2 Claims.
This invention relates to shoes.
It is an object o! the invention to provide a improved heel construction.
Other objects and advantages of the invention 5 will appear hereinafter.
A preferred embodiment of the invention selected for purposes of illustration is shown in the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a shoe embody- 10 ing my invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of a heel wedge.
Figure 3 is a central longitudinal cross-sectional view of the same.
Referring to the drawing, the shoe comprises- 5 ing a relatively flat portion 6 supporting the heel of the wearer, and a. downwardly tapering portion (extending forwardly under the arch of the root. Y
The outer wall or face of said wedge is grooved so or concaved as illustrated at I toprovide upper and lower horizontal flanges I and ID. This grooved shape has several advantages. First,
it is attractive in appearance, since it gives the impression of lightness and the curved shape is 5 in itself pleasing. Second, it the wedge is made or rubber, as is preferable. the grooving oi the outerwalladdstotheresilience orspringiness of the heel. Third, the flanges 9 and i0 provide means by which the welt and outsole, respectively, may be stitched to the wedge. In some 'forms of shoes or sandals it may be sufilcient to secure these parts together merely by cementing them together, but where stitching is desired the said flanges are additionally useful for this purpose.
Pretera'bly thewedge is also provided with a recess II which reduces the weight of the wedge 10 and at the same time increases its springiness.
It will be understood that the invention may be variously modified and embodied within the scope of the subjoined claims. 1
I claim as my invention: 15
1. A shoe comprising a welt extending throughout the length of the shoe from toe to heel, an outsole also extending throughout. the length of the shoe from toe to heel, and a molded rubber heel wedge interposed between said welt and out- Q sole, said wedge having a deeply grooved outer wall provided with upper and lower horizontal flanges for attachment to said welt and outsole, respectively.
2. A shoe comprising a welt extending through- 1| out the length of the shoe, from toe to heel, an
outsole also extending throughout the length of the shoe from toe to heel, a molded rubber heel wedge interposed between said welt andoutsole, said wedge having a deeply grooved outer wall so provided with upper and lower horizontal flanges for attachment to said welt and outsole, respectively, a'line of stitching securing said upper flange to said welt,- and a line of stitching securins said lower flange to said outsole. as
