The invention relates to a straightening machine and more particularly to machines for straightening cloth.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a machine of this character, wherein the weft of textile fabric, after the bleaching thereof, will be straightened and such machine is susceptible of adjustment to care for thin or heavy fabrics so that the cloth can be straightened when 9 carried through the machine.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a machine of this character, wherein the same is a refinement over the subject matter of Letters Patent No. 1,404,110 issued January 17, 1922, relating to a Cloth straightening machine and is susceptible of convenient adjustment to suit the quality of the fabric to be straightened.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a machine of this character, which is simple in its construction, thoroughly reliable and efficient in operation, convenient for easy control thereof, durable, and inexpensive to manufacture and install.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illmtrated in the accompanying drawings, which disclose the preferred and modified forms of embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.

Figure 1 is a fragmentary side elevation of the machine constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary bottom plan View slightly on an enlarged scale.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary side elevation showing in detail one adjustment.
Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 3 showing another adjustment.
Figure 5 is an enlarged sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 3 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 6 is a fragmentary side elevation showing a slight modification of the adjustment.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.
Referring to the drawings in detail, particularly Figures 1 to 5, inclusive, A designates generally the frame of the machine, being in this instance supported by suspension hangers l0 suitably braced at l I, the frame being inclined in one direction.
The side members l2 of the frame A following the lowermost edges thereof carry bearings in the form of boxes 13 for the journaling of lower rollers i l therein, the journals being indicated at IS. A hearing box IE is secured to one end of each of the side members l2 of the frame A and these bearings support the journal ll of a take-up roller I8.
Movable carriers l9 are arranged at the upper edges of the side members I 2 of the frame A, these being provided with bearing boxes for the journals H for upper rollers 22, the carriers 9, being two in number, each carrying a pair of rollers 22 and such pairs of rollers is disposed spaced from each other. The carriers iii are slidably A by means of brackets 23, these being secured by bolts 24 which pass through a longitudinally eX tending slot 23 in the said side bar. This arrangement will permit the rollers 22 to asume an inclined position when the carriers [3 are moved along the frame A.
A roller 26 is fitted in the frame A over which is passed the cloth 21, the latter being trained in zigzag manner over the rollers I 4 and 22 in its feed to an overhead guide roller 28 supported elevated from the frame A.
The carriers l3 are upon a shift bar slidably mounted on the upper edge of one side member 12 of the bar 23 has an upwardly extending arm 3!? provided with a screw threaded opening (not shown) accommodating adjusting screw 3! carrying a hand operating wheel 32, the screw being journaled in a support 33 fixed to and rising from one end of the frame A. In this manner both carriers I9 can be adjusted to change the relationship of the rollers l 9 with respect to the rollers l4.
On the side members I2 of the frame A intermediate with relation to the carriers l8 and disposed at the lowermost edges of said side members are bearings 34 accommodating the journal ends 35 of a brass roll 36 and one of these journal ends 35 is provided with a transverse passage or opening 3'! while removably insertable in this passage or opening 31 is a latching stem or plunger 38. The plunger 33 slidably fits a barrel 39 fixed at 40 to one side member !2 of the frame A, the plunger 38 being vertically disposed for alignment in a vertical path with the opening 37 before mentioned. Thus it can be seen that the roll 33 can be made fixed or released. The plunger 38 carries a keeper screw 4| slidable in a guide slot 42 having a lateral seating notch 43 entering the same. Thus the plunger stem 38 can be latched in released position or held in engagsecured to a side member [2 of the frame 36 is locked when heavy fabric material is straightened and unlocked when fine material is operated upon for the straightening thereof in the machine.
In Figure 6 of the drawings there is shown a slight modification of the invention wherein the roll 44, which is the equivalent of the roll 36, has attached to its journal 45 a ratchet wheel 46 with which cooperates a ratchet dog or pawl 41 pivotally bracketed at 48 on the side member 49 of the frame of the machine and in this manner the roll 44 is latched and unlatched for the fixing of such roll or the freeing thereof in the operation of the machine.
What is claimed is:
l. A cloth straightening machine comprising a frame, a plurality of rollers associated with said frame and having cloth trained about the same, means for changing the relation of a certain group of rollers with respect to the remaining rollers, a roll journaled on the frame in association with said rollers, means for releasably looking the said roll against rotation, an adjustable ing position hereinbefore mentioned. The roll device cooperating with the group of shiftable rollers, carriers for said shiftable rollers and active only at one end of each of the same, the roll having a perforated journal end, and a plunger stem included in said second-named means and separably engageable in the perforation in said journal end.
2. A cloth straightening machine comprising a frame, a plurality of rollers associated with said frame and having cloth trained about the same, means for changing the relation of a certain group of rollers with respect to the remaining rollers, a roll journaled on the frame in association with said rollers, means for releasably looking the said roll against rotation, an adjustable device cooperating with the group of shiftable rollers, carriers for said shiftable rollers and active only at one end of each of the same, the roll having a perforated journal end, a plunger stem included in said second-named means and separably engageable in the perforation in said journal end, and a take-up roller on said frame at one end thereof.
