J. W. CARTER. Ink-Bottle.
No...,2 17,926. Patented-July 29, I879.

IMPROVEMENT IN INK-BOTTLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 217,926, dated July 29, 1879 application filed May 22, 1879.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN W. CARTER, of Boston, county of Suffolk, State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Ink- Bott-les, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification.
This invention relates to ink-bottles, and has for its object the formation, with a bottle having an open mouth and neck, of a pen-holding projection or rest blown as an integral part of the bottle, the projection being at or below the neck of the bottle, substantially as herein described.
Figure 1 represents, in side elevation, an inkbottle embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 a top view thereof.
My invention is applicable only to that kind of ink-bottle which has a base, a, a neck, I), and at the top of the neck-it also being the top of the bottle-an open mouth, 0, for the reception of a cork.
Between the mouth of the bottle, and at or near its neck, but above the base a, is a penholding projection, d, which is blown or formed as part of the bottle during its manufacture, in molds, as usual in bottle-making. This projecting collar at or near the bottle-neck strengthens the bottle, affords a good and serviceable pen rack or holder, and does not materially add to the cost of the bottle.
I do not broadly claim a pen-holdin g portion at the top of a self-feeding inkstand.
The projection or shelf may be slightly concaved at top,- if desired, as in Fig. 1.
I claim- As an improved article of manufacture, the described ink-bottle, having formed therewith, at or near its neck, a pen-rack, shelf, or projection, d, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereofl have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN W. CARTER.
