2 claims. (o1. 229-31) Our invention relates to a carton made of cardboard or the like for holding popcorn, salads, and a number of other commodities.

Among the objects of our invention is to create a carton having reinforced portions and therefore greater strength; to provide a carton adapted to stand upright without the need of extraneous devices; to supply a carton which is substantially leakproof and particularly are unweakened at points of unusual wear and therefore are stronger and leak proof. When it is desired to have a closed top we may provide a larger blank having on its face an interrupted score 44 at the upper ends of sections I8, I9, 20, 2| and 22. Where it is desired to have a simple closure instead of a set in top formation as above described, the rib 46 may be omitted. In this type of closure two or more of the aps may have cut out portions and tongues for inter-engagement so as to retain the top in closed position.

Having thus described our invention, claim:

1. A carton formed of a single blank composing a body portion having spaced longitudinal scores to form the sidewalls of the carton, one of the side walls formed by overlapping opposite edges of the body member, a rib portion formed by a pair of spaced lateral scores adjacent one end of the body member, said rib portion folded so as to Contact the side walls on the inside of the carton, that portion of the rib on the top portion of the overlapping side wall being folded under the portion of the rib on the bottom portion of the underlapping side wall so as to provide a sealed leak proof connection, said overlapping portions of the side walls held together by adhesive means, and a closure portion divided into a plurality of flaps by spaced longitudinal slits, said naps adapted to fold inwardly to form a closed end for said carton.

2. In a carton formed of a single blank, said blank having an interrupted lateral score', o. plurality of longitudinal scores extending from the upper edge of the blank and ending short of the lateral score, said lateral score interrupted short of each longitudinal score so as to leave unweakened po'rtions between the scores so that when the blank is folded on the scores to form the side walls of the carton, holes caused by folding on the meeting places of scores are prevented.
