Said mo.- ranged a drum respectively 40-.4I-42 the latter 55 being made in one piece With the protective cover 43 in Whose internal cavity there is lodged the outside end of the xed body I and the outside end of the moveable body I9. The drums Ail- 4i are handled by means of projecting tooth crowns 44 and 45 While the drum 42 is handled by means of the cover 43, which may be conveniently striated. The drums 4-4l42 are held in position by a fork l carried by a support `ll'l fixed to the frame 2` by means of ascreW 48 provided with a knurled head 49, The drums L- lil 42 cooperate with rings 34-35-35 to which they can be keyed in any desired angular positions. For this purpose, as shown in Fig. 3, the rings are substantially polygonal shaped on their outsides and the drums have corresponding internal shapes. Thus, it is possible to arrange the drums angularly With respect to the rings in such a Way that the letters or numbers engraved on the outer surface of the drums may be combined differently the combinations being previously established and easily modied at will by the owner or user of the bag.
The different angular positions of the drums are made noticeable by means of springs 5- 5l-52 carried by the console shaped support 4l and cooperating with notches 53 provided in the peripheries of the drums.
As illustrated in Fig, l around the drums there vmay be arranged cylindrical protection plates Ell-55 provided with openings 56-57 which al low the reading of the combination of three letters or ciphers constituting the key of the combination of the lock.
The present invention has been illustrated and disclosed in a preferred form of realisation, but of course constructive modifications may be ntroduced Without trespassing the limits of protection of the patent. For instance each of the drums may be provided with a projecting tooth 58 capable of giving a tactile reference to the user of the'device so that in the dark and lar casing, a bolt mounted in said casing for re- 10 ciprocation therein, and a series of coaxial individually rotatable tumblers surrounding said bolt and provided with notched inwardly-directed iianges, said bolt comprising a cylindrical element having a radial slotl in its midportion and longitudinal bores. on each side of said slot, a
plate slidably mounted in said slot and provided with a series of projecting teeth cooperable respectively With said tumbler anges, and yieldable resilient means in said bores bearing against opposite ends of said plate to urge said teeth yieldably in a radial direction toward said tumbler flanges.
2. In a lock of the character described, a tubular casing, a bolt mounted in said casing for reciprocation therein, and a series of coaxial individually rotatable tumblers surrounding said bolt and provided With notched inwardly-directed anges, said bolt comprising a cylindrical element having a radial slot in its midportion and longitudinal bores on each side of said slot, a plate slidably mounted in said slot and provided with a series of projecting teeth cooperable respectively with said tumbler flanges, and yieldable resilient means in said bores bearing against opposite ends of said plate to urge said teeth yieldably in a radial direction toward said tumbler flanges, said yieldable resilient means cornprising a plunger in each of said bores, and a compression spring behind it.
