My invention relates to dispensing containers, and particularly to dispensing refrigerating con-. tainers of that type having horizontally disposed sliding panel or closure members.
It is one of the objects of my invention to provide a. sliding top closure wherein the cover members or tops, when in closed .position, will effectually seal the top to prevent theingress of warm air and at the same time provide means whereby when one of the tops is slid to open position, it will not displace the other top either-in its movement in open position or its movement back to I closed position.

In the structure illustrated, 8. preferably rectangular top I is provided. This top has an inturned flange 2 on all four sides thereof which extends inwardly from the outer edge, and on which is adapted to rest the sliding closure members 2 andl4."-;"Intermediate of the ends of the top, there is provided a cross bar 5, in effect di viding the opening in the top into two sections or providing two delivery openings. Each of the sliding tops 3 and 4 is formed of sheet metal and has'a top wall 6 and a bottom wall I between which and the sides thereof, is disposed suitable insulating material 8. The top wall 6 is extended and is flanged over an outwardly extending flange 9 of the side walls III to provide a lip or flange II on all four sides of the cover. This lip or flange is adapted to rest on the inner edge of the inturned fl nge 2 and at the point where the sliding cove is adjacent the cross bar 5 is adapted to rest on the cross bar. It will thus be observed that each of the cover members 3 and 4, when in closed position, contacts with the edge of an opening in the container at all points, thus effectually sealing the opening.
On each side of the flange 2, I provide a rectangular channel l2 which is formed in the rim member and provides a guideway in a manner more fully hereinafter described. At each end 0! this channel, I provide wells ltwliich are preferably formed by cutting slots in the bottom wall of the guideway, and closing these "slots by preformed well members l4 provided attheir upper edges with flanges ll adapted to be spotwelded to the under face of the inturned flange. Theside' walls of these-wells facing the center point of the container are crammed as at It. A second set of wells ll and It, similar to the wells it, are provided on either side of the cross bar 5. Each of the cover members, on its side edges, is-provided with a pair of cam members is and having inclined front edges 2|. cam members are preferably formed of sheet metal, having an inturned'lip 22 engaging under the top 6 of the cover member, and each of the cam members is provided with a backset shoulder 22. Arranged on. each side of the cover members is a pair of top blocks 24 and 25, the blocks 24 lying nearer the cross bar 5, and these blocks 24 provide a support for a cover member when it is slid back on the top of the other cover'member. In operation, assuming that it is desired to slide back the cover member 4, the operator grasps 'the'handle 26 of this cover member and by pushing the cover member to the left, will cause the cam members 19 and 20 of this cover member to ride up the cam walls It of the wells l3, thereby raising the cover. member to a position above the top of the adjacent cover member 3. The cam members l9 will travel in the guide channels 12 and during that period that the cam member 20 is riding over the well II, the shoulder 23 on the cover member I will at this time provide a bottom portion on which the cam member 20 will ride. The cover member is slid to the left until it is brought to a stop by the handle 21 on the cover member 3, at which time it will be in its fully open position. In its fully open position, the right-hand end, looking at Figs. 1 and 2, will rest on the blocks 24, thus preventing the cam members I! from dropping into wells It so that the cover member may be easily moved back to closed position. As the cover member 4 is moved to closed position, it will be noted that it rides over the top of the closed cover member 3 so that there will be no tendency to pull the closed cover member 3' in open position, particularly as the cam members on the cover member 3 are resting in the wells and will, therefore, offer a certain amount of resistance to the sliding movement of the cover member. By the time the cover member has reached its closed position, the cam members thereon will have dropped into their respective wells and the cover member will be in its closed position.
I claim as my invention:
H 1. A container, having a plurality of dispensing openings .therein, a sliding closure vmember for each of said openings, having a portion engaging edges of said openings on all sides and normally lying in the same plane, recessed track portions disposed on either side of said. closure members and extending the combined length 01 said closure members and having cammed wells formed therein, and downwardly extending projections on the cover members operating in said track recesses cooperating with the cammed wells for raising one closure above the other and extending into said cammed wells when the cover members are in closed position.
2. A container, having a plurality of dispensing openings therein, a sliding clwure member for each of said openings, having a portion engaging the edges of said openings on all sides, all normally lying in the same horizontal plane, recessed track portions disposed on each side of said closure membersand extending substantially the combined length of said closure members, each of said closure members being adapted to slide over the top of the next adjacent closure member when moved to open position, cammed wells in said track recesses adjacent the leading edges of the closure members, downwardly extending projections on the closure members adjacent the leading edges and riding in said track recesses andcooperating with said cammed wells to raise oneclosure above the other, and means for preventing the projections of one closure member from dropping into the cammed .wells of the adjacent closure member when said firstmentioned closure member is moved to open position.
3. A top for a container, comprising asubstantially rectangular frame providing an opening, a
cross web extending between the sides of said frame and lying in substantially the same plane as the inner edges of said frame, said frame having formed in each side member, a recessed track portion, a plurality of sliding closure members supported by said frame having portions contacting the side and end walls of each of the openings, well openings in the bottoms of said track recesses, and downwardly extending cam members on said closure members riding in said track recesses cooperating with said wells to raise one closure above the other and projecting into said openings when the closure members are in closed position.

A container having a plurality of dispensing openings therein, a sliding closure member for each of said openings, having a portion engaging the edges of said openings on all sides, said closure members all lying in the same plane, recessed track portions disposed on either side of said closure members and extending substantially the combined length of said closure members, cam portions at the leading edges of the 'closure members, and stationarily mounted cam portions arranged adjacent the leading edges of said closure members, said portions cooperating to raise the leading edge of one closure member above the closure member next adjacent the downwardly extending projections at the following edges of said closure members, and cammed wells in said track portions adjacent the following edges of said closure members to receive said projections.

A container having an opening in the top thereof, a pair of horizontally slidable covers in end to end relation for closing said opening, said covers lying in thesame plane when closed, a pair of tracks disposed on each side of said opening arranged substantially in the same vertical plane, a hump shaped cam member disposed between each pair of tracks, means on the leading edges of said covers cooperating with said cam members to raise the leading edge of one .oover above the other as it is slid toward the other, the rear ends of each pair of tracks having wells formed therein provided with an upwardly and forwardly inclined bottom, downwardly extending projections on the trailing end of each cover normally projecting into said wells and adapted to cooperate with the upwardly inclined bottoms thereof tfo' 1 -"ais e the trailing end of the cover with 'the front end of the cover as one cover is slid toward Ithe'othen;
6. A closure structure having a main frame having an opening, two sliding covers for said opening lying in the same plane when closed, tracks. disposed in said frame on either side of each of-said covers, a bump shaped cam member.
