The outer housing member 12 isprovided with a valve seat 3! which is disposed. at substantially right angles to the axisof the passage 28 and a second or opposite valve seat32 is provided on the opposite side of the housing I2 about the pasthe side opposite from that shown in Figure 3 to having a luminous outer endportion 5|.
sage or duct 36. A valve member comprising a valve head 33 and a gasket 34 which is secured to the head 33 by means of a washer 35 which is disposed on a reducedextension 36 is disposed in the chamber 26. The extension 36 .is upset to tightly secure the washer 35 against the outer or operating face of the gasket 34. The washer 35 is substantially smaller in diameter than the diameter of the passage 28 so that when the valve member comprising the head 33 and the'gasket 34 are in port closing position the washer 35 will loosely engage within the inner end of the passage 28. The valve head 33- has a stem 3! secured thereto and the stem 31 may if desired, be formed integrally with the head 33. The stem 31 loosely engages in aisocket 38 provided in a valve carrier 39. The stem 31 is held loosely within the socket 38 by means of a pin 40 which may have the opposite ends thereof upset so as to hold the pin 49 against endwise movement;
The-carrier 39 has a second socket 42 diametrically opposite from thesocket 38 in which a valve stem 43 loosely engages; The valve stem 43 is held against removal from the socket 42 by means of a pin 44 provided with upset opposite end portions to hold the pin 44 against endwise movement. The valve head 45 is carried by the stem 43 and a gasket 45 engages against the outer face of the head 45. A washer 41 is riveted or otherwise secured to the stem 43 as at 48 and the washer M is adapted whenthe carrier 39 is on engage within the passage 36 in the same manner as .the washer 35. v
The carrier 39 is moved to a port closing positionby means of an operating lever generally designated as 49 which comprises a handle 59 A substantially spherical member 52 is carried by the operator 49 and engages a socket or seat 53 formed in the outer wall 54 of the outer housing 12. The lever or operator 49 projects outwardly through the opening formed by the seat 53. An annular sealing member 55 is mounted in a recess 56 formed in the outer wall 54and a holding plate 571 engages'against the sealing member 55 and is tightly held against the sealing member 55 by means of a split clamping ring 58 which engages in an annular groove 59 formed in a boss 60 on the inner side of the wall 54. A stud 6| is formed integrally with the spherical member 52 and a reduced extension 62 is carried by the stud 6| and projects loosely into a socket or recess 63 formed in the valve carrier '39. In this manner rocking of the handle or operator 49 with the ball 52 as a fulcrum will swing the valve carrier 39 to the desired port closing position. 4 The valve carrier 39 is provided on its inner 1 side with a slide member or lug 64which engages in the arcuate guidefchannel 65 formed in the inner. side of the inner housing member ll as chamber 26 through the gui'de channel 65. By
means of the slide member 64 the carrier 38 is held against axial rotation with respect to the operator 49 but is permitted to have swinging movement with the operator 49 so as to close a selected port upon rocking of the operator 49.
The carrier 39 is held in the selected port closing position by means of a pair of springs 66. The springs 66 are disposed on opposite sides of the slide or guide member 64 and each spring 66 loosely engages about a sleeve orcylindrical member 6'! which at its outer end is provided with a right angularly disposed opening 68 within which a laterally projecting stud 69 carried by the carrier 39 engages. A rockable pin 10 is slidable in an opening ll formed in the sleeve 61 and the pin 18 is provided with a shoulder or plate 12 which is positioned intermediate the ends of this pin. Theinner end of the pin 19 is provided with a semi-spherical head or bearing member 13 which is adapted to engage in a concave socket 74 provided on the inner wall 15 of the inner housing member ll. The inner wall 15 is also provided about the socket T4 with a recess 16 within which the marginal portions'of the washer 12 may engage as shownin Figure 3; The spring 66 engages at one end against the washer I2 and at the other end agains'tla shoulder 11 formed on the inner end of a head 18 which is carried by the sleeve 61. The opening 68 engages through the head 18." There are two studs 69 on the carrier 39 which are disposed in opposite directionsand two springs 66 which engage a pair of sleeves '61 within which pins 16 slidably engage as shown in Figure 4. r 7 w The sockets 74 for the pins 16 are disposed in alignment with the axis of the .sphericalmember 52 so that when the operator 49 is rocked the springs 66 will be disposed in angular relation with respect to the axis of the spherical member 52 and thus hold the carrier 39 in the selected port closing position. A face plate 19 is secured to the outer face of the outer member 12 by means of screws or bolts 86 and preferably a supporting member BI is adapted to engage between the face plate 79 and the outer housing member [2. The plate 19 is provided with a substantially round opening 82 in the center thereof and laterally and oppositely projecting openings 83 extending 'from the opening 82 and within which the inner end of the handle 50 is adapted to en'- gagefas shown in Figure 3. The face plate 19 may be provided on one side thereof with indicia 84 and on the opposite side with indicia 85 which are co-related withthe intake ports I! and I8 so that the user of the device will be able to de-. termine with which source of supply the housing It! is in communication. Y
In the use and operation of this valve structure, the ports I? and 18 are adapted to be connected to a suitable source of fluid supply under pressure and the outlet port 23 is adapted to be connected to the desired element which is acted on by the fluid passing through the housing 19. It will be appreciated that if desired thedirection of the fluid through the housing may be reversed, that is, thetwo ports Hand 58 may be used as outlet ports andjthe port 23 used as an inlet port which'is connected to a source of fluid supply under pressure. In the present instance, the pipe 24' connects thehousing ID with apressure operated instrument struc ture receiving fluid pressure through one of the intake pipes 21 v0r 22.
Assuming that it is desired to receive the fluid 9 pressure from the intake pipe-22, the valve car- 7 5 rier is swung as shown in FigureS't'o the left by means of the operator '49 so that the valve structures 33 and 3d will-engage against the valve seat 3i. in this-position of the carrier, the intake port ll is cut on from communication with the common chamber 2 6 and the fluidpassages bled incorrectly.
the slide member 64 will hold the valve carrier iii, 1'39 and 36 connect the intake port l8 with the chamber so that the fluid can flow-from the intake p it through the pipe 23 into the chamber 25 and then out'through the outlet passage 35 and the outlet pipe 25. The springs t6 will yleldably hold the valve carrier 39 in the selected port closing position. a
In the event it is desired to change the source of fluid supply the handle or operator 69 is rocked in the opposite direction, the carrier 39 swinging to the right with the slide member 64 slidably engaging in the channel 65. The swinging movement of the carrier. 39 will bring thetwo' springs G6 on the opposite side of the axial center or fulcrum of the operator 49 so that the valve structure comprising the head 45 and the gasket 48 will be yieldably held against the Valve seat 32. During the rocking of the valve carrier 39 from one valve seat to the other, the pin will at its inner end '13 rock in the socket 14. This pin it will at all times be held in axialrelation with respect to the sleeve 64.
A valve structure of this kind is an exceedingly simple and practical valve structure which due to the manner of assembly cannot be assem- This is due tothe fact that 39 against axial rotation with respect to the operator i9 so that the two valve members carried by the valve carrier 39 will be in a proper position for engagement with the selected valve seat upon swinging of the carrier 39;. The two housing parts H and l2 are held against sliding movement relative to each other during the assembly thereof by means of the spotting pins which engage in the sockets l6 of the outer housing member.
