4 Claims.
'I'he present invention relates to hosewind'ers or reels especially, but lnot exclusively, adapted for use in re stations or houses with re hose which isI adapted to coil`flatwise rather than in 5 cylindrical form. Frequently upon return from a fire the wet hose is in a coil. It is uncoiled and hung up to dry. When dry the hose is recoiled for storage and someof it is uncoiled and loaded onto a truck for future use. Fire hose is of different diameters and is in the form of suitable lengths provided at their ends with coupling elements or couplings.
'I'he principal object of the present invention is to save time andlabor in effecting the operations above lreferred to andto providev a simple,
comparatively inexpensive and easily operated reel or winder for that purpose.
Other objects' of the invention will appear from the following description at the end of 855 a handcrank having a shank adapted at its end to.r detachably engage the keyway or socket in order to rotate 4the table, a clamp nger having its shank adjustably mounted on the stem of the hand crank for upward anddownward move- 80 ment and adapted to overlie and engage the coupling at the end of a length of hose, and a pair of aligned guide rolls of which one is horizontal and the other is inclined in respect to the rst and which are arranged in proximity `with the rim of the table and which are adapted to turn flattened hose into vertical position as it is-coiled on the table.
'I'he invention also comprises the improvements to be presently described and nally claimed.
In the following description reference will be vFigure 21is a top or plan View of the same; and i Figure 3 is an end view of the guide rolls and their mounting.
Referring. to the drawing I indicates a circular turntable mounted from underneath for rotation about a substantially vertical axis.y The lmount-- ing is shown to comprise a pedestal member 2 and a carrying member 3 attached to the under side 0f the table I and as'shown there is a bally (c1. 24a-'sci 4bearing 4 and a holddown 5 between these members On top of the table there is a centrally disposed Socketcor keyway 6. 'I- is a hand crank having a shank 8 shown as square in cross sec-k tionfand the shank is adapted at its end to del tachably engage the keyway or socket 5 in order to rotate the table. 9 and III indicate a pair of oppositely disposed clamping ngers adapted.` to cooperate'respectively with fire hose couplings of different diameters. common shank I I slidably adjustably and reversibly `mounted on the stem 8 of the hand-crank.y I2 and I3 vvare a pair of aligned guide rolls of which one (I2)v is' horizontal and the other (I3) is inclinedin respect to the rst and they are l5 arranged in proximityy with the rim of the table and are adapted to turn the fire hose into vertical position as it is coiled on the table'. I4 is a cruciform base provided with an upright frame I5 on which the guide rolls are turnably mounted. 20
' The pedestal member 2 is also mounted on the base I4. The base I4 and parts carried thereby is portable and is capable of being slid into any required position,
To wind a hose it is led over the guide rolls 35 and the coupling at its end is engaged by one or the other of the clamping fingers 9 and IIJ for e I2 and I3 over which the hose passes ensure this result.' To unwind a coiled hose the crank 'I is removed, the coil placed upon the table and its end drawn away from the table or, if desired, the 40 crank lmay be present during the operation.
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art to which the invention relates that modifications may be made in details of construction and arrangement without departing from the spirit of 4:5v
the invention which is not limited vin respect to `such matters or in respect to` matters of mere 4form or otherwise than the yprior art and the appended claims may require.
I claim: 1. A hose windeicomprising the combination vof a turntable mounted from underneath for' rotation about a substantiallyvertical axis, and
. provided on top with a centrally disposed socket,
a hand crank having a shank adapted at its end 55 These :lingers have a 104 to detachably engage the socket, a clamp nger having a shank adjustably mounted onthe stem of the hand crank for up and down movement and said clamp finger adapted to oVerlie and engage the coupling at the end of a length of hose, and a pair of aligned guide rolls of which one is horizontal and the other is inclined in respect to the rst, and which are arranged in proximity with the rim of the table and are adapted to turn and flatten the hose into Vertical position as it is coiled on the table. 4f
2. The combination substantially as described in claim 1 and in which there is provided a cruci` form base provided With an upright frame and on which base and frame the table and guide rolls are respectively mounted.
3. The combination substantially as described in claim 1 and in which there ,is a secondclamptially flat top tablerotatable about alsubstan-v tially vertical axis, means for turning the table,
a clamp for clamping the coupling at'theend of l 10 a length of fire hose and rotatable with the table and a pair of guide rolls adjacent the rim of the table and of which one is horizontal and the yother inclined and Which are constructed and arranged to turn the hose edgewise into upright.
position as it is spirallywound on the flat top of the table. HARRY G. NEALE.
