such movement of the plate 25 causing the spring 35 to engage the lug 34, for turning the member 3| into a position for the engagement of its rear end by the catch l6 at the right hand side of the locking mechanism when the member 3-! has been released by the contact of the bottle with the plate 2 I The pivotal movement of the plate 9 by reason of its engagement with the bot tle will likewise enable the projection IE! to enter the notch 20 to permit the pivotal movement of the catch Hi When the bottle subsequently engages the plate 2| and the plate 8 will similarly r be disengaged from the lug I5.
This movement will also release the member3l from the shoulder 31 of the flocking plate on the right hand side of the device and engage the locking plate on the left hand side to permit bottle releasing movement of the former and be tle locking movement of the latter.
When the bottle at the right hand side of the device has been removed, the plate 9 will swing inwardly toward, the notch l which, by reason of its engagement with the projection It will pivot the catch it to enable engagement of the finger 33 in the notch 32 of the member 3|.
The plate 8 is positioned for engagement by the lip of the bottle while the plate 9 is engageable by the bottle neck.
Such movement of the member 3! will likewise cause the sounding oi the alarm comprising the bell 42.
It is believed the details of construction and manner of operation of the device will be readily understood from the foregoing without further detailed explanation.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is- 1. A bottle lock-comprising an attaching plate having a pair of bottle receiving notches, duplicate locking mechanims carried by the plate adjacent the notches and arranged for opposite locking and unlocking movement and means op erable throughthe medium of a bottle inserted in one of the notches and extending circumferentially at opposite sides of the bottle for engagement by the neck as well as the lip of the bottle for releasing one of said locking mechanisms and locking the other locking mechanism.
2. A bottle lock comprising an attaching plate] locking and un'locking movement and including a swingably mounted horizontal bottle neck engaging plate adjacent each notch, a common catch locking member lockably engageable at one end with said last named plates, individual catch members for the other end of said-common catch locking member and a plurality of locking cate locking mechanisms carried by the plate adjacent the notches and ararnged for opposite locking and unlocking movement and means 0pera-ble through the medium of a bottle inserted in a horizontal direction in one of the notches for moving one locking mechanism into locking engagement with the inserted bottle and releasing the other locking mechanism, said means comprising a plurality of spring actuated circumferential bottle engaging plates pivotally mounted adjacent the respective notches and arranged for successive engagement by the bottle during horizontal inserting movement.

A bottle lock comprising an attaching plate having a pair of bottle receiving notches, duplicate locking mechanisms carried by the plate adjacent the notches and arranged for opposite locking and unlocking movement and means operable through the medium of a bottle inserted in one of the notches for moving one flocking mechanism into locking engagement with the inserted bottle and releasing the other locking mechanism, said means comprising a plurality of spring actuated bottle engaging plates pivotally mounted adjacent the respective notches and arranged for successive engagement by the bottle during inserting movement, certain of said bottle engaging plates having interlocking engagement with each other.
5. A bottle lock comprising an attaching plate having a pair of bottle receiving notches, duplicate l'ocking mechanisms carried by the plate adjacent the notches and arranged for opposite locking and unlocking movement and means operable through the medium of a bottle inserted in one of the notches for moving one locking mechanism into locking engagement with the inserted bottle and releasing the other locking mechanism, said means comprising a plurality of spring actuated bottle engaging plates pivotally mounted adjacent the respective notches and arranged for successive engagement by the bottle during inserting movement and means carried by certain of the adjacent bottle engaging plates for lockablly engaging the same.

A bottle lock comprising an attaching plate having a pair of bottle receiving notches, duplicate locking mechanisms carried by the plate adjacent the notches and arranged for opposite locking and unlocking movement and means operable through the medium of a bottle inserted in one of the notches for moving one looking mechanism into locking engagement with the inserted bottle and releasing the other locking mechanism, said means comprising a plurality of spring actuated circumferential bottle engaging plates pivotally mounted adjacent the respective notches and arranged for successive engagement by the bottle during inserting movement and means engageable with a plate of each locking mechanism for alternately retaining the mechanisms in locked position.

A bottle lock comprising an attaching plate having a pair of bottle receiving notches, a pair of duplicate locking mechanisms carried by the plate adjacent the notches and arranged for opposite locking and unlocking movement, each of said mechanisms including means operable through the medium of a bottle inserted in one of the notches for moving one locking mechanism into locking engagement with the inserted bot tle and releasing the other locking mechanism,
and said means comprising a plurality of spring actuated bottle engaging plates pivotally mounted adjacent the respective notches andarranged for successive engagement by the bottle during inserting movement and a catch member releasaloly engaged by said plates, a fbottle-actuated bottle-locking plate pivoted adjacent each notch and a pivoted catch locking member providing a locking connection between the catch member the mechanism comprising a plurality of bottle en-,

tion with respect to a notch and including a pair of vertically spaced plates engageable respectively by the neck and lip of a bottle for simultaneous actuation of the pair of plates, a bottle actuated catch releasably engaged at one end by said pair of plates and a plate locking member releasably engaged .by the other end of said catch.
9. A bottle lock comprising an attaching plate having a pair of bottle receiving notches, and
duplicate loclq'ng mechanisms carried by the plate adjacent the notches and arranged iior opposite locking and unlocking movement, each mechanism comprising a plurality of bottle engaging plates pivoted to the attaching plate with a portion movable into and out of overlying position with respect to a notch and including a pair of vertically spaced plates engageablc respectively by the neck and lip on. a bottle for simultaneous actuation of the pair of plates, a bottle actuated catch releasably engaged at one end by said pair of plates, a plate locking member releasably engaged by the other end of said catch, a catch releasing plate for each mechanism, and means carried by the last named plate of each mechanism for oppositely actuating said member into and out oi? locking engagement with the opposite releasing plate and With said catch.
10. A bottle lock comprising an attaching plate having a pair oi bottle receiving notches, and dupli cate locking mechanisms carried by the plate adjacent the notches and arranged for opposite locking and unlocking movement, each mechanism comprising a plurality of bottle engaging plates pivoted to the attaching plate with a portion movable into and out of overlying position With respect to a notch and including a pair of vertically spaced plates engagea-ble respectively by the neck and lip oi a bottle for simultaneous actuation of the pair of plates, a bottle actuated catch releasably engaged at one end by said pair of plates, a plate locking memlber releasably engaged by the other end of said catch, a catch releasing plate for each mechanism, and means carried by the last named plate of each mechanism for oppositely actuating said member into and out of locking engagement with the opposite releasing plate and With said catch, a cover for the mechanisms overlying the notches in spaced relation therefrom and a bottle actuated locking member carried by the cover and releasably engageable with the catch.
