LIGHT CASING Jesse D. Langdon, La Canada, Calif. Application November 26, 1935, Serial No. 51,652
2 Claims. (01. 240-71) My invention relates to improvements in elecs medium t rubber to form the y O a trio light casing particularly to be used in conea i nection with an electric light bulb, socket and The structure shown has additional advantages wiring. making it possible for the light beam as at A 5 The primary object in myinvention is to conto be adjusted beyond the fiat face of strap 2 5 struct a flexible light casing, adapted to exand b l because of the d pt the ss clude water and dust. from the interior of said in the socket and lens e g, i Which a metal casing and the electric connections therein. Socket 4 is ihsel'tedsocket a ou d W Another object in my invention is to provide 8 connected t w s ground Wire 8 o- 10 convenient means in combination with a lens gether with e Wire 7 o p s C t eO 10 bezel and recess whereby a lens inserted into Pletihg Connections, t e W insulating said recess may be insert d r removed from washer 5 and metal center therein contacting said recess. the metal portion of bulb l2.
Another object of my i ti is t provide a Ground wire packing tit l0 and live wire flexible light casing with a lens retaining bezel necking t t H are t t p d t a at r 16 of minimum thickness, capable of maximum tenedge and are ifi iently long to provide a a nst sion, to hug the flange of a light lens to exclude kinking of wires 7 and 8 external t0 the light water or dust from entering said light casing casing, @150 Sealing against t ress f Water between said lens and said b or dust, due to the passages for said wires being 139 Astill further object in my invention is to promelded of smaller diameter, t us exe tin a 20 vide wire passages for circuit connections and tension around Said Wires 7 and means in conjunction ith i passages t Seal The globe of lens [3 is flanged and inserted the same around said wir against t ingress in the recess underneath the flatface rubber of dust or water into s id casing bezel I4, which is molded level with the face of A still further object in my invention is to light Casing as at 2 and to provide clearance provide a one piece, flexiblelight casing having for the body of the lens 3 b yo d the ace of therein a space to allow for movement of an electhe casing as at and Still have a m x um tric' light bulb contact wherein circuit connecpressure st e W ll f h l ns l3 above tions may be laterally flexed. the flangeof said lens [3.
:;o Other and further objects will appear as the A further advantage of the flat face of the so descriptive matter proceeds, as set forth by the body. as at 2 and the bezel a form P following specification, viding a straight parting line for a production These objects are attained bythe use of the mold, Said parting e e in l ne with the structure and mechanism illustrated in the 'acface of the casing- This m at s t e companying drawing, whi h are used for t necessity for a recess in both sides of the mold,
purpose of illustration onl and d t confine facilitating the loading of the mold and the with the invention to the exact structure shown, whichv drawing of i'Ihe finished Product from e e dmay be changed within the scope of the claims. s Construction serves to produce a a Fig. 1 is a longitudinal ti of t flexible mum tension around globe or lens I3 above the u; light casing. 1 flange thereof, because the entire proximal por- 40 Fig. 2 is a plan view from the lens side. hen Of bezel l4 a n t lens i3 is backe y h Fig. 3 is a longitudinal ide elevati howing full section of the structure along a plane as of the flexible light casing flexed for insertion and 2 and If the bezel Were raised ey removal of the lens or electric b lo the level of the face of strap as at 2 there would Fig. l is a, detail of metal bracket be an increased flexibility, as bezel l4 would be 45 Similar parts in the drawing are referred to a bead Surrounding Said e s 3, which would by similar numerals throughout, tend to obstruct the lateral diffusion of light The flexible light vcasing assembly comprises irom beam center A as bezel l4 would necespreferably ametal bracket l molded into the body eerily have to be heavier in der to exert the a of flexible material of said light casing, or said same tension as that provided by the structure bracket i may be molded of the same material shown.
as the casing. A strap portion 2 is integral with A silver reflecting surface is provided at I! to socket and lens casing portion 3 forming a proincrease the intensity of beam A. tuberance at one side of said casing, preferably The recess in socket and lens casing 3 is of made of one piece of deformable substance such Sufficient length to allow for the adjustment of the metal light bulb socket 4 to and fro to increase or decrease clearance of beam A beyond the face of light casing as at the plane of 2 and M.
The lens E3 or bulb I2 may be conveniently inserted or removed as illustrated by Fig. 3. The strap portion is of suflicient length to provide a leverage to flex the bezel I4 away from lens 53, thereby enabling said lens l3 to be slid and lifted in and out of casing and bulb l2 may thus be conveniently removed or replaced.
The bracket as of Fig. 4 is provided with a hole lB-A to permit the molding of the lug I6 therethrough in order to anchor bracket I in the rubber material of the light casing.
A tension lug i8 is extended inside the end of the recess, socket and lens casing 3, to provide tension means to take the place or supplement spring 6 against insulating washer and contact 5. Having described my invention I therefore claim-1 1. A light casing comprising a resilient body formed with a flat front face and having a lens recess in said flat face, a bracket projecting from said flat faceand integral with said body, the rear of said body having a rearwardly extending protuberance thereon integral With the body, a
socket cavity in said protuberance opening in the front of said body and with the rear of said socket cavity located within the protuberance, the fiat face surrounding said lens recess being formed to provide'a bezel for retaining a lens in said lens recess, said bezel being adapted to be retracted from one side of a lens inserted in said lens recess by flexing said casing body with respect to'said bracket within the elastic limits of the material of the casing.
2. An electric lamp comprising a resilient light casing having a fiat face at one side, an oppositely disposed face having a protuberance thereon, a lens recess disposed below the level of said flat face, the rim of said recess forming a bezel level with said fiat face, said casing having a cavity in alignment with said lens recess and extending into said protuberance, a lens held in place in said recess by said bezel, a socket in said cavity, an electric light bulb in said socket, circuit completing connections in said socket and including electrical contact elements, and a resilient tension lug within said cavity and integral with said light casing, and pressing at least one of the contact elements toward the light bulb.
