ICE CREEPER Filed Dec. 23, 1938 in ven idr ,eriffiecfeZ,
A iiorneys Patented May 28, 1940 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,202,570 ICE CREEPER Carl Clifford Beckel, Glemmons, N. 0. Application December 23, 1938, Serial No. 247,525
3 Claims.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in ice creepers and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a device of this character em- 5 bodying a novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts through the medium of which the device may be readily attached to a shoe or removed therefrom.
Other objects of the invention are to provide an ice creeper of the aforementioned character which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, highly efficient and reliable in use, compact, light in weight and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of my invention.
Figure 2 is a bottom plan view of the invention.
Figure 3 is a side tion, and
Figure 4 is a vertical transverse sectional view taken substantially on the line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Referring now to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the reference numeral 5 designates generally a substantially fiat metal plate having one end portion thereof tapered as at 6 while the opposite end 1 thereof is substantially at'right angles to the side edges 8 and 9. A substantially U-shaped shoe sole engaging finger It! extends from the side edge 8 of the plate 5 and is integral therewith. oppositely disposed ears II are stamped from the plate 5 to form a guideway for the reception of a substantially U-shaped slid- 40 ing shoe sole engaging finger l2 which is opposed to the shoe sole engaging finger l0.
The sliding U- haped finger I2 is held in position by a tension spring l3 which is secured at one end thereof to the sliding finger l2 through the medium of a hook 14 while the other end of the spring. I3 is engaged on a projection l5 extending from the plate 5. An operating handle 16 is bent and extends from the sliding finger l2.
A disk-like metal plate I! is bolted or otherwise 50 secured as at l8 to the plate 5 at the tapered end portion thereof, and has extending downwardly and substantially at right angles therefrom a series of tapered teeth like projections l9.
when in use the device is fastened to a shoe elevational view of the inventhrough the medium of the U-shaped fingers l and I2 which are held in clamping position by the tension spring l3, with the edge 'I abutting the breast of the shoe heel, and the disk I'I positioned beneath the sole of the shoe.
Although I have shown and described herein a preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be definitely understood that I do not desire to limit the application of the invention thereto, and any change or changes may be made in the materials and in the structure and arrangement of the parts, within the spirit of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is:
1. A device of the character described comprising a plate-like member, an integral U-shaped jaw extending from one side edge portion of said plate-like member, a second sliding U-shaped jaw positioned opposite said integral U-shaped jaw, meansfor sliding said second U-shaped jaw towards said integral U-shaped jaw to clamp the plate and U-shaped jaws to a shoe sole, and a disk-like pronged element secured at its center to said plate.
2. A device of the character described, comprising a plate-like member, an integral U- shaped jaw, extending from one side edge portion of said plate-like member, tongues punched from said plate-like member to form a guideway for a sliding U-shaped jaw, means for yieldably holding the jaws in closed position to clamp the plate-like member to a shoe sole, a substantially disk-like member secured at its center to said plate, and spurs integral with and extending from the periphery of said disk-like member substantially at right angles thereto.
3. A device of the character described comprising a plate-like member, anintegral U- shaped jaw extending from one side edge portion of said plate-like member, spaced tongues 40 punched from said plate-like member in spaced relation to one side edge thereof to form a guideway for a sliding U-shaped jaw, a coil spring secured at one end portion to said plate-like member and at its other end portion to said U-shaped sliding jaw for normally holding said jaws in clamping position on a shoe sole, a substantially disk-like member secured at its center to one end portion of said plate-like member, and spurs integral with and extending downwardly from the periphery of said disk-like member for antislipping contact with a supporting surface.
