DEVICE FOR THE REGULATION` OF |JlHE OIL FEED IN OIL FURNACES Edwin Sprenger, Zurich, Switzerland Application October 20, 1937, Serial No. 170,084
In Germany October 21, 1936 3 claims. (ol. 251-132) My invention relates to devices for the regulaits interior it possesses a tubular guideway |88 tion oi the oil feedin oil furnaces and particularly having inflow. apertures at its side. Along in such oil furnaces in which a preheating bed this guideway |08 a member |2| slides perforated consisting of refractory fire-bricks is provided in axially and provided with a screw thread.
5 through which the combustion air sweeps from Into the sliding member l-Zl a valve spindle 3| is `5 below and against which several oil-jets from a screwed carrying on :its lower extremity a valve plurality of burners are directed from the top. Cone Ml. Openings are provided in the casing It is important that the. fuelthat has to be I! opposite the outletsand each opening is atomised by steam should descend from above Closed by a SCreW plug I! which has in its in- 1o uniformly on the preheating bed occupying the teriora cavity |5| into which the valve spindle 19 `grate or bottom area of the fire box, this being ISI projects. Each Plug |5| visprovided at its effected with the aid of the several burners` inner end with a perforated disc lll `through heady mentioned, which passes the valve spindle |3l. Between the As the @i1 musi; accordingly be Conducted t0 sliding member |2| and the disc is tteol a iii several consumption spots if a uniform spraying pressure-Spring |8| by which the valve cone |4| l5 of the Q1-engaging` bed is to be attained, the inmounted on the valve spindle i3! is pressed down f vention provides for a control member with sev- 0n the valve seat in the socket 1|. In order to eral valves regulated conjointly, though adjustpermit readjilstment Without elaborate disable independently, by which control member the mantling When the valve seat or the valve conev calculated amount of oil is delivered to the sevl4l has heCOme WOM, the plug |5I has) a Screwed 20 eral. consumption points. As the burners have hole in it that is closed by a Screw |0|. After to be subject to a common control but must not thiS SCIeW l9l has been IemOVed, the Upper eX- all be supplied with equal amounts of fuel if the tremity 0f the Valve Spindle i3! Which iS provided best distributiony of i-lre in the fire box is to with aslot, becomes accessible and by rotation the be reached, it becomes possible by means of this Valve spindle |3| in the slide member |2| may 25 control member to measure the amounts of fuel be reedl'llsted- FOY eeeh Outlet ih the Casing lill supplied to the Various burners, even when operthere iS a flange 208 at right angles t0 the outlet ating, if necessary, and to balance these amounts and having e perforation through Which a bolt or against each other until the best adjustment is Din 2H een IlOVe.v This bolt or pin is threaded obtained, although ci' course the control renand iS held in the ilahge 208 by means of a per- 30 dered necessary by the momentary load condition forated screw 22| having an internal thread and of a locomotive or such like must be applied to SeIVihg t0 CIOS@ the here in the ahe 293. A
all burners conjointly. packing seal is arranged between the screw 22| In the accompanying drawing a controlling and the ange 208, while the bolt 2H is maindevice according to my invention is illustrated. tained ih position hy meahS 0f a 100k-nut 24|. 35 Fig. 1 snows partly in section the controlling For purposes of protection a completely enclosing device while hood or cap 25| is screwed on to the flange 208. Fig 2 is a section on the line g in Figl 1, A bearing-piece 28| is connected with the bolt Referring now to Figs. 1 and 2 the device for 2| I, so that the bolt can rotate relatively to it,
regulating the feed of oil has a cylindrical easing and t0 'hls beamg'piece' 25| are hinged tWO 40 ml equipped with fastening flanges 2g| This levers 21| each having a slot 28|. 'I'hese levers casing is closed at one end a Cover are disposed on either Side of the through which passes a supply pipe @0L At its member |2| and are connected with the latter by other end this casing |0| is closed by a Cover pins 29| screwed into the sliding member |2| andv 50| through which also passes a similar pipe sul, with their extremities resting in the slots 28|. 45 The purpose of this duplicate pipe arrangement In the casing |0| there is mounted a shaft 308 is to ensure a supply under all circumstances and, Which iS journaled at one end in the inside of in @ertain Cases, to be able t0 Connet up with the COVel' 50| and at the other end lll the COVeI `two storage containers. On the casing |0| sev- 30|. On the outer extremity of this shaft 388 is eral outlets are provided in one line, and each mounted a Control lever 3H, While Within the 50 of these outlets is equipped with a screwed socket casing |0| eccentrics 32| are mounted on the 'll to which is tightly secured from without, by shaft 308, one eccentric being allotted to each means of a union 9|, a pipe 8| leading to a conoutlet. The levers 21| bear upon these eccentrics, sumption point. The internal mouth of each and as the shaft 308 rotates, the eccentrics 32| socket 1| is in the form of a valve seat while in move thev levers 21| and, thereby, the sliding 5I member l2! with the valve spindles I3l. As a result of the rotation of the shaft 308 the valves of all the outlets are thus operated oonjointly, being shifted from the closed position to that of maximum opening. The opening of the valves can noW be adjusted by loosening the lock-nuts 24| and displacing the bolts 2li. In this Way the levers 27| have their leverage ratios modified. In order to provide adequate accommodation for the levers 2H and the eccentrics 32l, the casing lOl is widened at the points opposite the flanges 208. The opening of the valves can be regulated independently of each other, and the adjustment may be carried out even when work is in progress. This enables the amounts ovving through the separate valves to be quantitatively balanced against each other with precision and to be adapted to the conditions prevailing.
The control member according to the invention has only a single packing gland, this being located at the spot where the shaft BSS passes through the cover H. The functioning of the control member is thus very easily carried out more especially Since, as in the present case, all moving parts run in oil.
I claim:
1. In a device of the class described, an oil receptacle having an outlet controlled by a valve. said valve having a threaded spindle, a threaded slide member adjustable on the threaded valve spindle, a pin carried by said slide member, a cam shaft mounted in the receptacle and having a cam, and an oscillating lever actuated by said cam and having a longitudinal slot for engagement with said pin.
2. In a device for controlling the supply of oil and air in oil furnaces, an oil receptacle having an outlet and a guideway surrounding said outlet, a valve for controlling ow through said outlet, said valve having a slide member within the receptacle and adjustable on the valve spindle, a pin on the slide member, an actuating lever engageable with the pin, said slide member being slidable in the guidway surrounding the outlet, and an inflow aperture provided in the wall of the guideway.
3. In a device of the class described, an oil receptacle having an outlet, a guideway surrounding the outlet and an opening opposite the outlet and guideway, a valve controlling flow through the outlet and having a threaded spindle Within the receptacle, a threaded slide member adjustably mounted on the spindle and having a pin, an actuating lever engageable by the pin, a spring engageable with the slide member for shifting the same, a plug for closing the opening and forming a stop for one end of the spring, said plug having a bore, and a screw closing the bore, said screw being removable for permitting access to the valve Spindle whereby readjustment of said valve spindle with respect to the slide member may be effected.
EDWIN SPRENG'ER.
