A further advantage of the slots 4 disposed between the side edges of the flat metal elements some furniture or mattress manufacturers may prefer to have said tie wires 4 encircle the inner peripheral edge of the frame 2. Y
I claim as my invention:
1. A spring assembly including a group of interconnected upholstery springs, a border frame for said group composed of flat, resilient, metal having its flat faces disposed in planes parallel with the skeleton surfaces formed by the said group of springs, said frame being provided between its side edges with a series of equally spaced apart perforations aligned with each other, said frame disposed in overlapping relation to the outermost portions of the terminal coils of the marginal springs, of said group to border a face of the assembly and a helical tie wire threaded through said perforation in embracing relation to pertions of the springs overlapped by said frame and about the last-named side edge of the latter to secure said frame to said springs,
2. A spring assembly including a group of interconnected upholstery springs, a border frame for said group composed of flat, resilient, metal having its fiat faces disposed in planes parallel with the skeleton surfaces formed by said group of springs, said frame being provided between its side edges with a series of equally spaced apart longitudinal slots, and a helical tie wire threaded through said slots in embracing relation to portions of the springs overlapped by said frame and about the last-named side edge of the latter to secure said frame to said springs.
3. A spring assembly including a group of interconnected upholstery springs, a. border frame for said group composed of flat, resilient, metal having its fiat faces disposed in planes parallel with the skeleton surfaces formed by the said group of springs, said frame being provided between its side edges with a series of equally spaced apart perforations aligned with each other, said frame disposed in overlapping relation to the outermost portions of the terminal coils of the marginal springs of said group to border a face of the assembly with the outer side edge frame disposed substantially tangentially to said portions of the springs overlapped thereby, and a helical tie wire threaded through said perforation in embracing relation to portions of the springs overlapped by said frame and about the last-named side edge of the latter to secure said frame to said springs. 4. A spring assembly composed of interconnected upholstery springs, a frame composed of thin, fiat, resilient, metal bordering said assembly and overlapping the outermost portions of the terminal coils of the marginal springs ofthe assembly, said frame equipped with equally spaced apart perforations midway between the side edges of its side and end rails, andthelical tie wires threaded through said perforations in embracing relation to portions of the marginal springs of said assembly overlapped thereby, the inner diameter of said tie wires being such that they substantially contact a side edge of the "rails through which they are threaded and also snugly embrace said last-named portions of said springs,

5. A spring assembly composed of interconnected upholstery springs, a frame composed of thin, flat, resilient, metal bordering said assembly and overlapping the outermost portions of the terminal coils of the marginal springs of the assembly, said frame equipped with equally spaced apart longitudinal slots midway between the side edges of its side and end rails, and helical tie wires threaded through said slots in embracing relation to portions of the marginal springs of said assembly overlapped thereby, the inner diameter of said tie wires being such that they sub stantially contact a side edge of the rails through which they are threaded and also snugly embrace said last-named portions of said springs, the position of said longitudinal slots being such that the said tie wires may be positioned selectively to embrace the inner or outer side edges of said rails.
6. A spring assembly composed of interconnected upholstery springs, a frame composed "of thin, flat, resilient, metal bordering said assembly and overlapping the outermost portions of the terminal coils of the marginal springs .ofthe assembly, saidframe equipped with equally spaced apart longitudinal slots midway between the side edges of its side and end rails, and helical tie wiresthreaded through said slots in embracing relation to portions of the marginal springs of said assembly overlapped thereby, the inner diameter of said tie wires being such that they substantialy contact a side edge of the rails through which they are threaded and also snugly em brace said last-named portions of said springs, the position of said slots being such that said tie wires may be positioned selectively to embrace the inner or outer side edges of said rails, the length of said slots being such that two tie wires may be threaded through each thereof.

A spring assembly comprising a plurality of parallel rows of upholstery springs, a series of thin, flat, resilient,.metal strips disposed to overlap opposed portions of the terminal coils of contiguous rows of said springs, said strips equipped with equally spaced apart perforations throughout the length thereof, and helical tie wires threaded through said perforations in embracing relation to portions of said terminal coils of springs over-lapped thereby and embracing also the respective side edges of said strips, each of the latter cooperating with said tie wires to couple all of the springs of one row with all of the springs of the next adjacent row.

A spring assembly comprising a plurality of parallel rows of upholstery springs, a series of thin, fiat, resilient, metal strips disposed to overlap opposed portions of the terminal coils of contiguous rows of said springs, said strips equipped with equally spaced apart longitudinal slots throughout the length thereof, and helical tie wires threaded through said slots in embracing relation to portions of said terminal coils of springs overlapped thereby and embracing also the respective side edges of said strips, each of the latter cooperating with said tie wires to couple all of the springs of one row with all of the springs of the next adjacent row.
9. A spring assembly comprising a plurality of parallel rows of upholstery springs, a series of thin, flat, resilient, metal strips disposed to overlap opposed portions of the terminal coils of contiguous rows of said springs, said strips equipped with equally spaced apart longitudinal slots of a length to accommodate two helical tie wires threaded therethrough, said slots disposed midway between the side edges of said strips, and a pair of helical tie wires threaded through said slots of each of said strips in respective embracing relation to'opposite side edges thereof and in embracing relation to portions of the terminal springs of two rows of the latter overlapped by said strips.

A spring assembly comprising parallel rows of upholstery springs, flat, thin, resilient, metal strips disposed in overlapping relation to opposed portions of the terminal coils of contiguous rows of said springsand equipped between their side edges with rows of equally spaced apart perforations, helical tie wires threaded through said perforations in embracing relation to the side edges of said strips and portions of the springs overlapped thereby, a similar flat strip border frame disposed in overlapping relation to the outermost portions of the terminal coils of all of the marginal springs of the assembly and equipped with perforations similarly to the said first-named'strlps, and helical tie wires threaded through the last-named perforations in embracing relation to a side edge of said frame and portions of the springs overlapped thereby, the ends of the first-named strips being spaced from said frame and said first-named tie wires connected at their ends with said frame.
11. A spring assembly comprising parallel rows of upholstery springs, flat, thin, resilient, metal strips disposed in overlapping relation to opposed portions of the terminal coils of contiguous rows of said springs and equipped midway between their side edges with rows of equally spacedapart longitudinal slots, helical tie wires threaded through saidslots in embracing relation to the sideedges of said strips and portions of the springs overlapped thereby, a similar flat strip border frame disposed in overlapping relation to the outermost portions of the terminal coils of I all of the marginal springs of the assembly and equipped with longitudinal slots similarly to the said first-named strips and helical tie wires threaded through said slots in embracing relation to a side edge of said frame and portions of the springs overlapped thereby, the ends of the first-named strips being spaced from said frame and said first-named tie wires connected at their 'ends with said frame.
