This invention relates :to paper hangers boards I and to improvements `in means for mounting a straight-edge thereon.

Objects of the invention are to provide a board having a straight-edge hinged thereto for swinging movement* to and from an operative position thereon; to provide strong,l1durable, quickly adjustable means for hingedly securing a straightedge in an accurate position on a board; `to provide a straight-ledge mounting which can `be swung beneath the'board leaving an unobstructed working space, and which is provided with convenently` adjustable meansffor `accurately setting the straight-edge in two cutting positions whereby the same may be selectively moved to trim either side of the paper. I

The invention will now be described with ref--` erence to the illustrative embodiment thereof shown in the drawing. The numeral 5 denotes `a paper hangers board which may be of any `suitable construction which is provided along the forward edge thereof with a flat stop 6. The stop 6 is provided with an inwardly presented straight edge against which one edge of a strip of l paper may be positioned to properly position the strip on a board.

With the shank IIa in a vertical position the rod Il] projects over the board 5 at a right angle 15 to the inwardly presented edge of the stop 6. YIt will be seen that the portion Illa of the rod Ill can `be operated in the hollow shank IIa to position the rod IIJ the proper distance above the board 5 and that theiadiustable regulated to lit boards 5 of different thicknesses. The numeral I3 denotes a straight-edge which may be of any suitable construction and which is `provided adjacent each end thereof with a bore I4 in which is received whereby the straight edge on the rods I0.

i Thenumeral I5 denotes cylindrical stops, each of which is provided with an axial bore in which is `received the rod I0. Each of thestops I5 is 30 provided with a radial, threaded bore in which is operatively mounted a thumb screw I6. Two of the stops are mounted on each rod I0 with av ystop I5 positioned on each side of the straightedge I4, and the stop I5 can be adjustably posi- 35 tioned on the rod I0 and set by operating the screw I6 to limit the movement of the straightedge I3 thereon.

As shown in Figure 3 the wallpaper Il is ordinarily provided with a relatively wide margin I8 along one side thereof and with an edge portion I9 along the other side thereof. In butting I3 is slidably mounted `wallpaper, both the margin portion I8 and the edge portion I9 must be trimmed to properly match the paper before the same is applied to a wall.

In use, the rod Ill may be swung downwardly on the hinge 'I to the dotted line position shown in Figure` 2. 'I'he paper I1 is placed` on the board with the edge I9 thereof stop 6. The straight-edge I3 is then swung on the rods I0 to the position shown in Figures 1 and 2 and the straight-edge I3 positioned along the edge I9 thereof. The stops I5 are then adjusted to engage the straight-edge I3 and limit 55 shank can be 20 one of the rods I0 25 positioned against the the movement thereof toward the forwardly presented edge of the board. The straight-edge is then moved on the rods I0 to place it on the paper II to the proper position for cutting the marginal edge I8 and the stop I5 -on the free knife or other cutting means in removing the marginal portion I8.

The rods I8 with the straight edge I3 may be swung to an inoperative position as shown by the dotted lines in Figure 2 and the board 5l may be used to cut wall paper in desired lengths or to apply adhesive to the paper in the ordinary manner and the rods I0 may be then swung upwardly and the straight-edge I3 used as a trimming guide for either edge I8 or I9.

While I have shown a particular form of straight-edge I3,- it is understood that anyy suitable straight-edge may be employed and while I have illustrated a straight-edge intended to be used with a fiat knife, it will be understood that a disk knife may be used or sliding cutting devices of various forms may be mounted on the straight-edge and used as herein set forth.

While I have shown a rod II) adjustably connected` to the shank IIa, it Will be understood that the downturned end portion Illa of the rod I8 may be secured directly to the knuckle Il.

Having thus illustrated'my invention and described the same in detail, what I claim as newand desire tosecure by Letters Patent is:

l. In a device of the character described, a board, a strip onl the upper face of the board extending along the forward edgethereof with the inwardly directed edge ofthe stripdisposed ink a vertical plane, spaced inwardly fromsaid forward edge; arms hinged to said board for swinging movement in vertical planes disposed at a right angle to the forward edge of the board, said arms movable to a-horizontal position over the board; a straight-edge slidably mounted on said arms for movement longitudinally thereof and .stops on each arm on each side of said straight edge; said' stops permitting al limited movement of said straight edge towardV and` from said strip. i g 2. In a device of the character described, a board, a strip on the upper face thereof extending along ther extreme forwardl portion of said upper face withthe inwardly directed edge of y the strip spaced inwardly from the forward-edge of the board; parallel arms hingedtovsaidyboard ited movement of said straight edge toward and from the forward edge of the board.

3. 6. In a` straight-.edge mounting for a paper hangers board, an arm, a hinge on one end thereof for securing the same to a board for movement to aposition=over.the board, said arm designed to .have a straight edge slidably mounted thereon; stops` adjustably secured to said arm for restricting the straight edge to a limited movementA longitudinally thereon.
