This invention relates to certain'newand useful improvements in cabinets intended for household use in kitchens, etc.
One of the objects of the inventionis the provision of a portable cabinet of this character which is simple and compact in construction.
neat in appearance and unique in design, and which serves as a convenient accessory for the well equipped kitchen.
Another object is the provision of i a kitchen cabinet which has been designed in one compact unit to receive miscellaneous items and sundry articles used in and about the kitchen, and whereby an orderly, yet convenientlyaccessible,
Other features of the invention residein the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter describedand particularly pointed out in the appended claims. I I
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of. the portable cabinet embodying my invention. Figure 2 is a central longitudinal section thereof showing the door of the end compartment open. Figure 3 is an enlarged horizontal section taken substan-.- tially in the plane of line 3-3, Figure l. Figure 4 is an enlarged transverse section taken on line 4-4, Figure 2. Figure 5 is a similar section taken on line 5-5, Figure 4. Figure 6 is a front view of a slightly modified form of thecabinet.
Similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
Referring now to the drawings, the improved cabinet, which is preferably made of sheet metal or like fire-proof material, consists of a portable body l of unique design which is adapted to be placed on a shelf, table, stove or other flat surface or which may be hung, if desired on the wall, and which is provided with a comparatively longhorizontal section H and anadjoining con-j tiguously-formed upright section |2. The section I is provided with a plurality of forwardlyopening vertical compartments, two ofthe compartments indicated by the numerals l3 and I4 being provided at the outer end of such section and extending crosswise thereof and being adapted to receive such articles as a cooking book, budget book, diary, etc. These compartments, by preference, extend from front to rear and from top to bottom of the cabinet. Adjoining these two compartments in substantially parallel relation therewith is a similar compartment I which is adapted to receive a projectible bank IS in which may be conveniently deposited the savings for such purposes as the gas and electric bills, and various other budgeting savings. In its preferred construction, this bank is mounted to swingint'o and out of the cabinet-compartment and for this purpose is hinged at I! to theupper front edge of such compartment, as seen in-Figures land 5; Also hinged at I! is a verticallypartment when swinging it into and out of the same and the rear wall thereof is provided with an opening ZDthrough which the deposited coins i may be removed as desired. A suitable key-controlledlock 2| may be provided for locking the bank'in its compartment so that it is not accessible to unauthorized persons. In the bank compartment I5, and preferably at the lower end thereof, there is provided a slidingdrawer or supporting panel 22 which may be used as a receiver for invoices, paper money, etc., a flat spring 23 serving to yieldingly hold such papers against displacement in the drawer. The lock 2| may have its bolt 24 disposed to engage an opening 25 in the drawer 22 to simultaneously lock it in the compartment.
Also disposedin the elongated body-section and inwardly of the previously described compartments are superposed forwardly-opening horizontal compartments 26 and 21. The upper compartment 26 may be closed by a hinged door 28 and may be used to receive miscellaneous articles of small sizes. The lower compartment 21 contains a drawer 29 which may serve as a recipe card index or the like.
their outer edges a suitable distance from the door-opening, and the door 3| has asuitable rack 35 on its rear side to receive a first aid kit or like equipment, this rack extending into the outer portion of the compartment 30 in the closed position of the door, as seen in Figure 3. On its inner face and above the rack 35, the door 3| may be provided with a suitable inventory chart 36.
On its front wall the upright section ll! of the cabinet may be provided with one or more adjustable indicators or dials which may be properly designed to serve as an adjustable calendar or which may serve as an adjustable indicator and contain the proper instructions to indicate to the housewife the various temperaturesand .times required in preparing meats and other foods. In the drawings, two of such indicators are shown disposed one above the other. For this purpose,
each of these indicators consists of a substantially circular casing 31 suitably fastened'to'the cabinet wall by bent over tongues 38 or like,
I means and between which and the cabinet wall is disposed a rotatable dial 39"-mounted on'a stud shaft 40 journaled in such casing. If desired, this casing may be provided with inner and outer concentric faces 4! and 42, in which case there is provided for cooperation with .the inner face 4! a second or smaller dial or disk # 3 whichis mounted on a sleeve 44 journaled in the casing 31, the outer face 42 cooperating with the larger dial 39, as shown in Figures 1-and3. Suitable handles 45 and 4B are provided on the shaft 40 and sleeve M, respectively, for manipu lating the dials-39 and43 at the will of the user. Theconcentric facesM and 42 of the casing have radial openings 48 therein through which the printed matter on the respective dials is exposed.
In the modified form of the-invention shownin Figure 6, the upright section 12a of the cabinet has been shown to be equipped with a radio receiving set, the numeral 48 indicating the station dial and the numerals 49 indicating the control knobs of the set. In this form of the cabinet, as wellas the previously describedconstruction,
a suitably designed name plate .50 maybe provided as shown.
I claim as my invention:-
1. A cabinet of the character described, comprising a body having a compartment therein, a receiver hinged to the open end of said compartment and movable into and out of said compartment and having inlet and discharge openings therein, a slidable support in said compartment adjacent one end of the receiver and movable into and out of the same, and common lock means for locking said receiver and said support in their housed position within the compartment.
2. A cabinet of the character described comprisinga body having a compartmenttherein, a receiver hinged to the open end of said compartment and movable into and out of said compartment, a supporting means in said compartment in adjoining relation to one end of said receiveriand 'movable into and out of the compartment, and common lock means for locking said receiver and said supporting means in their housed position within the compartment.
3. A cabinet of the character described, comprising a'body having a compartment therein, a
receiver hinged to the open end of said com-.
partment and movable into and out of said compartment, a supporting means in said compartment in adjoining relation to one end of said receiver and movable into and out of the compartment, common lock means for locking said receiver and said supporting means in their housed position within the compartment, and a closure for normally closing said compartment and concealing said receiver, said supporting means and said lock means.
4. A cabinet of the character described, comprising a body having a compartment therein, a receiver hinged to the open end of said compartment and movable in a vertical plane into and out of said compartment and having an inlet opening in its front wall and a discharge opening in its rear wall, a lock means for said receiver, and a closure for normally closing said compartment and concealing the inlet-bearing front wall of said receiver and hinged on the same axis as the receiver, the discharge opening'in the rear wall of said receiver being exposed in the outward position thereof.
