IMPROVEM ENT IN Fl RE-BACKS.
` Specification formingp'art of Letters Patent No. 218,616, dated August 19, 1879; application iled April 12, 1879.
ings, and tothe letters of reference markedthereon.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in fire-backs for stoves and fire-places; and it consists in a novel construction of bricks and a metallic frame for surrounding the same, all as will be hereinafter fully described.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my improvement, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation in the accompanying drawings, which form part of my specification.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improvement in fire-backs. Fig.2 is a section through the line m of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the lire-brick.
The metallic frame is constructed of castiron, and is cast around the brick in the casting process, which will be readily understood by the skilled molder or the brick may be formed in the frame after it is cast, and subsequently burned in a suitable oven.
The brick E is constructed of ordinary fireclay, or of other suitable matter susceptible of resisting the action of fire, and is furnished with double-beveled edges, as clearly shown in Fig. 2, so that when the frame is cast around the bricks the frame A and cross-bars B or bar G (shown in dotted lines, Fig. 1) will have double beveled grooves `corresponding with the edges of the bricks. v
By constructing the bricks and casting the frame around them, as above described, a very strong and durable as well as reversible ireback is produced. l
I am aware that a iire-back composed of a series of bricks surrounded or set in a metal frame is old, and such I do not desire to claim, broadly, as my invention; but
I claim as my invention- The herein-described fire-back for stoves and fire-places, composed of bricks having doublebeveled edges and a surrounding frame having one or more cross-bars, said frame and bar or bars having grooves corresponding with the edges of the bricks, substantially as specied.
