8 Claims. (01. 211-4) This invention relates to decanter holding devices, and has for its object to provide an improved device which looks the decanters in position but permits their removal by very simple un- 5 locking means.

The decanters with their locking case present an appearance agreeable to the eye, and When the decanters are held in position no one who is not familiar with the method of operation of the device can use the decanters for the purpose of pouring a drink therefrom.

The general object of the invention is, on the one hand, to present an agreeable appearance in a device for holding decanters, and at the same 15 time hold them under locked condition when such is desired. For this purpose the invention consists of a base plate with an enclosing frame, said base plate with the width of one decanter and the length of either one or a plurality of decanters, and to the base plate frame is pivoted a holding member which embraces the tops of the decanters, or the bottle stoppers thereof, and which is held in locked position by a concealed locking device operative to unlock the same 25 by a shifting movement of one of the decanters.

For this purpose, the invention will be more fully described hereinafter, and embodiments thereof will be shown in the drawing and the invention will be finally pointed out in the claims.

Referring to the drawing, and more particularly to Figure 1, the decanters therein shown by dotted lines are indicated by the characters I and II. Each of these decanters is somewhat wider in width than in length and they are placed upon a base plate I2 having a surrounding frame I3 of relatively small height. The other end of the bar I4 is provided with a narrowed portion 2| which passes through a slot 22 of the inner wall of the frame I3 and then engages a rod 23 at a part of the same between two fixed members .24 and 25, saidymembers 24 and 25 being fixed to the rod 23. A reasonable amount of play is permitted between these fixed

members

24 and 25. At the other end of the rod 23 there is fixed thereto a member]?! against which a helical spring 28 rests, the other end of the spring 23 acting upon a small plate 29 on the rod 23. Substantially at right angles tothe rod 23 and disposed also between the parallel walls of the frame I3 is a pivoted plate 30 which extends below or above, as the case may be, the movable member 29. to a small shaft which passes through the exterior Wall of the frame I3 and is in turn secured to the enclosing member I5, a button member, or the like, I6 being fixed to the outerend of this shaft for decorative purposes. The pivoted member 30 moving the shaft, in turn moves the enclosing member I5.

The operation of this mechanism is as follows When one of the decanters, for instance I0, is

moved in the direction of the arrow I9, the pivoted rod I4 is moved in the same direction. In consequence, the rod 23 is moved towards the right of Figure 3 so as to be free of the plate 30.

This plate 30 is secured The spring 33 then presses the plate 30 downwardly and the downward movement of the plate 39 moves a shaft 34 and, in consequence of this, the enclosed frame l5 and thereby unlocks the decanters so that anyone can then remove either one or the other of the decanters H] or H.

A false dummy lock 35 is provided upon the upper face of one side of the frame l3 so as to mislead the ordinary person and to induce one to endeavor to manipulate this false look only to find that no effect has been produced. In consequence of this concealed lock within the parallel walls forming the frame I3, the average person who is not initiated into the method of operation as described will find difficulty in unlocking the enclosing member l5. 1 a

After the decanters have been used they are ually moved to its initial full line position as placed again upon the base plate I2 within the frame 13, and the enclosing member I5 is manually moved to its initial full line position as shown in Figure 2 from the dotted line position there shown, and in consequence the plate 30 snaps above the plate 29 and is held inlocked position until the plate 29 is again moved by the operation of the rod hi, the plate 2.! always having a tendency to place itself into a locked position due to the action of the spring 28, whereas the spring 33 serves to force the plate 30 downwardly to unlock the enclosing member IS. The transposition of the plate 29 under the lever 36- prevents the unlocking until the plate 29 is moved out of its locking position.

It will be noted that a very ingenious decanter holding device has been described and that the invention consists in providing a concealed loch within the walls of the frame operative by the movement of one of the decanters whereby the enclosing locking member i5 is moved into its unlocked position to enable the decanters to be freely moved. a

I have described the embodiment of my invention but it is clear that changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined in the following claims.

Other means for locking may be substituted for the means shown, as for instance, an outside lock manipulated by hand.

The invention may be applied to other articles than decanters, as for instance, perfume bottles, chemicals, poisons, etc., and the descriptive word decanter is intended to be inclusive of all such and other uses.

What is claimed is:

1. A decanter holding device provided With a base and a U-shaped frame pivoted to a base frame, a cross bar in the base frame adapted to separate two decanters from each other, a pivot means for holding one end of the cross bar to the base frame, and means in the base frame actuated by the free end of the cross bar, for latching the U-shaped frame over the decanters in position on the base frame and for unlatching the pivoted U-shaped frame upon the movement of the cross bar, actuated by one of the decanters.

2. A decanter holding device comprising a base frame, a U-shaped bail pivotally secured to said base, latching means carried by said base and said bail for holding said bail in upright position, and latch releasing means carried by said base and adjacent the decanter resting on the base, whereby shifting of the decanter in one direction upon the base will actuate said latch releasing means.

3. A decanter holding device comprising a base frame, a U-shaped bail pivotally secured to said base, latching means carried by said base and said bail for, holding said bail in upright position, and a member movably carried by said base and engageable with said latching means to release said latching means and adapted to be actuated by shifting of the decanter.

4. A decanter holding device comprising a base frame, a U-shaped bail pivotally secured to said base, latching means carried by said base and said bail for holding said bail in upright position, and a releasing bar movably carried by said base for releasing said latching means.

5. A decanter holding device comprising a base frame, a U-shaped bail pivotally secured to said base, latching means carried by said base, means connected to said bail engageable with said latching means to hold said bail in upright position, and a releasing member carried by said base and engageable with an article disposed upon the base whereby shifting of the article upon the base will move said member to released position.

6. A decanter holding device comprising a base frame, a U-shaped bail pivotally secured to said base, latching means carried by said base, means connected to said bail engageable with said latching means to hold said bail in upright position, and a releasing member carried by said base and engageable with said latching means to move said latching means to released position, said releasing member projecting inwardly from an edge of said base in a manner to contact with a decanter resting upon the base whereby shifting of the decanter in one direction upon the base will move said releasing member to released position.

'7. A decanter holding device comprising a base frame, a member movably mounted on said base frame and adapted when in its operative position to engage the stopper of said decanter to hold the decanter in upright position on the base frame, latching means carried by and concealed by said base frame for holding said member in its operative position, and latch releasing means carried by said base and adjacent to the decanter, whereby shifting of the decanter will actuate said latch releasing means.

8. A decanter holding device comprising means for supporting a decanter, means for engaging the stopper of said decanter when in closed position, and latching means actuated by shifting the decanter for disengaging the stopper engaging means.
