3 Claims.
The invention relates to a new and improved register designed primarily for registering the number of five gallon cans of gasoline, kerosene or the like discharged from any faucet of a tank truck, the construction being such that each time the faucet-operating wrench is turned to open th-e faucet, a register wheel will be advanced one step.
A further object is to provide the invention in the form of a novel attachment readily applicable to the discharge line near the faucet thereof, and readily adjustable for proper coaction with the faucet-operating wrench.
A still further object is to provide a construction which will be simple and inexpensive, yet efficient and durable.
With the foregoing in view, the invention resides in the novel subject matter hereinafter described and claimed, description being accomplished by reference to the accompanying drawlng.
Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the invention applied.
Figure 2 is a vertical transverse sectional view on line 2 2 of Fig. l.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the bracket and its attaching clamp.
A preferred construction has been illustrated and will be specifically described, with the understanding, however, that within the scope of the invention as claimed, variations may be made.
I provide a vertically elongated bracket 5 having a semi-circular clamp member 6 formed integrally with its upper end to engage one side of a discharge line 'I extending to the usual faucet 8, the Valve of this faucet being shown at 9 for future reference. Another semi-circular clamp member I is cooperable with the member 6 to snugly embrace the line 1, said clamp members having lugs Il on their ends which are secured together by bolts or the like I2. The bracket is provided with a vertically elongated slot I3 for a purpose to appear.
A stub shaft I4 is provided with a reduced end I5 to pass through the slot I3, whereby a nut I6 threaded on said reduced end will clamp said stub shaft in place and will permit vertical adjustment thereof along said slot. A register wheel I'I is rotatably mounted upon the stub shaft I4 and is preferably provided with radially disposed laterally projecting flanges I8 bearing indicating legends such as 5 gal., 10 gal., etc. (see Fig. 2 in which the legend "20 gal. is shown). Cooperable with these legends is a xed pointer I9 which is secured upon the outer end of the stub shaft I4 by means of clamping nuts or the like 20.
The Wheel II is provided with a plurality of ratchet teeth 2| for coaction with a spring-pressed pawl 22 which I mount upon the operating wrench 23 which is applicable to the faucet valve 9 for opening and closing the same. Each time the wrench is pushed downwardly to open the valve and fill a can, the pawl 22 advances the register Wheel Il one step.
A dog 24 is provided for coaction with the ratchet teeth 2| to hold the wheel I'I against retrograde turning. This dog may be springpressed or gravity moved to operative position and it is mounted upon a block 25 which. block is mounted for vertical adjustment by means of a bolt 26 passing' through the slot I3.
The pawl 22 is so mounted on the wrench 23 that it cannot swing outwardly beyond a predetermined position from said wrench even though the Wrench be disengaged from the valve 9, as customary, the same wrench being usable on any of a plurality of the faucets. By applying the wrench to the faucet valve first, when initially installing the attachment, the parts may be readily adjusted for proper operation. Obviously, the clamp 6, I 0 may be adjusted horizontally upon the line 7 and the wheel Il may be adjusted vertically upon the bracket 5, thereby bringing said wheel into proper cooperative relation with the pawl 22. The parts may then be tightly set in these positions to which they have been adjusted. Then, the dog 24 may be adjusted along the slot I3 until it properly coacts with the wheel I'I.
Excellent results are obtainable from the details disclosed and they are preferably followed, but within the scope of the invention as claimed, variations may be made. Obviously, the invention is a very convenient device as it enables anyone to glance at the register wheel during any dispensing operation and see how many five gallon cans of gasoline or the like have been discharged. By lifting the pawl 24, the wheel may be reset if desired after each dispensing operation.
I claim:
1. A register for a discharge line having a wrench-operated faucet, comprising a bracket having an attaching clamp for engagement with a horizontal portion of said line to allow adjustment of said bracket horizontally toward and from the faucet, a register wheel and means mounting the same upon said bracket for vertical adjustment, whereby said register wheel may be adjusted vertically with respect to the faucet, said register wheel being provided with ratchet teeth, a wrench for engagement with the faucet valve to operate the same, a pawl mounted on said wrench for cooperation With said ratchet teeth to turn said register Wheel one step each time said Wrench is operated to open the faucet, and a dog mounted for vertical adjustment on said bracket and cooperable With said ratchet teeth to hold said register Wheel against retrograderotation.
2. A register attachment for a horizontal pipe extending to a faucet, said attachment comprising a faucet-operating Wrench having a paWL-a register Wheel having teeth for cooperation with said pawl, a bracket carrying said register wheel, clamp means for securingu said bracket on the pipe after adjustment horizontallythereon, and means mounting said register Wheel on said bracket for Vertical adjustment thereon, whereby said register Wheel may be adjusted horizontally With respect to said pawl by adjusting said bracket along the pipe and may be vertically adjusted with respect to said pawl by vertical adjustment of the Wheel upon said bracket.
3. A register attachment for a horizontal pipe extending to a faucet, said attachment comprising a vertically elongated bracket having clamp means to engage the pipe after adjustment of said bracket toward or from the faucet, said bracket being provided with a vertically elongated slot, a stub shaft extending through said slot for Vertical adjustment along the same, a toothed register Wheel mounted on said stub shaft, a wrench for-operating the faucet, said Wrench having a paWl for cooperation with the teeth of said register Wheel, a dog cooperable with said teeth, and supporting means for said dog having a portion passing through and adjustable vertically along said slot.
