2 Claims.
The object of the present invention-is to provide a sash lock .constituting an improvement over such devices `of` the same general type as shown in the patent to Lindgren, No. 1,704,946 of March l2, 192,9, in that the'device provides a safer locking construction and, at the same time, has greater simplicity o-f construction and isof low cost.
The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure l is a view in elevation of a pair oi' window sash members to which an embodiment of the invention has been applied, the sash mem bers being shown in partly open position for ventilating purposes.
Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary section elevation on theline 2--2, Figure 1.
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional elevation on the line 3-3, Figure 1.
Figure 4 is an elevation of the face plate employed in the modified device shown in Figure 4A.
Figure 4A ls a w'ew in transverse section of a horizontal window' frame member showing, partly in section, the cam latch portion of a modification of the structure illustrated in Figures l and 2.
Figure 5 is a side elevation of the device shown in Figure 4, partly in section.

It has been recognized that the usual rotary cam latch applied to sash windows at the central portion of the same gives insufficient locking protection for windows inasmuch as the removal of a section of the glass forwardly of the latch enables ready release of the latch` by normal rotation. Also, theY rotary cam` latching member moves on a pivot and hence a single headed stud must be used as a pivot member, making it easy for a marauder to Wrench `the latch from its pivot by a leverage force applied through a metal bar. v
By means of the present invention, unlike existing devices of the type, the Window sash will be locked even after forcible removal of thevrotary cam latch, although the latter is employed to throw into action they supplemental locking means bywhichsaid effect is produced. Forcible removal `of the rotary cam latching memberv will not expose the connection between the ysame and the supplemental lock actuating means,
the latter still being held guarded and in a dead center position relatively to the pivot member for the rotary latch, so that the supplemental locking member is latched.

The disk l rotates' with rotary latch member ,5, beingdisposedvwithin a recess formed in the bottomwall .of plate 9.
Connected to pin 8 is one end of arod. l2` having a cam face at i3. The cam face end` of rod l2 `enters a transversely extending guide channel indicated at h5, `Figures 6, and formed in a casing I5, the casing having a longitudinally 25 extending chamber in which is disposed a locking pin i6 formed at its'v inner end with an enlarged head itx which engages the cam`face of rod l?. A springxed at one end and bearing upon the enlarged head lnormally moves 30 the pin inwardly and` thus out of operative position. The pin is thrown into operative posi'- tion by movement of rod l2 to` vthe position shown in Figure 6. It will be noted that when the rod is in such locking position, pin 3 is *disposed at 35 a dead center position relatively to headed stud 6. Thus, it is impossible to move rod `il? to release locking pin it unless disk 'i is rotated. The eiiect of this construction is that should the rotary latch member 5 bey forced upwardly and 40 `turned away from headed stud S, it still `will be` impossible to release the supplemental lock;

Rotation of the barrel will throw downwardly a locking pin I9 and the pin will-entera hole formed in base plate 9, as shown more particu- -larly in Figure 5. The latter operation. will lock the rotary latch member.v This locking is effect- 55 ed after the said latch member 5 is moved to a position Where rod l2, through its cam end I3, will have operated locking pin i6 to enter one of a plurality of holes formed in a plate 20 carried by the upper sash 3.
In Figure 4 the base plate 9 at its front edge is formed with a channel to receive the horizontal flange of 'a movable plate 9a. At the exterior of the plate is a washer Hb having a reduced extension Which enters an aperture in plate 9a, the Washer being provided with a threaded aperture to receive screw lla. From the rear edge or plate 3 extends an integral depending iiange 9b through Which the head-end of screw Ela passes. the application of the device to upper frame members 2 of various thicknesses.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters' Patent, is as follows:
l. A sash lock comprising a base plate having means for securing the saine to the upper horizontal sash frame member of the lowermost of two vertically slidable sash members, the base -plate being formed atits underiace with a cham- This arrangement enables e Wardly through the base plate, a pivot pin eccentrically depending from the disk and adapted to receive one end of a bar for operating supplementary sash locking means, a rotary cam latch mounted on the upper end of said stud and adapted to engage receiving catch means' carried by the upper sash, `and key-operable lock means carried by said cam latch and including a bolt adapted to be projected downwardly from the cam latch into an aperture formed in said base plate. A sash lock constructed in accordance with claim 1, in combination with a supplementary bolt operating bar having one end thereof mounted upon said eccentrically depending stud of n the rotary disk, said stud, the cam latch and the vertically extendingaxial stud carried by the rotary disk being so related that when the cam latch is rotated to operative position the depending stud is moved to dead center position relative to the axis of movement of the rotary cam latch, whereby removal of the cam latchfrom the upwardly projecting stud of the rotary disk will be ineiective to permitrotation of said disk by a longitudinal movement of the rod.
