1 Claim.
This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in the general class of illumination more particularly to an illuminated license tag.
An important object of the invention is to provide an exhibitor of the illuminated type for not only illuminating automobile license plates but also advertising matter in conjunction therewith.
Other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawings- Figure 1 represents a front elevational view of the structure.
Fig. 2 is a rear elevational view. Figure 3 is a front elevational view with the perforated plates removed.
Figure 4 is a section on the line 4-4 of Figure 1. Figure 5 is a vertical sectional view on line 5-5, Figure 1. v
Figure 6 is a fragmentary enlarged sectional view on line 66 of Figure 3.
Figure 7 is an enlarged front elevational view of the annual plate shown in Figure 1.
Figure 8 represents a front elevational view of a plate corresponding to the plate shown in Figure '7 but stamped with the expiration date instead of the number of the year.
Referring to the drawings, wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 refers to the case which is made up of the rear wall 5, the top wall 1, the bottom wall 3 and the end walls 9 and ID. A horizontal partition II is provided in the case and the bottom 8 of the case is formed with openings therein which can be normally closed when the supplemental box I2 is removed. This lamp box i 2 is open at its top and is provided with lugs I3 at its ends whereby the box can be secured with axiditional screws I! to the bottom of the case 5.
A frame member l5 extends inwardly and upwardly as at I6 to define a frame for the reception of the annually issued plate I] or the plate i8 shown .in Figure 8.
A hood I9 is secured to the top of the case 5 by screws 20 and supports the socket 2| from which depends the electric bulb 22. The bulb 22 depends into the compartment 23 and light in this compartment can pass through openings in the partition H as denoted by the numeral 24 to the compartment 25, and from the compartment 25 through openings in the bottom 8 to the lamp box l2 over which can be disposed the plate 26 stamped to advertise a hotel or other enterprise.
Over the compartment 25 can be disposed another plate 21, stamped to advertise another entel-prise, and over the compartment 23 is disposed the perforated plate 28 which will serve as the permanent license tag or plate having one corner portion cut away to accommodate the frame l5 and the annually issued plate II.
It will be observed, that at the outer edge portion of each of the compartments and the box I2 a perimeter rib 29 is provided against which corresponding plate 28, 21 or 26 rests and this is formed at its corners and intermediate points with ears 30 which are provided with threaded openings for receiving the screws 3| which pass through the plates. I
A strap member 32 has its end portion bent forwardly or toward the back wall 6 of the case 5 and attached thereto and this strap 32 is provided with longitudinally extending slots 33 for receiving the securing means of a bracket intended for supporting the structure. A supplemental strap 34 extends vertically intersecting the intermediate portion of the strap 32 and this strap 34 has its ends bent toward the wall 6 and secured to the wall and is provided with longitudinal slots 35-35.
It can be seen that panes of translucent'material 36 can be disposed at the inside of each of the plates 28, 21 and 28.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is- A license plate holder comprising a casing open at its front and having an inwardly extending flange slightly spaced from said front for forming a shoulder for receiving a license-plate and a small frame in an upper corner of the casing, said frame including a bar paralleling a part of the top of the casing and spaced below the same and having one end connected with an end of the casing and a vertical bar extending upwardly from the other end of the first-mentioned bar and connecting with a portion of the top of the casing, the two bars being located in the front of the casing and each bar having an inwardly extending flange extending into the space formed by the said frame, for forming'a shoulder for a small plate located in the frame, the license plate having a recess in an upper corner thereof for receiving the frame and a single lamp in the casing for illuminating the licenseplate and the small plate in the frame.
