Description
Oct. 31, 1939. s. POTSTADA SLIGE SEPARATOR FDR KNIVES Filed April 15, 1955 INVENTOR. George Po iszadq BY a i ATTORNEY.
Patented Oct. 31, 1939 s'rArs errnr Fran This'invention relates to slice separator -for knives, and more particularly to an attachment to knives for slicing food products such as butter, cheese and the like. A
5. The present difiiculty with slicing with knives is that the slices tend to stick to the knife blade, which is very annoying and prevents making neat slices, to say nothing of the loss of time used in scraping theslices off the knife.
Among the objects of my invention, one is to provide means in connection with a slicing knife to prevent the slices from sticking to the blade by separating the slices from the blade.
Another object is to provide a raised portion on the slicing blade with more or less rounded contact with the slice to separate it and prevent its sticking to the blade.
Another object is to provide an attachable device to a slicing knife blade to forma raised portion spaced from the cutting edge and arranged longitudinally of the blade.
Another object is to provide a device of the kind having a spring clamp action on the slicing blade.
Another object of the invention is to provide a slicing knife having a punched out raised portion longitudinally of the blade, and spaced from the edge thereof.
Another object is to provide a device of the kind constructed of wire in which the diameter forms the raised portion on the blade.
Another object is to make a device of this kind of sheet metal having some resiliency and of such shape as to clamp the knife blade.
Another object is to provide an attachable device to a slicing blade that may be used for peeling vegetables or making very thin slices thereof.
Other objects of the invention will appear to those skilled in the art to which it appertains as the description progresses.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing in which the same portion has the same numeral throughout the several views and of which there may be modifications.
Figure l is a view of an embodiment of the device which is arranged as an attachment for a slicing knife.
Figure 2 is a view of the other side of the device applied to a slicing knife blade.
Figureil is a top edge View of the attachment.
Figure 4 is an enlarged sectional view on line 4- 3 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a view of the device showing the slicing and separating operation.
Figure 6 is a view of a modified form of the device.
Figure '7 is a sectional view on line ll of Figure 6.
Figure 8 shows another modified form of the device applied to a knife blade.
Figure 9 shows another modified form of the device.
Figure 10 is'a section on line l9lfl of Figure 9.
Figure 11 is a top edge View of the attachment shown in Figure 9.
The numeral l indicates a sheet metal body having the clamp members 2 and 3 doubled back on the body member to form means to grip a knife blade.
Formed in the body member is the longitudinally positioned raised portion 4i spaced a suitable distance from the cutting edge 5 of the blade 6 when the device is in place on the knife.
In the modified form shown in Figure 6 the clamp members i and 8 are formed on the other side of the body member so as to grip the back edge of the knife as shown at 9.
The form of the device shown in Figure 8 is the same as that shown in Figure 6 with the addition of the projecting member Ill which may be pressed down by the thumb to reinforce the friction of the clamp members.
In the modified form shown in Figures 9, 10 and 11 the device is made of wire and the longitudinal member 2!] forms the raised portion, and the clamp members 2| and 22 are bent back and forth portions of the same wire. The wire 25 has a slight bend toward the blade so that when in place on the blade the tension is increased.
In fact all forms of the device have or may have the same bends toward the blade to increase the tension of the clamps.
Having thus described my invention what I desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows but modifications may be had in carrying out the invention as shown in the accompanying drawing and the particularly described form thereof within the purview of the annexed claims.
I claim:
1. A slice separator for mounting on a knife blade and comprising a detachable member having a wire adapted to lie against the side of the blade longitudinally thereof between the edge and back of said blade, and clamp members formed on the ends of said wire to clamp on said blade.
2. A slice separator for mounting on a fiat knife blade and comprising a detachable element having an elongated member of less width than the blade adapted to rest against a side of the knife blade between its cutting edge and back to extend transversely from the blade for separating a slice from the blade thereat, and terminal means of the element resiliently engageable with the knife blade at the opposite side thereof to engage the separator member against the first blade side to fix the element on the blade with the separator member in operative position.
3. A slice separator for mounting on a flat knife blade and comprising a detachable element having an elongated slice-separating central member adapted to rest against and along a face of the knife blade and between its cutting edge and back in spaced parallel relation to said cutting edge, and terminal members of the element extending laterally from the central member and around the same blade edge to resiliently engage the other blade face opposite the central member for resiliently gripping the knife blade to fix the element on the blade with the separator member in operative position.
4. A slice separator for mounting on a fiat knife blade and comprising a detachable element formed of resilient material and having an elongated slice-separating central member for engagement along and against a face of the knife blade between its cutting edge and back and bowed toward its knife-engaging side, and terminal members of the element for gripping the knife blade transversely thereof to fix the element on the knife blade while straightening out said central member against the blade.
5. A slice separator for mounting on a fiat knife blade and comprising a detachable element of resilient material having an elongated member adapted to rest against and longitudinally along a side of the knife blade between its cutting edge and back edge to extend transversely from the blade for separating a slice from the blade thereat, and terminal members of the element extending laterally from the first member and around the same blade edge to resiliently contact the other blade side opposite the first member as the sole means to mount the element on the blade in operative relation thereto.
6. A slice separator for mounting on a fiat knife blade and comprising a detachable element having an elongated member adapted to rest against and longitudinally along a side of the knife blade between its cutting edge and back edge to'extend transversely from the blade for separating a slice from the blade thereat, and terminal members of the element extending laterally from the first member and around the cutting edge of the blade to contact said edge and resiliently engage the other blade side opposite the first member for retaining the element in fixedly mounted position on the blade.
