9 Claims.

The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in casting baits and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a device of this character embodying a novel construction and arrangement whereby different types, patterns, colors of body, etc, may be conveniently used by the fisherman without the necessity of removing the spoon and hooks from the line.

Other objects of the invention are to provide a casting bait of the aforementioned character which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong,'durable, attractive. in appearance and which may be manufactured at low cost.

All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become ap-- parent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding the several views, and wherein:

Referring now to the drawings in detail, and to Figures 1 to 8, inclusive, thereof in particular, it will be seen that the reference numeral l designates generally what may be referred to as the frame to be connected to the line 2. The frame I is formed from suitable wire and comprises a rod 3 of appropriate longitudinalshape a bottom plan view of the plug or parts throughout which terminates, at one end, in an eye 4 to which the line 2 is connected. At its other or rear end, the rod l is provided with a loop or eye 5 which terminates ina forwarding projecting finger 6. At a forward intermediate point 5 the rod 3 is formed to provide a depending coil or loop I. Gang hooks 8 are loosely connected to the loops or eyes 5 and I.

Rigidly secured on the forward portion of the rod 3 is a spoon 9. A longitudinal groove or chan- 10 nel I2 is pressed in a portion of the spoon 9 for the reception of the rod 3. The spoon 9 is soldered to the rod 3, as at H. As best seen in Figure 8 of the drawings. the rear portion of the spoon 9 has formed therein a slot l2 through 15 which the loop 1 projects. Notches or recesses it are provided in the side edges of the spoon 9, the purpose of which will be set forth.

The reference numeral i4 designates a plug or body which is adapted to be removably mounted on the frame I. Toward this end, the body It has formed longitudinally in its lower portion a groove or channel it which accommodates the rod 3. The lower portion of the body M is further provided with a recess or depression i'i which "ii receives the solder H. In its rear end, the body it is provided with a longitudinal hushed or lined socket it in which the finger ii is engageable. The recesses or notches it in the spoon 9 accommodate securing screws M which are threadedly mounted in the body it and which are provided with off center heads 2i] which are engageable with said spoon for firmly'clamping same to said body. It will be observed that the heads 20 are grooved to accommodate a screw driver or other suitable tool.

It is thought that the manner in which the device is used will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. To remove the body it from the frame 5 the screws it are given 40 a half turn from the position shown in Figures 2 and 5 of the drawings, thus freeing the spoon 9 from said body. The frame i is then moved rearwardly relative to the body it in a manner to disengage the finger 6 from the socket i8. Of course, to mount the body M on the frame i the foregoing operation is substantially reversed. It will thus be seen that difierent bodies may be expeditiously mounted on the frame i while said frame is connected to the line 2.

In Figures 9, 10 and 11 of the drawings, the reference numeral 2i designates generally a hair type bait or body which may be mounted on the frame I in lieu of the body Id. The body 2! is formed principally from suitable wire and in- 55 cludes a shaft 22 having mounted on its rear end portion a float 23. At its rear end, the shaft 22 terminates in a longitudinally extending coil '24 for the reception of the finger 8 of the frame I.

At its forward end, the shaft 22 is bent upon itself in a manner to form a loop 25 in which the bound end of a hair tuft 26 is secured. At one end of the loop 25 the wire is bent in a manner to provide a laterally projecting eye 21. From the eye 21 the wire forming the body 2| extends transversely beneath the loop 25 and terminates in an eye 28. This transversely extending portion of the wire is designated by the reference numeral 29. The

21 and 28 are filled with solder or other suitable material which is drilled and tapped for threadedly receiving the screws It. This is shown to advantage in Fig. 11 of the drawings.

The manner of using the form of the invention shown in Figures 9, 10 and 11 of the drawings, is

substantially similar to that described for the embodiment shown in Figures 1 to 8, inclusive. That is, the screws l9 are given a half turn for detachment of the spoon 9 and for permitting the finger 6 to he slipped out of the coil 24. The float 23 lends buoyance to the rear or tail portion of the bait thereby giving it a more lifelike action.

Referring now to Figures 12 and 13 of the drawings, it will be observed that the reference numeral 30 designates a body in the form of a spoon which is adapted to be mounted on the frame I. Toward this end, the body or spoon 30 has pressed upwardly in its lower portion a longitudinal groove or channel 3! for the reception. of the rod 3. The spoon 30 is further provided with a recess or depression 32 which accommodates the solder H. Threaded holes 33 into which the screws l9 are threaded are provided for securing the spoon or body 30 to the spoon 9. tail portion of the spoon or body 30 is formed to provide an eye or socket 34 for the reception of the finger 8.

To mount the spoon or body 30 on the frame I the finger 6 is slipped into the eye or socket 34 in an obvious manner. The screws l9 are then threaded home in the openings 33 for firmly securing the spoon or body 30 to the spoon 9.

For convenience, each type of bait or body, as at H, 2| and 30, is preferably provided with a pair of the screws l9 which may be left therein. The portions I8, 24 and 34 of the three embodiments may be considered eyes in which the finger 8 of the frame I is engageable.

It is believed that the many advantages of a casting bait constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood and although preferred embodiments of the device are as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that further modifications and changes in the details of construction may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.

What is claimed is:

1. A casting bait comprising a frame adapted to be removably mounted on a body, said frame including a rod, an eye on one end of said rod for connection with a line, a loop on the other end of the rod, a forwardly projecting finger on the loop engageable in the body for detachably securing said other end of .the rod thereto. a spoon fixed on the rod at an intermediate, point, said spoon having a slot therein, a loop at an intermediate point on the rod extending through the slot, and hooks mounted in the-first and second named loops.

2. A casting bait comprising an elongated body,

The rear or an eye on one end of said body, an elongated frame adapted to be detachably secured beneath the body, said frame including a rod, an eye on one end of said rod for connection with a line, a loop on the other end of the rod, a finger on said loop engageable in the first named eye for detachably connecting said other end of the rod to the body, hooks mounted in the loop, a spoon fixed on the forward portion of the rod, and means for detachably securing the spoon to the body.

3. A casting bait comprising an elongated body,

an eye on one end of said body, a frame adapted to be removably secured beneath the body, said frame including a resilient wire rod, an eye on one end of the rod for connection with a line. a loop on the other end of the rod, a finger on said loop engageable in the eyefor detachably securing said other end of the rod to said body, a spoon fixed on a forward portion of the rod, said spoon having a channel therein accommodating the rod, said spoon further having a slot therein, a loop at an intermediate point in the rod extending through the slot, hooks mounted in the first and second named loops, and means for detachably securing the spoon to the body.

4. A casting bait comprising an elongated body having a longitudinal groove therein, an eye on the rear end of said body, a frame adapted to be removably mounted on the body, said frame including a rod engageable in the groove, a loop on the rear end of the rod, a forwardly projecting finger on said loop engageable in the eye, hooks mounted in the loop, an eye on the forward end of the rod for connection with a line. a spoon fixed on the rod, and means detachably securing said spoon to the body.

5. A casting bait comprising an elongated body having a longitudinal groove in its lower portion, an eye in the rear end portion of said body, a frame adapted to be removably mounted on the body and including a rod engageable in the groove, a loop at an intermediate point in said rod, a spoon fixed on the rod and having a slot therein, said loop extending through the slot, a loop on the rear end of the rod, hooks mounted in the first and second named loops, a forwardly projecting finger on the second named loop engageable in the eye for detachably securing the rear end-of the rod to the body, means for detachably securing the spoon to the body, and an eye on the forward end of the rod for connection with a line.

6. A casting bait comprising an elongated body having a longitudinal groove in its lower portion, an eye in the rear end portion of said body, a frame adapted to be removably mounted on the body and including a rod engageable in the groove, 2. loop at an intermediate point in said rod, a spoon fixed on the rod and having a slot therein, said loop extending through the slot, a loop on the rear end of the rod, hooks mounted in the first and second named loops, a forwardly projecting finger onthe second named loopenbody, a spoon mounted on the rod andhaving a slot therein accommodating the first named loop, said spoon further having marginal notches therein, and screws threadedlymounted in the body and engaged in the notches, said screws including off center heads engageable with the spoon for detachably securing said spoon to the body.

8. A casting bait comprising a substantially spoon shaped metallic body having a longitudinal groove therein, an eye on the rear end of the body, a frame adapted to be removably mounted on the body and including a rod engageable in the groove, a forwardly projecting finger on the rear end of the rod engageable in the eye for detachably securing said rear end of the rod to the body, an eye on the forward end of the rod for connection with a line, a spoon on the rod, and means for detachably securing said spoon to the body.

9. A casting bait comprising a frame including a rod for connection with a line, a finger projecting forwardly from the rear end of the rod, a spoon mounted on the forward portion of the rod, and a body adapted to be removably mounted on the frame, said body including a shaft, a coil" on one end of said shaft constituting an eye for the reception of a finger, a loopon the other end of the shaft, a hair tuft mounted in said loop, a pair of eyes on the loop, and means for detachably securing the spoon to the last named eye.
