JUNIOR BOWLING GAME I Filed May 24, 1939 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Bruno Sekrearyii INVENTOR I BY ma@ ATTORNEYS Patented July 9, 1940 UNrrsn rArss Application May 24,
2 Claims.
The invention relates to a game apparatus and more especially to a home miniature bowling apparatus and pin setter.
The primary object of the invention is the 5 provision of an an apparatus of this character wherein a bowling game can be had within the home and the' pins for the playing of the game can be readily and conveniently set or spotted, while the spent or played balls of a bowling game will be returned to players.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an apparatus of this character wherein the same is readily portable so that it may be set up within a home and a bowling game played in conformity with the rules and regulations for the playing of a regular or standard game and the pins can be set or spotted mechanically, thereby relieving an attendant of the hand setting or spotting of the pins.
A further object of the invention is the provision of an apparatus of this character which is simple in its construction, thoroughly reliable and eilcient in operation, affording entertainment, being a miniature of a standard or regular bowling game set up and `is inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement oi parts as will be hereinafter more fully described in detail, illus trated in the accompanying drawings, which disclose the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the apparatus constructed in accordance with the invention and set up for use.
Figure 2. is a top plan View.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional view taken 1939, Serial No. 275,536
ediilce of a standard or regular bowling game set up and comprises a body frame I0 having the build of a bowling alley II open at one end and closed at the other. At this closed end is a pit I2. While the alley II is of elongated contour there is following opposite longer side edges thereof gutters I3, these opening into the pit I2 so that when a bowling ball I 4 is irregularly thrown or played in the alley II the said ball will travel into either of the gutters I3 to be caught in the pit I2 for the retrieving thereof when playing a bowling game.
The alley Il outermost of the gutters I3 is formed with the side walls I5, these joined with an end wall I6 at the closed end of said alley and built with one of these side walls I5 is a ball return chute Il for the return of the spent or played balls it to the players when stationed at the open end of said alley. Associated with the chute Il next to the open end of the alley II is a post I8 carrying a chalk pocket i9 for the chalking of the hands of the players when effecting a bowling game.
The frame i0 has associated therewith foldable supporting legs 20, these when in supporting position are rigidly held through the use of break pivot joint braces 2l allowing the folding of the legs when the apparatus is not in use.
The alley II next to the pit I2 has a pin spot ting or setting area 22 corresponding to that of a standard or regular bowling alley, being on a miniature scale and at this area is spotted or set the bowling pins 23 for the playing of a bowling game.
Arranged at the area 22 of the alley il is a pin setter comprising av horizontally disposed perforated pin setting rack 2li its perforations 25 being adapted to accommodate the pins 23 for the placement thereof perpendicularly in spotted or set up condition at the area 22. This rack is rigidly supported by hanger arms 2% formed with and depending from an inverted substantially U-shaped raising and lowering yoke 2l' bridging thevalley with the side limbs 28 thereof outside of the side walls I5. These limbs 28 slidably t I5 in a position in the path of said terminal 32 and at an elevation to enable the rack 24 to be held in an elevated position with respect to the pins 23,when spotted or set in the alley at the area 22 thereof and thus eliminate any interference in the playing of a bowling game in the use of the apparatus. The terminal 32 can be readily operated from the keeper 33 by pressing downwardly on the yoke 21 and thus lowering the rack 24 to a position for the spotting or setting of the pins 23, this position being in superimposed contacting relation to the alley I l at the area 22.
The miniature apparatus before described enables homegplaying of a bowling game andy the latter is played in conformity with a standard or regular game of this type. By the use of the pin setter a player or players can be designated for the setting of the pins at the area 22, this being carried forth with dispatch and'accuracy in such use.
It is'of course understood that the alley ll is marked with a foul line 34 to be observed by the players for regulatory purposes.
While the yoke 21 has been illustrated as supf' ported in elevated position by the latch bar 3i and the keeper 33 I do not intend to limit myself to this precise construction shown, the only limitation being that afforded within the scope of the appended claims. In the construction shown it should be observed that the limbs 28 of the yoke 21 are surliciently elevated when the rack l 24 is lowered to provide clearance with the bottom of the frame I0, thus enabling the game to be operated when the legs 20 are folded beneath the table and the frame rests on the floor. What is claimed is:
` 1. Apparatus of the kind described comprising a bowling alley structure, supports for said structure, a pin setting rack vertically movable within the bounds of said alley structure, a yoke carry' ing said rack, guides having the yoke tted therewith, means for holding said yoke in elevated position above the alley, and means coacting with the yoke and the said rack to maintain the said yoke in a lowered position elevated from a floor line on the contact of the rack with the alley.
2. An apparatus of the kind described comprising a bowling alley structure having foldable supports, a pin setting rack movable within the bounds of said alley structure and including an inverted substantially U-shaped frame, vertical guides outside of the bounds of said alley structure and having side portions of said frame slidably fitted therein, yoke formed with the frame and depending within the bounds of said alley structure and constituting a suspension for the said rack from said frame, a latching extension carried downwardly from the upper portion of said frame outside of the bounds of said alley structure and having a latching terminal, and a spring keeper fixed without the bounds of said alley structure in the path of said latchingterf minal for the engagement of. the latter therewith to hold the rack in an elevated position above the said alley.
