Claims. (01. mt -214 This invention relates to cover mechanism, and more particularly to means by which a sideequipped cover may be supported upon a frame, such as a. range or stove frame, connecting mechanismv being employed for preventing the cover from moving rearwardly in the raising operation. For the purpose of illustration the invention is described in connection with a stove frame, al-
though it will be understood that the cover may ;.beused with other frames.
An object of the invention is to provide cover supporting and connecting means whereby. the
vide. a cover for a stove-or range whereby the side-equipped cover is permitted to extend to the rear side of. the stove frame, while at the ,-same :time the cover is prevented from extending farther rearwardly during the raising and lowering of the cover; Other specific objects and advantageswill appear as the specification proceeds.
bodlment by the accompanying drawings, in which- I Figure 1 is a perspective view of a stove equipped with a cover embodying my invention, 35 the cover being supported in raised position; Fig. 2, an enlarged broken plan view of the structure shown in Fig. 1; Fig. 3, a transverse sectional view, the section being taken as indicated at line I 3 of Fig. 2; Fig. 4, a sectional detail View, the 40 section being taken as indicated at line 4 of Fig. 2; Fig. 5, a transverse sectional View, the section being taken as indicated at line 5 of Fig. v2; and Fig. 6, a perspective view of the guide bracket carried by the stove top.
In the illustration given, A designates a stove top, and B designates the side-equipped cover.
The stove top A may be of any suitable type or construction. ,It is provided at its rear side with the usual extension supporting pipe I0. 50 Along each side of the top and near the rear thereof are bracket depressions ll formed in the casting at' the top. These depressions. are adapted to receive the bottom plate l2 of each of the guide brackets 13. Each plate I 2 fits snug- 55 ly within the recess ll and is bolted to the top The invention is illustrated in a preferred em- A by the bolts 14, as shown more clearly in Fig.
5, the'top of the plate I2 being flush with the top surface of the stove top A. I v
The guide bracket member. l3'extends vertical ly and at right angles to the-plate l2 with which it is integrally formed. An upwardly extending portion of the guide bracket [3 is provided with a guide slot I 5 which extends upwardly and rearwardly with respect to the top A of the stove,"
At its forward end, each bracket [3 is provided with a roller stop or roller socket l6. 1
The side-equipped cover B maybe of any suit-- I able form or construction. In the illustration given, it comprises a top cover member I! and side members 'SrThG top member I! and the side members l8 may be secured together by any suitable means. In theillust'ration given, the top member I! is provided at its front and rear sides with depending integral posts I9. The sides l8 are provided with inwardly extending flanges 20. Bolts zl pass through the flanges and engage the internally threaded posts i9to lock the parts together. 7
, The-top members I! ofthe cover support near each side thereof depending guide pins 22 which engage the guide slots l5: of the brackets i3. shownmore clearly in Figs. 2 and. 3, the pin 22 is'formed integrally with a depending arm 23,
and the arm 23 is formed integrally with a flange 24 which extends'at right angles-to arm 23. The
inner edge of flange 24:.abuts a guide-rib 25: formed with the top H. The flange 24 is secured rear the top member I1 is provided with an integral downwardly extending side 3!, the central portion of the side 3| being inwardly bowed slightly so as to provide a recess for the chimney l0.
' Operation In the operation of the cover, assuming that it is in raised position, as illustrated more clearly in Figs. 1, 2 and 4, the roller 29 extends under the roller stop l6, while the traveling guide pin 22 extends through the lower portion of the guide slot I 5." As the cover is lowered, the guide pin 22 rises within vertical slot l5, while at the same 30; tension.
time each of the rollers I 9 moves rearwardly. In this operation, the pivot is formed by the upwardly moving pin 22 within slot I 5 and about this pivot the lower roller-equipped ends of the sides l8 move. While the rollers move all the way from the front position shown in Fig. 4 to a position at the extreme rear of the cover, the pins 22 move only a slight distance to the rear of the vertical, as outlined by the shape of slot l5. When the cover is again raised the rollers 23 advance forwardly along plates l2 to the position shown more clearly in Fig. 4, while simultaneously the pivot pins 22 move downwardly along the slot l5.
With the construction illustrated it will be clear that while the top cover member H rises during the lowering movement of the cover so as to permit the sides l8 to clear the stove top A, the cover member I? swings about a traveling pivot which operates in a slot almost vertical. Thus there is substantially no rearward movement of the cover B as it swings to lowered position or to raised position.
The construction is extremely simple the same time enabling the cover to extend. to the'rear of the range frame. I-Iere movement of the cover is accomplished without causing the cover to move rearwardly into contact with the stove pipe carried by the pipe supporting ex- While in the illustration I have shown a specific and detailed structure for accomplishing the results described, it will be obvious that such structure may be readily modified by those skilled, f
;in the art without departing from the spirit of my invention. a
,The foregoing detailed description has been given for clearnessof understanding only, and no unnecessary limitations should be understood 4o therefrom, but the appended claims-should-be et when the cover is in raised position, locking ;said cover against rearward and vertical movement, said cover being also provided with guide while at pins engaging said slots, said pins being adapted to move downwardly when said cover is raised.
2. In combination with a frame equipped with a pair of upwardly extending andspaced brackets, each bracket being provided with a vertically extending guide slot-and with ahorizontally extending roller socket, and a side-equipped cover provided with a roller adapted to be received within said socket when the cover is in raised position, said cover being also provided with depending guide pins engaging said slotand cover with said roller for preventing rearward movement of said cover when the same is raised and lowered. 3. In combination with aframe equipped with i an upright bracket having a rearwardly inclined slot therein, a cover having depending sides equipped at the rear lower portions with antifriction members horizontally movable on said frame beneath said slot, and a guide pin supported by said cover and depending therefrom for engagement with said slot.
4. In a stove provided with a pipe at the rear: thereof, a side-equipped cover for said stove, 1' a bracket carried by said stove at each rear side thereof, each bracket being provided with aver-- tically and a rearwardly extending slot and at its.
forward side with a roller socket, and said sides.
of said cover having rear portions provided with: rollers adapted to engage said roller sockets when the cover is in raised position, said cover.- being provided also with depending guide pins engaging said slots.
5. In combination with a frame equipped with a pair of upwardly extending spaced brackets. provided with base members sunk in said frame and becoming a part of the upper surface thereof, each bracket also being provided with a vertically and rearwardly extending guide slot and a substantially horizontal roller socket, a cover having depending sides, said sides being equipped at the rear lower portions thereof with rollers engaging said frame, said rollers being .horizon-' tally movable along said frame beneath said slotsand adapted to be received within and beneath the upper wall of said socketswhen said cover is raised, said cover being also provided with guide pins for engagement with said slot, said pins being moved upwardly therein when said cover is lowered.
