My invention relates to improvements in dead end cable clamps and an object of my invention is to devise a clamp which will alternatively dead end cables of different cross-sectional diameters without having to remove and replace the clamping element.
A further object is to devise a rotatable keeper associated with the clamping element and clamping seat which is provided with a plurality of longitudinal grooves of different cross-sectional radii in its surface, one of which may receive the cable of corresponding cross-sectional radius.
With the above and other objects in view which will hereinafter appear as my specification proceeds, my invention consists of the construction and arrangement all as hereinafter more particularly described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which- Fig. 1 represents a side view of my dead end clamp.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view.
Fig. 3 is an end view viewed from the end of the clamp provided with the keeper, and
Fig. 4 is a perspective detail of the keeper.
Like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different views of the drawmg.
My dead end clamp comprises a snubbing member I having a groove 2 in the peripheral surface thereof, said groove being pitched from its end where the cable enters to the end where the cable leaves the block and passes over the clamping seat 3, the groove defining a loop so that the cable is correspondingly looped. The clamping seat 3 is preferably disposed at right angles to the axis of the cable as it enters the groove of the snubbing member.
A forked bracket portion 4 by means of which the clamp is attached to a support is preferably formed integrally with the snubbing member.
The cable contacting face of the clamping seat 3 is provided with a rebate 5 with a longitudinal groove 6 to receive the cable, and a keeper 1 of preferably triangular cross-section and provided on each side face with a longitudinal cable receiving groove 8 of different cross-sectional radius to that of the adjacent sides. Notches 9 are provided in the apices of the keeper 1 to receive the base and legs of the U-bolt I0 which straddles the keeper, and the legs of such U-bolt extend freely through the clamping seat and have nuts ll threaded thereon and adapted to engage the face of the clamping seat remote from the cable contacting face.
In employing my dead end clamp the cable A is snubbed around the'member I in the groove 2 with its slack end protruding beyond the clamping seat 3. Depending upon the diameter of the cable A by looseningthe nuts, ll the U-bolt Ill may be moved away from the seat until the keeper 1 can be rotated when it may be turned so that the groove 9 of corresponding cross-sectional radius tothe cross-sectional radius of the cable may receive the latter whenthe U-bolt may be tightened down by the 'nuts f'orcing inward the keeper-1 to clamp the cable between it'and the clamping seat 3.
From the above description it will be apparent that by use of my rotatable keeper cables of three different diameters may be alternatively, clamped in position without havingto remove the U-bolt.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. In a cable clamp, in combination, a clamping seat, a clamping element 'adjustably mounted on the clamping seat, and a keeper rotatable in said clamping element when the latter is adjusted into a non-clamping position on the clamping seat, said keeper having a plurality of longitudinal grooves of different cross-sectional radii in its surface, any one of which is adapted to receive a cable of corresponding cross-sectional radius such that the cable is clamped between the clamping seat and the keeper upon the clamping element being adjusted into the clamping position on the clamping seat wherein the keeper is non-rotatably held in such clamping element.
2. In a cable clamp, in combination, a clamping seat, a U-bolt having its legs extending freely through the clamping seat, nuts threaded on the legs of the U-bolt and adapted to engage the face of the clamping seat remote from its clamping face, and a keeper rotatable in said U-bolt when the latter is adjusted into a non-clamping position on the clamp-ing seat, said keeper having a plurality of longitudinal grooves of different cross-sectional radii in its surface, any one of which is adapted to receive a cable of corresponding cross-sectional radius such that the cable is clamped between the clamping seat and the keeper upon the U-bolt being adjusted into the clamping position on the clamping seat wherein the keeper is non-rotatably held in such U-bolt.

4. In a-cable clamp, in combination, a clamping seat, a U-bolt having its legs extending freely through the clamping seat, nuts threaded on the legs of the U-bolt and adapted to engage the face of the clamping seat remote from its clamping face, and a keeper rotatable in said U-bolt when the latter is adjusted into a non-clamping position on the clamping seat, said keeper being of triangular cross-section with notches in its apices adapted to receive the legs and base of the U-bolt and with longitudinal grooves of difierent crosssectional radii in its surface, any one of which is adapted to receive a cable of corresponding cross-sectional radius such that the cable is clamped between the clamping seat and the keeper upon the U-bolt being adjusted into the clamping position on the clamping seat wherein the keeper is non-rotatably held in such U-bolt.

A keeper for a cable clamp of the kind having a clamping seat and an adjustable clamp comprising a member having a plurality of fiat faces disposed at an angle to each other with a longitudinal cable receiving groove of different cross-sectional diameter to those of the remaining grooves in each face, and means on the member for rotatably retaining the same in the clamp when the latter is retracted and nonrotatably retaining the member in the clamp when the clamp is in the clamping position.
6. A keeper tor a cable clamp of the kind having a clamping seat and an adjustable U-bolt clamp comprising a member of triangular crosssection with a longitudinal cable receiving groove of different cross-sectional diameter to those of the remaining grooves in each face, and means on the member for rotatably retaining the same in the clamp when the latter is retracted and nonrotatably retaining the member in the clamp when the clamp is in the clamping position.
