ALEXANDER KERR, OF MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF HIS RIGHT TO LYON SILVERMAN, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN MEANS FOR RENDERING VALVE-SPINDLES STEAM-TIGHT.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 217,540, dated July 15, 1879 application filed November 13, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER KERR, of the city and district of Montreal, Province of Quebec, Canada, machinist, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Means for Rendering ValveSpindles Steam-Tight; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
This invention has reference to improvementson the invention set forth in the patent granted to Hollowell and Barker, November 28, 1865, and numbered 51,177, for the purpose of rendering the face of the valve therein shown capable of standing the wear upon it without cutting and consequent leakage.
In the drawings hereunto annexed similar letters of reference indicate like parts, and Figure 1 is a longitudinal vertical central section of a globe-valve embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail of the same in section.
In this case the invention is substantially like the aforesaid patented onein all its parts, except as hereinafter explained. It is, indeed, shown in combination with what is called a Peet valve, but that makes no material difference.
The exception above mentioned consists in the construction of the valve-face H. The face on the spindle F is of concave form and situated as shown, and the seat on the neck E is correspondingly convex, thus forming an inner corner of the seat bedding into the inner angle at the neck of the spindle, and an outer corner of the spindle bedding into the corner formed on the shell E, as shown by Figs. 1 and 2.
