My invention relates to fuel distributing mechanism for mechanical stokers and more particularly to the type of distributing mechanism which is made in two or more separable sections.
It is the main object of the invention to provide an improved two section distributing mechanism, and more specifically it is an object to provide such mechanism wherein the one section is constructed in the form of a pressure fluid jet head and the other section in the form of a distributing table, each of said sections having meansformed therewith permitting engagement or disengagement of the sections in a novel, convenient and simple manner.
A further object of the invention consists in so forming the engaging portions of the table section and the head section as to restrain relative lateral and longitudinal movement therebetween and permitting pivotal movement of said table section upwardly with respect to said head section to a position permitting disengagement of said sections.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description and the accompanying drawing. The invention has been described and illustrated as applied to a locomotive stoker but it will be clear that the invention is not necessarily restricted and may be applied to advantage to other forms of stokers.

Wherever the terms front and rear appear in the following description and claims, it should be understood that they are applied in the sense in which they are used on a locomotive.
In the drawing there is shown at H], a portion of the rear wall of a locomotive boiler firebox having a firing opening ll therethrough. A portion .of a stoker for delivering fuel to the firing opening I! is shown at l2 and comprises the screw l3 housed within the inclined stoker conduit M which opens endwise into the firing opening. That portion of the stoker extending rearward of the conduit M to the tender or other source of fuel supply forms no part of the present invention and may be of any suitable conventional construction and has therefore not been shown in the drawing. Any preferred construction may be employed for attaching the conduit M to the wall ill to maintain the conduit mouth portion in communication with thefiring opening II. I i
The mouth portion I5 is formed with an opening in the bottom thereof forward'of the ledge IS. A chambered casting or distributor head is provided with a flat upper surface .l'! and is detachably disposed in the open bottom of the mouth portion 5 to form in effect a floor portion for the delivery end of the conduit M. A plurality of spaced jet openings l8 extend across the upright face of the distributor head 50 in a horizontal row and communicate with one or more chambers l9 formed within the distributor head 5!).
A distributing table 58 extends forwardly from the distributor head 50 and is attached thereto in a novel manner which will be described hereinafter in detail. Steam or anyother suitable fluid under pressure is supplied to the chambers I9 through suitable openings near the lower end of the distributor head 50. Fuel advanced by the screw [3 is moved over the distributor head 50 into the zone of action of the pressure fluid blasts issuing from the jet openings l8, which blasts serve ,to project the fuel across the table 58 over the fire.
A novel, improved and simplified construction is provided for detachably supporting the distributing table 58 from the distributor head 50. The distributor head 55 is provided with hook members 5| and 52 extending forward from the forward face 53 of the distributor head 50 adjacent the upper outer marginal. edges thereof. Directly below the hooks 5i and 52 and extending forward from the front face 53 of the distributor head 5!! adjacent the lower outer marginal edges thereof are the lips 54 and 55. The lips 54 and 55 are provided with the curved surfaces 56 and 51, respectively. The table 58 is provided with the transversely extending upstanding tongues 59 and 60 adjacent the rearward and outer edges thereof. Depending from the underside of the table 58 are the bosses or lugs 5i. and fiz having curved surfaces 63 and 54 respectively, formed on the same radius as the curved surfaces 56 and 51.
In placing the table 58 in position, it is tilted at an angle and the tongues 59 and 60 are placed in the hooks 5i and 52, the forward end of the table is then lowered permitting the curved surfaces of the lugs 5i and 62 to slide upon the curved surfaces of the lips 56 and 55. The angularity that the table 58 must assume before it can be engaged or disengaged from the distributor head 50 is determined by the contacting surfaces of the lips 54, and lugs 6!, 62 or the length of the lips 54, 55. The sides of the upper ends of the tongues 59 and 50 are beveled as at 55 and 65 to permit the upper ends of the tongues 59 and 60 to turn in the hooks 5| and 52 when the table is removed from or placed in position. Lugs 5i! and 68 depend from the underside of the table 58 and when the table is in position the lugs 67] and 58 fit closely adjacent the inner ends, of the lips 54 and 55, preventing lateral movement of the table.
From the foregoing it will be understood that the rear section of the distributing mechanism need not be made in the form of a chamber-ed distributor head but may constitute the rear section of a two-section distributor plate over which fuel may be propelled by pressure fluid blasts discharged from a point rearward thereof or in any other operative position.

'I claim:
1. In a stoker, a distributing device arranged to permit fuel to pass thereover for distribution over a fire comprising separable rear and front sections, ledge-like means formed with said rear section and extending forward of its front face, said ledge-like means forming a support for said front section, said front section being provided adjacent its rearward side with upstanding laterally spaced tongues, said rear section being provided with means engaging said tongues for preventing upward displacement of the rearward side of said front section, lugs depending from the under side of said front section engaging said ledge-like means, said ledge-like means andsaid lugs having contacting surfaces formed to per mit upward swinging movement of said front section about its rearward side, said front section being disengageable from said rear section upon disengagement of said lugs and ledge-like means.
2. In a fuel distributing device, a distributor head having a front face, said front face being provided between its upper and lower edges with a plurality of jet openings, ledge-like means formed with said distributor head and extending forward of its front face below the level of said jet openings, hook members formed with said distributor head and extending forward of its front face above the level of said jet openings, and a distributing table, lugs depending from the under side of said distributor table engaging said ledgelike means, said ledge-like means and said lugs having contacting surfaces formed to permit upward swinging movement of said distributing table about its rearward side, said distributing table being provided adjacent its rearward side with upwardly extending tongues engageable by said hook members, engagement of said tongues by said hook members preventing upward displacement of the rearward side of said table with respect to said head.
3. In a fuel distributing device, a distributor head having a front face, said front face being provided between its upper and lower edges with a. plurality of jet openings, ledge-like means formed with said distributor head and extending forward of its front face below the level of said jet openings, hook members formed with said distributor head and extending forward of its front displacement of said distributing table with respect to said distributor head.

In a fuel distributing device, a distributor head having a front face provided between its upper and lower edges with a plurality of jet openings and a distributing table having a surface across which fuel passes for distribution, said table having upstanding tongues on said surface adjacent the rearward outer marginal edges thereof, said head having hook members extending forward of said front face adjacent the upper outer marginal edges thereof engaging said tongues for preventing upward displacement of the rearward side of said table with respect to said head, said head having a ledge-beneath each h of said hook members extending forward of said front face adjacent the lower outer marginal edges thereof, each of said ledges having a concave upper surface, and said table having lugs depending from the underside thereof adjacent the rearward outer marginal edges thereof, said lugs. being seated on said ledges and having a convex bottom surface.
5. As an article of manufacture, a distributor head for a stoker having a front face, jet openings in said front face, hook members extending forward of said front face adjacent the upper outer marginal edges thereof, a'ledge beneath each of said hook members extending forward of said front face adjacent the lower outer marginal edges thereof, each of said ledges having a curved surface.
6. As'an article of manufacture, a distributing table for a stoker having a surface across which fuel passes for. distribution, tongues formed on and extending upwardly above the level of the surface of said table adjacent the rearward outer marginal edges thereof, and lug like means formed on and depending from the underside of said table adjacent the rearward edge of said table, said lug like means being formed at the free end thereof with a convexly curved surface, no part of said tongues and lug like means extending rearwardly beyond the rear side of said table.
7. As an article of manufacture, a distributor head for a stoker having a front face, jet openings in said front face, hook members extending forward of said front face adjacent the upper outer marginal edges thereof, ledge like means extending forward of said front face below the level of said jet openings, said ledge like means having a curved top surface.
