My invention relates to toy wagons.
Among the objects of my invention is to provide toy wagons having a construction that will permit them to turn in the minimum of space and z, in which the second unit will follow exactly in line with the path of the first unit, and such other objects, advantages and capabilities as will later more fully appear and which are inherently possessed by my invention.
While I have shown in the accompanying drawing a preferred form of my invention yet I desire it understood that the same is susceptible of modification and change without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Referring to the drawing Fig. 1 is a top plan view of a pair of my toy wagons; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of one of my wagons; Fig. 3 is a top plan view on line 3-3 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is an end elevation of my toy wagon.
The embodiment selected to illustrate my invention comprises a wagon ll having the usual floor II and walls It. Adjacent each of the ends of the wagon is a block I! attached to the under P rtion of the floor II by suitable means such as screws or the like.
In each of said blocks II the upper end of a bolt I4 is positioned. Each of said bolts continues downwardly through a bushing II in axle frame It. The bottom of each bolt I may have a nut or head II. A nut I8 is placed on each bolt Just above where it enters the block ll.
Each axle frame II is substantially U shaped with wide arm portions I! joined by a connecting portion and having a hollowed out central 35 p rtion 2|. Through the arms II and hollow central portion 21 of each of said axle frames It extends an axle I! which supports wheels 23.
A rod or shaft 24 is attached on one end to one of the axle frames l0 and on the other end to the other axle frame.- Preferably, the ends of the rod are attached to flattened top I! of the axle frame II at the opposite inner edges of the ends of the same. as shown in Fig. 3 at I. and
21. One end of the rod 24 is attached as far laterally from the center of one axleframe, as the other end is attached to the other axle frame Ii.
The axle frames Ii pivot on bolts ll to about 45 degrees and are prevented from further pivoting by block 28 attached to the bottom of floor II at the rear end thereof.
A tongue 29 is attached to the front of axle frame l8. Loops 30 are attached to tongue 29 and loops 3| to receive a connecting bolt or like 32 so that several wagons or a trailer may be attached thereto.
In use, when the front wheels of one of my wagons are turned, the rod 24 also acts to turn the rear wheels. I This permits turning in a minimum of space. Connected wagons attached to the front wagon follow in the same path as the wheels of the front wagon.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
A toy wagon comprising a body portion, a pair of blocks attached to the under portion of the floor of the wagon at opposite ends thereof, a pair of axle frames pivotally attached to said blocks, said axle frames substantially u shaped and having a pair of arms, a connecting portion, a central hollow portion and a flat top, a pair of axles attached to said axle frames and extending through the arms and hollow portions of the same, wheels supported on said axles, a connecting bar extending between said axle frames, one end of said bar attached to the flat top of one of said axle frames a desired distance laterally of the center in one direction, and the other end of the bar attached to the flat top of the other of said axle frames a desired distance laterally of the center in the direction opposite to the first mentioned axle frame so that when the front wheels are turned the connecting bar will cause the rear wheels to also turn so that the wagon may be turned in a minimum of space, and a stop member attached to the bottom side of the rear of the floor of the wagon to engage the axle frame upon movement past 45 degrees, and means attached to said stop member for engaging another wagon or trailer.
