Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES BROWN, OE VERMONT, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN HOG-CHOLERA COMPOUNDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 217,772, dated July 2-2, 1879; application filed November 30, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OHARLEs BROWN, of Vermont, in the county of Fulton and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Compound for Cure of Hog-Cholera; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention is an improvement in the medicinal compounds for cure of hog-cholera.
The compound is composed of slakcd or dry lime, chloride of sodium, or common salt, sulphur, and pulverized charcoal. These four in gredients are employed in the following proportions: lime, one and one-half pound, (1% lb.;) salt, one pound, (1 lb.;) sulphur, one pound, (1 ll).;) charcoal, two ounces, (2 oz.) Said sub stances are pulverized and thoroughly mixed together when dry, and the resulting compound is put up in tin boxes or other suitable packages for use and sale.
The compound is a safe, cheap, easily-administered, and efficient remedy for hogcholera. It is administered dry or by mixing it with swill or slops immediately upon the attack or illness coming on.
For a hog weighing about one hundred and pound may be given for a dose. For larger hogs the dose may beincreascd, and for smaller ones decreased proportionately.
Give one dose every day for three days, and then, if the hogis better, omit themedicine for one or two days if not, continue its administratiou.
If there is a tendency to very frequent fecal evacuation, give smaller doses at more frequent intervals.
I am aware that salt, sulphur, and charcoal have been administered to swine for the prevention or cure of disease, and I do not claim the use of such ingredients for such purpose.
What I claim isv The compound for treatment of hog-cholera, consisting of lime, sulphur, salt, and charcoal, in the proportions specified.
CHARLES BRO WN.
