An important object of the invention is to provide a device of this character for administering tests, playing games and at the same time maintaining a record of all responses and giving a visible record of all correct responses, to the end that the person using the device will be immediately informed as to its success or failure.

Another object of the invention is to provide a permanent record sheet which maybe readily used as a permanent record of the answers given by the individual, or personssubjected to the test or examination.

With the foregoing and other objects in View,

which will appear as the description proceeds,-

the invention resides in the combination and ar-' rangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein described, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from thespirit of the invention. Referring to the drawings:

Figure 1 is a plan view of a device constructed in accordance with the invention.

Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1. Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 2. Figure 4 is a fragmental sectional view illustrating the stylus used as a part of the device, as obstructed in its passage to the bottom contact 0 plate of the device, preventing a circuit and indicating that the operator of the stylus has given an incorrect answer.

As shown, the closure or top 6 is provided with spaced parallel lines of openings 1, and trans- 65 verse slots 8, 9 and I0. Angular ribs indicated at H extend along the longitudinal edges of the top or closure 6, the lower ends of the angular ribs extending inwardly along the lower front edge of the closure or top, providing a frame in which sheets of paper of predetermined widths, may be positioned and held, while the device is in use.

Secured to the under surface of the closure or top 6, and insulated therefrom, is a contact plate l2 which is of a size to cover the-surface of the 10 top or closure 6, directly under the lines of openings l. Openings it are formed in the contact plate 12, the openings l3'being of less diameters than the diameters ofthe openings 5', for purposes to be hereinafter more fully described. 16

The slot 9 is of a width to receive a sheet of paper,-which is moved under the closure or top 6, to a position directly under the lines of openings I. This sheet constitutes the record sheet used inconnection with the device, and is pro- 20 vided with spaces visible through the slots 8, so that the name of theperson using the record sheet, and date the record sheet is used, may be placed thereon, through the. slots, for future reference. i "25 Extending transversely of the cabinet 5, near the upper end thereof, is a partition l4 that pro-' videsa light compartment with the upper end wall of the cabinet, in which compartment the electric lamp l5 is positioned. The reference character I"! designates a sub '35 stantially horizontal partition which is provided with parallel lines of openings 58 that register with the openings of the cover 6, and contact plate l2. The contact plate 2| is in circuit with the lamp (5, through the wire 22, while the contact-plate l2 is in circuit witha suitable source of electricity supply, through the wire 23, completing the circuit to the lamp l5, when the stylus, which in thepresent showing is indicated by the reference character 24 is posi- '5 cated at 26 are positioned in predetermined openings of the partition ll, so that when the stylus, which is indicated at 27, is extended into the registering openings of the cover 6 and con- I tact plate l2, the stylus will engage the heads of the pins, completing circuits to the lamp, causing the same to be lighted. lit will of course be understood that the stylus point 21 is of such a length that it will not extend into the openings of the partition l7, and therefore cannot contact with the plate 2| to complete: the circuit, if the stylus point 21 is positioned through registering openings of the cover 5 and contact plate l2, unless one of the pins 26, is disposed in the opening of the partition ll, directly under the registering openings in which the stylus point 21 is placed.

The test card which is used in connection with the device, is indicated by the reference character 28, and this card is provided with certain indicia or text matter indicating a question, as for example Water boils at 100 F.?, and directly opposite the indicia, the card is provided with openings, one opening being labeled T the other opening being labeled F. T indicates true and F indicates false. Positioned directly under the cover, is a removable sheet which constitutes the record sheet which is used in making a test, and on which the name of the person examined, appears, as well as the date on which the test is made.

Positioned directly on the member I1, is a card which constitutes .what may be termed the answer key card, the card being indicated by the reference character 23. This card is provided with openings properly located so that they will align with predetermined openings of the top 6, so that when the stylus is properly positioned, the stylus will pass through registering openings in the top, and partitioning member ll, as well as the cards supported directly thereabove, with the result that the stylus will contact with the plate 2|, to complete a circuit to accomplish the purpose of the invention. It is obvious that if the stylus is positioned in the openings of the card 28, which will not indicate the correct answer, the stylus will contact with the answer key card, and will form a slight depression therein, but will not pass through the answerkey card to contact with the plate 2! to complete the circuit. It will therefore be indicated that the person operating the stylus, has not selected the proper openings to cause the correct answer, to be signalled. It will of course be understood that the record sheet will be punched, and may be filed away for future reference, in deciding the results of the test. The device may be used in playing games, or in any way that the operator so desires, wherein correct answers are indicated by means of an audible or visible signal.

What is claimed is:

1. An indicating device comprising a box-like body portion, a compartment at one end of the body portion, spaced upper and lower members having aligning openings, positioned on the body portion, contact plates supported under said spaced members, one of said contact plates having openings aligning with openings of said spaced members, an electric signal in the compartment, an electric circuit between the signal and contact plates, a test card having openings aligning with the openings of the spaced members and contact plate having openings, 9.. record sheet positioned between the spaced members, a card having openings registering with certain openings of the spaced members, the latter card adapted to close certain other aligning openings, and a contact member adapted to be positioned in aligning openings of said spaced members and engaging the contact plates, completing an electric circuit to the signal, operating the signal.

2. An indicating device comprising a body portion, spaced members having aligning openings, supported on the'body portion, contact plates under the spaced members, an electric signal in the body portion, electric circuits between the lamp and contact plates, one of said contact plates having openings aligning with openings of said spaced members, a removable member having openings registering with certain aligning openings of the spaced members so that a contact member may be extended through aligning openings completing a circuit to the signal by contact with the contact p1ates,and the latter removable member adapted to overly openings of the spaced members preventing contact of the contact member with one of the contact plates, maintaining the circuit broken.

An indicating device comprising a body portion, an electric signal in the body portion, spaced upper and lower members having parallel lines of openings formed therein, a contact plate between. said spaced members and having openings aligning-with the openings of the spaced members, a contact plate positioned under the lower contact plate and adapted to be engaged by a contact, member extended through the aligning openings, a card having openings aligning with certain of the spaced members and contact plates 50' that a circuit may be completed to the signal when a contact member is positioned through the aligning openings, a card having openings aligning with certain of the openings and adapted to obstruct passage of the contact member through certain other openings guarding one of said contact plates against engagement by said contact member, to maintain the circuit to the signal broken.
