The two spring clips 8, 9 shown in Figure 4 may be constructionally modified. For example, the
clip part 32 (Figure 10) may be of rigid material and have a curved portion 33 completely receiving the pin H, a flat leaf spring 34 bearin against the said curved portion.
It will be noted from the above explanation that there is thus provided in, a typewriter having a frame, a carriage on said frame, type mechanism, ink ribbon spools for said mechanism, and at protecting hood for said mechanism and said spools, a part of said carriage being movable over said hood, the combination of hinge means to connect said hood. with said frame on one side of said frame, connectable means for said frame and said hood on the opposite sideof said frame, and arresting means adapted for engagement with a movable part of said connectable means, and means under control of said carriage for placing said connectable means under restraint by said arresting means only when said part of said carriage is positioned above said hood.
What I claim is:
1. In a typewriter having the type mechanism and the inking spools covered by a protecting hood, pairs of spring tongues arranged adjacent the platen upon the frame of the machine, pivot members secured to the hood and adapted to detachably and rotatably enter between the spring tongues, a sliding bolt connection between the front side of said hood and the front side of themachine frame, a member disposed within the path of the carriage of the typewriter, and a connection from said member to a locking element arranged adjacent the said sliding bolt and adapted to impede the action of the same when said member and carriage co-act with one another.
2. In a typewriter having the type mechanism and the inking ribbon spools covered by a protecting hood, spring clip connections adjacent the platen between the rear side of said hood and the adjacent part of the machine frame, a sliding bolt connection at the front side of said hood between the latter and the adjacent part of the machine frame,-a member pivoted at one end and having its other end arranged to lie in the path of the carriage of the typewriter, a mechanical connection between the free end of said member and a locking element, and a cam edge connected with the slidable bolt of said sliding bolt connection; whereby displacement of said pivoted member by co-action with the carriage results in movement of the locking element to an engaged position with the cam edge to prevent movement of the sliding bolt.
3. In a typewriter having the type mechanism and the inking ribbon spools covered by a protecting hood, spring clip connections between the hood and frame along the side of the hood adjacent the platen, a sliding bolt connection between the hood and frame at the front side thereof, a pivoted member having its free end arranged to, lie in the path of the typewriter carriage, a bar connected to said free end and extending in front of a cam edge secured to the bolt of said sliding bolt connection, said bar being shaped so that when the pivoted member co-acts with the carriage the portion of the bar in front of said cam edge lifts to a position where the latter is locked against movement.
4. In a typewriter having a frame, a carriage on said frame, type mechanism, ink ribbon spools for said mechanism, and a protecting hood for said mechanism and said spools, a part of said carriage being-movable over said hood, the combination of hinge means to swingably and clampingly connect said hood with said frame on the rear side of said frame, connectable means for said frame and said hood on the front side of said frame and said hood, and locking means adapted to engage said connectable means, said locking means being controllable by said carriage, said connectable means being releasable from said locking means when said part of said carriage is removed from above said hood.
5. In a typewriter having a frame, a carriage on said frame, type mechanism, ink ribbon spools for said mechanism, and a protecting hood for said mechanism and said spools, a part of said carriage being movable over said hood, the combination of hinge means to connect'said hood with said frame on one side of said frame, connectable means for said frame and said hood on the opposite side of said frame, and arresting means adapted for engagement with a movable part of said connectable means, and means under control of said carriage for placing connectable means under restraint by said arresting means only when said part of said carriage is positioned above said hood.
6. In a typewriter having a frame, a carriage on said frame, type mechanism, ink ribbon spools for said mechanism, and a protecting hood for said mechanism and said spools, the combination of hinge means at the rear of said hood and said frame, movable connectable means for said frame and said hood mounted at the front of said frame, said hinge means and said connectable means detachably retaining said hood on said frame, and-means controllable by carriage position and engageable with said' connectable means for impeding movement of said connectable means at predetermined positions of said carriage.
7. In a typewriter having a frame, a carriage on said frame, type mechanism, ink ribbon spools for said mechanism, and a protecting hood for said mechanism and said spools shiftable to expose ribbon spools and type mechanism; first means adjacent said carriage connecting said hood to said frame, second means releasably connecting said hood to said frame at the opposite end of said hood, and means controllable by carriage position and engageable with said second connecting means for arresting releasing action of said second connecting means when said carriage is in a position to obstruct the shifting of said hood.
8. In a. typewriter, a frame, a carriage on said frame, a platenv mounted on said carriage, type mechanism and ink ribbon spools in front of said platen and covered by a protective hood; a hinge connection between said hood and said frame adjacent said platen, a sliding bolt con nection between the front side of said hood and the front side of said frame, a member disposed within the path of said carriage and arranged to be shifted thereby, an element secured to a sliding part of said bolt connection, and means connected to said member and extending to said element and shiftable to a position to impede'the action of said s'lidable part when said member A and carriage coact with one another.
