'I'his application is made under the act of March 3, 1883, as amended by the act oi April 30, 1928, andpthe invention herein described and claimed, ifr patented, may be manufacturedand used by or for the Government of the United States of America for governmental purposes without the payment to us of any royalty thereon.
We hereby dedicate the invention herein described to the free use of the People in the territory of the United States to take eiiecton the granting of a patent to us.
This invention relates to stereoscopes and is more particularly concerned with the provision of a stereoscope folded into a compact space.

Referring with more partlcularity to the drawing, in which like mnnerals designate like parts, the device comprises a horizontal beam 5, the ends of which are inclined upwardly and inwardly at substantially Near the ends o! said beam horizontal slots 6, 6 are provided. A pair of brackets' 1, 1 are slldably engaged with said slots 6, 6, respectively, by means oi screws l, 8 and wing nuts 9, 9, said wing nuts permitting the brackets 1, 1 to be secured in position with respect to the slots 8, 6. Each oi said brackets 1, 1 is provided with flanges I 0, III, respectively, to which are secured a pair of mirrors I I, II, respectively, said mirrors facing each other and so disposed as 'to horizontally reiiect images from the table plane, upon which the instrument is adapted to rest. A pair of legs or stanchions I2, I2, one for each of the ilanges Il, Il, is secured to which, when not in use, can be.

Between the ends of the beam 5 a horizontal bracket I5 is secured extending between the mirrors II, II. On the end of said bracket I5 an eye piece is iixed, said eye piece consisting of a pair 10 of mirrors I6, IB, Ieach one being parallel to one of said mirrors II, II, substantially as shown. The mirrors I6, I 6 are spaced an optimum distance apart to accommodate the eyes of the user. The bracket I5 is provided with a concave surface l5 I1 between the mirrors I6, -IB to enable the user to center his eyes over the mirrors without pressing his nose against the bracket I5.
Having thus described our invention, we, claim:
A foldable stereoscope comprising a horizontal 20 beam, said beam having its ends inclined inwardly and upwardly and having a horizontal slot at each end thereof; a pair of brackets. one for each end, pivdtally and slldably engaged with its corresponding slot in said beam. said 25 brackets being anged so as to abut the inclined ends of said beam when said brackets are in their extreme outward positions; a pair oi' mirrors, each secured to one oi said brackets and facing each other; mirrors; a telescopable base support secured to the bottom of each of said stanchions: a horizontal bracket secured to said beam and centered between the ends thereof: and a pair of spaced eye piece mirrors secured to said horizontal 36 bracket, each one of said eye piece mirrors being substantially parallel to one oi' said rst mentioned mirrors.' the space between said minors being concave.
