3 Claims. (Cl. 155182) The principal object of the instant invention in the nature of an automobile seat, davenport is the provision of an attachment for seats in or other similar piece of furniture. In the illusthe nature of upholstered chairs, davenports, car trated instance, this seat comprises a back 8 seats and the like, which attachment is specially and a bottom It. The attachment per se rests 5L constructed to provide a ventilated space beupon the seat as illustrated in Figs. 1 d 5 tween the back of the user and the upholstered nd comp ses a base l2 Which y b ade f portion of the seat against which the user would any suitable seat material, such as metal, plynormally rest. In
the preferred embodiment of the invention, this bumper is a channel made of soft rubber or similar resilient material that has a rounded outer surface which reduces the wear on seat I 0 to a minimum.
In the form of the invention illustrated in Fig. 5, this bumper 32 is in the nature of a flap 34 that extends around the edge of base I2 and outwardly therefrom. Flap 3% may be of fabric or some suitable material such as matting that would be cooler than the normal fabric forming the upholstery of seat l0.
It is obvious from the foregoing that an at- 15 tachment embodying this invention may be used with any upholstered seat to an advantage. The size of the attachment may be altered to suit conditions and the number of strips 24 as well as their width may be determined by the use to which the attachment is to be put. It will also be clear to one skilled in the art that seat attachments having physical characteristics other than that shown in the drawing might be made without departing from the spirit of the inven- 25 tion or scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
1- A seat attachment of the character de- 30 scribed comprising a rigid base; a bracket hingedly mounted on the base along each of two opposite edges of the base and extending laterally from one side thereof; and a plurality of flexible strips joining the brackets at their outer- 35 most portions and held in spaced relation to the base thereby, said strips each being looped around each bracket and extended around the other side of the base and in engagement therewith,
the ends of said strips being connected together for the purpose specified, said base having an apron along one edge thereof for engaging the horizontal surface of the seat.
2. A seat attachment of the character described comprising a rigid base; a bracket hingedly mounted on the base along each of two opposite edges of the base and extending laterally from one side thereof; and a plurality of flexible strips joining the brackets at their outermost portions and held in spaced relation to the base thereby, each of said strips being provided with an opening therethrough adjacent to each bracket, the portions of the strips at the brackets being looped around the brackets and passed through said openings, said strips being extended around the other side of the base and in engagement therewith, the ends of said strips being connected together.
3. A seat attachment of the character described comprising a rigid base; a resilient. rod on one side of the base along each of two opposite edges respectively thereof, said rod having a major portion of its length spaced from the face of said base; a substantially U-shaped bracket having eyes formed on the ends thereof to receive the said rod, carried by each rod respectively; a plurality of flexible strips joining the bights of said U-shaped brackets and extending across and engaging the other side of said base, said strips having their ends connected together; and means at the ends of said strips for detachably holding the same together, each strip being looped around one of the said bights of the U-shaped brackets to preclude accidental swinging thereof about the rods supporting the brackets.
