7 Claims.

This invention relates to a display device, and more particularly to a device adapted to display stockings for feminine use.

One feature of this invention is that it provides a very effective display of hose; another feature of this invention is that the hose displayed thereon can be readily changed; a further feature of this invention is that it provides one element in the form of a leg with the knee bent, which not only renders the display more pleasing to the eye but also demonstrates the stretch and shaping of the stocking over the knee; yet another feature of this invention is that one of the leg-shaped elements is removably supported in an improved manner upon the base, and the other element removably supported by the first; other features and advantages of this invention will be apparent from the following specication and the drawing, in which:

Fig. 1 is a perspective View of a device embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a View, partly in vertical section, of the same device; Fig. 3 is a sectional plan View along the line 3 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a fragmentary sectional view along the line 4 of Fig. 2.

In the particular embodiment of the invention illustrated herewith the base I0 comprises a at disc of metal, preferably with an aluminum or chromium finish to provide a pleasing appearance. Somewhat eccentrically placed on the disc base, and rigidly fastened thereto, is a slippershaped supporting member II. This member may be of aluminum, and is here disclosed, as may be seen from the drawing, in the form of a high-heeled slipper adapted to expose the toes of the foot therein. The strap-like member I2 at the vamp cooperates with the sole portion` of the slipper to form a socket adapted to receive the forward or toe portion of a foot. The open thereof upwardly projecting portion I3.

The parts of the display device adapted to be supported by the base and slipper-shaped member thereon are two leg-shaped elements l5 and i6. The element l 5 is formed to resemble a feminine leg with the knee straight, as may be best seen in Fig. 1. The foot portion of the element I5 is shaped to conform to the slipper-shaped member. The toe portion of the foot is adapted to be received by the socket portion of the supporting member, while the remainder of the foot conforms to and rests on the sole and heel portion. The heel portion of the foot, as may be best seen in Figs. 2 and 4, has therein a recess or heel portion of the slipper has in the center 1938', Serial No. 236,127

Il adapted to receive and engage the projection I3 The leg-shaped elements are hollow throughout, and formed of a resilient material, preferably a rubber composition. The foot portion of the leg-shaped element I5 is so formed with respect to the slipper-shaped supporting member that, when the stocking is in place thereover, it makes a tight iit with the supporting member. That is, the engagement of the toe portion of the foot with the socket, and of the recess in the heel with the projection I3, is sufliciently tight to provide good frictional retention.

The second leg-shaped element I 6 is formed to represent a feminine leg with the knee bent quite far back. The foot portion is shaped to conform to a slipper-shaped member I8. which member slips on over the toe portion of the foot sufliciently tightly to be frictionally maintained there, in order that the slipper may be supported by the leg element. The hollow thigh portions of the leg elements are provided with removable closures I9 and 2l), enabling convenient access to the interior thereof. rIhe formation of the leg elements is such that the thigh of the element I 5 is substantially vertical, whereas that of the element IS is substantially horizontal, as may be best seen in Fig. 2. Fastening means are provided for joining the two thigh portions together, so that the leg element IB is supported, through such fastening means7 by the leg element I5, which is in turn supported by the base and slipper-shaped member thereon. The fastening means is here disclosed as four studs 2l cooperating with thumb nuts 22. The studs pass through openings in the two thighs and, when the thumb nuts are drawn up tight, lock the leg elements together.

The display device is one which can be readily assembled and disassembled. This is important, not only because it enables convenient shipping or transportation thereof; but more particularly because it enables ready changing of the hose disfplayed by the device. Assuming the device to be as illustrated in the drawing, the following procedure would be followed to change to a new shade or style of hose. The leg element I5 would be removed from the slipper-shaped supporting member II, and the slipper I8 removed from the foot of the element I6. The hose on the two leg elements could then be removed, and a new pair slipped on. In this latter regard, it will be noted that the back portion of the calf, immediately adjacent the knee, is cut away as at 23 in the leg element I6. 'Ihis enables the stocking to be worked up over the knee without damaging it,

and allows the stocking to properly conform to and shape over the knee without any objectionable wrinkles or excessive stretching. When the new hose are in position it is only necessary to slip the toe portions of the element l5 into the socket of the supporting member and then force the heel down into place so that the projection I3 lies within the recess H. In this latter regard, if a little slack is left in the heel of the stocking it will not be torn or ripped, but will adapt itself to the form of the recess without damage. The slipper i8 can, of course, be replaced on its foot at any time after the stocking has been put on the leg element I6.

While I have shown and described certain embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that it is capable of many modifications. Changes, therefore, in the construction and arrangement may be made without departing from the spirit and scope 0f the invention as disclosed in the appended claims, in which it is my intention to claim all novelty inherent in my invention as broadly as permissible, in View of the prior art.

I claim:

1. A device of the character described, including: a base; a slipper-shaped member on said base; and an element formed to resemble a human feminine leg and foot, said element adapted to have the foot portion thereof removably inserted in said member to be supported thereby.

2. A display device of the character described, including: a base; a slipper-shaped member rigidly mounted on said base having a projection in the heel portion thereof, the toe portion thereof forming a socket; and an element formed to resemble a human feminine leg and foot, the foot portion of said element being adapted to have the toe portion thereof received by said socket and having a recess in the heel thereof adapted to receive said projection, the element being maintained in upright position solely by its engagement with the member.

3. A device of the character claimed in claim 2, wherein said element is formed of resilient material and is adapted to make tight engagement with said socket and projection.

4. A device of the character claimed in claim 2, wherein said element supports a second element also formed to resemble a human feminine leg and foot.

5. A display device of the character described, including: a base; an element formed to resemble a human leg with the knee straight, said element being adapted to be supported in vertical position by said base; a second element formed to resemble a human leg with the knee bent, the knee portion being forward of and the thigh and ankle portions adjacent the first mentioned element; and means for fastening together the thigh portions of said elements, whereby said second element is supported solely by said rsl; element.

6. A device of the character claimed in claim 5, wherein the thigh portions of said elements are hollow and provided with removable closures to enable access to said fastening means.

'7. A device of the character claimed in claim 5, wherein the calf portion of said second element is cut away adjacent the knee.
