The object of the invention is to provide a detachable handle of simple and inexpensive construction capable of being readily attached to a beer bottle or drinking glass and by means of which a bottle or glass or a number of said bottles or glasses may be conveniently carried from place to place when. vending and serving liquid refreshments. Y

A further object of the invention is to provide a detachable handle or holder comprising a longitudinally split cylindrical body portion adapted to receive and yieldably grip a liquid container, said body portion being reversible and provided with a smooth continuous exterior surface for advertising matter which latter is so arranged thereon that regardless of the position of the body or the holder the advertising matter will be legible to a person drinking the contents of the container.

A further objectis to provide the upper and lower ends of the resilient body portion with spring clips which assist in preventing accidental displacement of .the bottle and to provide the carrying handle with spaced lugs disposed adjacent the opposite ends of the body portion and constituting cap removers.

A still further object of the invention is generally to improve this class of devices so as to increase their utility, durability and efficiency.

The improved device forming the subject-matter of the present invention comprises a cylindrical body portion 5 preferably stamped from a blank being rolled into cylindrical form with its adjacent longitudinal edges overlapped, as indicated at 1, so as to permit the body portion to expand and contractfto accommodate bottles or drinking glasses of difierent sizes; The body portion 5 is reversible and the exterior walls thereof continuous to provide a smooth surface for suitable advertising matter. By reference to Figure 3 of the drawing, it will be noted that the ad'vertising matter, indicated at 8, is printed or otherwise represented on the blank 6 inreverse form so that regardless of which-end of the body portion is uppermost the advertising 10, matter thereon will be readily legible to a person drinking the liquid contents of the bottle or glass. Extending laterally from one side of the body portion 5, preferably at a point diametrically opposite the overlapped portion 1, is a carrying handle 9 having its inner ends bent to form vertically disposed attaching lugs I0 which rest v against said body portion and are rigidly secured thereto by rivets or similar fastening devices H. The metal constituting the carrying handle 9 at the upper and lower ends of said handle is cut to form slots I2 and the metal at said slots punched or pressed outwardly to provide lateral lugs I3 formed with terminal lips I4, said lips being disposed adjacent the upper and lower ends of the body portion and constituting cap removers. In order to assist in preventing accidental displacement of the bottle when positioned within the holder, there are provided a plurality of spring clips l5 each consisting of a strip of metal having one end thereof rive-tr IE to the body portion 5 and its other end bent inwardly over the adjacent edge of said body portion to form a spring finger I! adapted to irictionally engage the adjacent surface of a bottle or glass supported within the holdrr. It will be noted that the spring clips are arranged at both the top and bottom of the holder so that irrespective of the position of the holder the 7 spring fingers I! of the lowermost clips will ex- 40 tend beneath and support the bottle l8 and the spring fingers of the uppermost clips will bear against and frictionally engage the adjacent walls of the bottle to assist in holding it to its seat. 45

In using the device, the bottle I8 which may contain beer, gingerale or other beverage is inserted in the top of the body portion by exerting a slight expansible movement to the overlapped edges 1 of the body portion and said bottle 50 forced downwardly within the body portion until the bottom of the bottle rests on the adjacent fingers. H and in which position the contraction of the split portion of the body 5 and the spring action of the clips at the upper end of the body portion will firmly hold the bottle in position so that a person may drink from the bottle in the same manner he would from an ordinary drinking glass. Several bottles equipped with the holder may be conveniently carried from place to place by merely gripping the handles 9, as will be readily understood. It will be noted that the cap removers M are disposed adjacent the opposite ends of the body portion 5 and in convenient position to permit a person to decap a bottle without regard to the position of the holder 5 on a table or other support. 1

In Figure 4 of the drawing, there is illustrated a modified form of the invention in which the upper and lower sets of spring clips are dispensed with and the bottle cap removers l8 are welded or riveted to the handle l9 instead of being'upstruck therefrom, as previously described.

It will, of course, be understood that the devices may be made in difierent sizes and shapes and constructed of any'suitabIemateriaI without departing from the spirit of theinvention.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is: v

1.;A device of the class described comprising a longitudinally split cylindrical body adapted to receive and yieldably grip a liquid container, spring clips secured to the exterior walls of the body at the top and bottom thereof and provided with terminal fingers extending inwardly over the adjacent edges of the body, and a carrying handle secured to said body.

2. A device of the class described comprising a reversible open-ended body portion formed of a single blank of spring metal rolled into cylin- 5 drical form with its adjacent longitudinal edges overlapped and disconnected to permit free expansion and contraction of said body portion, spring clips secured to the exterior walls of the body portion at the upper and lower ends thereof, said clips being provided with inwardly extending fingers normally projecting within said body portion, and a carrying handle secured to the body portion at one side thereof.

A device of the class described comprising a 15 longitudinally split cylindrical body portion, said body portion being reversible and adapted to receive and yieldably grip a liquid container, upper and lower sets of spring clips secured to the exterior walls of the body portion and provided with inwardly extending spring fingers, the lower set of spring fingers being adapted to bear against the bottom of the container and the upper set of spring fingers being adapted to yieldably engage the adjacent walls of said container.
