Another object of the invention is to provide a novel valve construction for deep well pump.
Another object of the invention is to provide a novel head member for a deep well pump.
Other objects and the advantages of my invention will be apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation, partly in section, showing my improved pump;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary section taken on line 22 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is a section taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 5 is a section taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 3;
Fig. 6 is a section taken on line 6-6 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 7 is a section taken on line '|-l of Fig. 3;
Fig. 8 is a section taken on line 8-8 of Fig. 3; and
Fig. 9 is a section taken on line 99 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings by reference characters I have indicated my improved pump generally at In. As shown the pump in includes a head member I! and a bottom member 12. The lower portion of the head I l is externally threadedas at I3 and the upper portion of the bottom member I2 is similarly threaded as at I l.
An outer barrel l5 connects the head I l and the bottom member 12 and adjacent its upper end is internally threaded as at I5 to engage the threads l3 of the head and adjacent its lower end is internally threaded as at ii to engage the threads I4 of the bottom member.
. The bottom member l2 has a recess l8 therein in which a standard type of standing valve mechanism i9 is positioned. The standing valve shown includes a cup-shaped body portion 21! having an aperture 2| in the bottom 22 thereof with a tapered valve seat 23 surrounding the upper portion of the aperture. The body 20 has a plurality of depending legs 24 thereon which are connected by a lower transverse member 25 and an intermediate transverse member 26. (See Fig. 8.) A perforated metal screen 21 surrounds the legs 24 and is held in place by a cap member 28 which is secured to the lower member 25 by a screw 29.
A valve head 30 positioned in the body 20 is adapted to control the passage of fluid through the aperture 21. pending valve stem 31! which extends through an aperture 32 in the member 26 and has a washer S3 thereon adjacent its lower end. Surrounding the valve stem 3i between the rib 26 and the washer 33 a coiled spring 34 is provided which resiliently urges the valve head 35 into engagement with the valve seat 23.
Positioned in the barrel I5 above the bottom member l2 I provide a base member 35. As shown the base member 35 comprises an externally threaded outer ring 36 and a spaced inner ring 31 connected to the outer'ring by a plurality of lugs 38. (See Fig. '7.) The threads of the outer ring 36 engage the threads ll of the outer barrel i5 and the bottom member I2 acts as a lock nut for the base member.
The upper face of the base member 35 is bevelled as indicated at 39 to form a valve seat. The inner ring 31 has a coaxial recess 40 therein which opens through the upper face thereof.
The head ll includes a reduced coaxial inner sleeve 4! which is connected intermediate its length to the body by a pair of opposed hollow boss portions 52. Each of the hollow bosses has a transverse partition 43 therein having an aperture M therein and a tapered valve seat 45 surrounding the aperture on the inward face of the partition; A spider member 46 which includes an apertured boss 5! is positioned in each of the bosses 42 against the outer face of the partition 53. (See Fig. 9.) Positioned adjacent the inner face of the partitions 43 I provide a valve member 48 which includes an outwardly extending valve stem 49. The valve stem 49 extends through the apertured boss ll of the spider 46 and has a pin retained Washer 50 thereon. Surrounding the valve stem 49 between the spider boss 51 and the washer 50 I provide a coiled spring 51 which resiliently urges the valve 48 into engagement with its associated seat 45.
Below the bosses 42 the inner sleeve 4| has a recess 52 therein opening through the bottom thereof. The upper end of an inner barrel 53 is positioned in the sleeve recess 52 and the lower end of the barrel 53 is positioned in the recess 40 of the base member 35;
Surrounding the inner barrel 53 adjacent the base member 35 I provide a valve device 54. As shown the device- 54 includes a metal body portion 55 and a depending rubber valve head 56 The valve 30 includes a de- 5 the lower face of which is tapered to match the taper 39 of the base member 35. The rubber valve head 55 is shown as secured to the metal body 55 by having a portion thereof vulcanized in a circular dovetailed groove 51 in the body 55.
Normally the weight of the device 50 retains the tapered face of the rubber valve head 56 in engagement with the tapered face 39 of the base member 35 to thereby restrict passageway from within the outer barrel l5 through the device 35 into the bottom member [2.
Above the hollow bosses 42 of the head H the inner sleeve 4| has a threaded recess 58 therein in which I provide a plug member 59. As shown the plug member 59 includes an externally threaded outer ring 60 and a reduced inner ring 6| connected to the outer ring by a plurality of spaced lugs 62. (See Fig. 6.) The inner ring 6i includes an upwardly extending hub portion 63 having an aperture 54 therein and being externally threaded adjacent its upper end as at 55. The upper face of the plug member 59 is concavely tapered as at 66 to form a valve seat.
Surrounding the hub portion 53 adjacent the concave face 66 I providea valve device t'i. As shown the valve device 61 is similar to the valve device 54 and includes a metal body portion 58 and a depending rubber valve head 69. The lower face of the rubber valve head 69 is tapered to match the taper 66 of the plug member 59. The rubber valve head 69 is shown as secured to the metal body 58 by having a portion thereof vulcanized in a circular dovetailed groove "it in the body 53. Normally the weight of the device 53' retains the rubber valve head 59 in engagement with the tapered face 56 of the plug device 59 to restrict passage downward through the device 59 into the sleeve 4|.
Positioned in the aperture 54 of the hub portion 63 of the plug device 59 I provide a piston rod 'II which extends downwardly into the inner barrel 53 where it includes a threaded portion 12. Mounted on the threaded portion I show a suitable double acting piston 73 which includes a pair of upwardly acting packing members 74 and a pair of downwardly acting packing members 15. The piston 73 further includes a lower clamping nut 15 and an upper head nut 11. The head nut 17 includes a plurality of upwardly extending spaced radial ribs 73. (See Fig. 5.) When the piston 13 is raised until the head nut 11 engages the plug device 59 the head nut ribs 18 are adapted to enter similar grooves 79 in the lower face of the plug member so that by rotating the piston rod H the plug device 59 can be unscrewed from the sleeve 4|.
A suitable packing gland 80 surrounds the piston rod II and engages the threads 65 of the plug device 59 to prevent leakage through the aperture 64 into the sleeve 4|.
The upper end of the piston rod H is threaded as at 8i for engagement with a combination sucker rod guide and coupler device 82. The coupler device as shown includes a plurality of radially extending ribs 83 having vertical wing portions 84 thereon. The coupler device 82 as shown connects the piston rod il to a length of sucker rod 85 and as many sucker rod lengths may be similarly connected together as required to reach the surface.
A water conducting tubing 86 is secured to the head member I l by a threaded coupling member 81 which engages threads 88 provided adjacent the upper end of the head ll.
When my improved pump device i0 is operatively installed in a well and the piston 13 is moved upward the partial vacuum thus created in the inner barrel 53 below the piston opens the standing valve 30 whereupon Water enters the bottom member I2 and the inner barrel 53. At the same time water in the inner barrel 53 above the piston 13 unseats the valve device 61 and flows through the plug device 59 into the tubing 86. As the piston 13 moves downward the valve device closes and the standing valve 30 closes whereupon the pressure of the water in the inner barrel unseats the valve device 54 whereupon water flows through the base device 35 into the outer barrel l5 and thence upward into the tubing 85. Furthermore when the piston 73 moves downward the partial vacuum created in the inner barrel 53 above the piston causes the valves 48 to open whereupon water is drawn into the inner barrel 53 above the piston.
Thus it will be seen that upon each up stroke and each down stroke of the piston water is drawn into the pump and forced upward through the tubing 86 thereby providing a steady flow of water during the time the pump operates.
From the foregoing description it will be apparent that I have provided a novel pump device which is simple in construction and highly efiicient in use.
