Application August 6,1938, Serial No. 223,520
1 Claim.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in supports particularly for clotheslines and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth,
a device of this character embodying a novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts through the medium of which sagging in the lower line of a pulley clothesline when weighted with clothes may be greatly reduced.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a clothesline support of the aforementioned character which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, highly eilicient and reliable in use, compact, light in weight, and
which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure l is a view in side elevation of my invention.
Figure 2 is a view in side elevation, showing the invention applied to a clothesline.
Figure 3 is a front elevational view of the invention.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the reference numeral 5 designates generally'a length of wire rod bent to form a lower V-shaped portion A having arms 6 and I. The arm I is of a length substantially greater than the arm 6 and has projecting therefrom and integral therewith an open loop portion B which terminates at its free end in a downwardly projecting leg portion 8. The arm 5 of the V-shaped portion A terminates in spaced relation to and substantially opposite the leg portion 8 of the open loop portion B, and is provided with a segmental ridge or projection 8; n
A knurled sleeve I8 is slidably mounted on the leg 8 and is of such length as to bridge the gap betweenv the arm B and leg 8 when its lower end portion abuts the projection 9 on the arm 8, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing.
between the arm 6 and the leg 8 while the sleeve I I8 is slid up the leg 8 to disclose the gap be- 10 tween the leg 8 and arm 6. The sleeve I8 is then permitted to slide down the leg 8 by the force of gravity and come to rest on the projection 9 thereby bridging the gap between the leg 8 and arm 6 and lock the lines within the 5 open loop portion B and V-shaped portion A.
Although I have shown and described herein a preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be definitely understood that I do not desire to limit the application of the invention thereto, and any change or changes may be made in the materials and in the structure and arrangement of the parts, within the spirit of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is: 25
Means for connecting together upper and lower reaches of an endless clothesline comprising a member formed of a rod having one end portion bent into V-shape to form a wedge-shaped base for tightly receiving a part of the lower reach of the line, an intermediate part of the rod forming an extension of one limb of the V-shaped part with another portion bent into a substantially circular loop with its ends spaced apart, one end of the loop being connected with the extension and the other end of the loop connected with the oppositeend'portion of the rod which is inlongitudinal alignment with the short limb.- of the V-shaped part but spaced therefrom to form an entrance opening for the space formed by the device, a sleeve loosely fitting around said 40 end part connected with the loop and adapted to move downwardly by gravity to close the opening and to fit over a portion of said short limb and a projection on said short limb for limiting downward movement of the sleeve.
