This invention relates to a sealing and dispensing cap.
An object of the invention is the construction of a cap and its cooperating parts in such man- 11 ner as will cause the cap to be efciently seated on the container, for the purpose of dispensing liquids.
Another object of the invention is the construction of a container, provided with a pecu- 'fliar neck, a cap on said neck, and a spring device located within the cap and engaging the neck of the co-ntainer, whereby the cap is efciently retained on the neck but is permitted to rotate for dispensing liquids from the container.
A still further object of the invention is the construction of a novel and eflicient spring device, interposed between the neck of a container and a cap, for efficiently retaining the cap on the neck in an operable position.
Another object of the invention is the construction of a cap and its cooperating parts, on the neck of a container, the entire device being highly efficient and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
25.` With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention comprises certain novel construc tions, combinations and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and more par- 3Qi.1;icu1ar1y pointed out in the appended claims.

Figure 8 is a perspective view of another embodiment of the spring device.
Referring to the drawing by numerals, I designates a bottle or container, which is provided with a neck 2; said neck 2 has a closed top 3. The top of the container has an annular cap seat 4; this cap seat 4 is formed by bevelling the top 3.
In the top 3 of the container is an outlet 5. This outlet 5 opens upon the cap seat 4. The neck 2 5 is annularly bevelled at 6. The upper end of the bevelled portion 6 terminates in a horizontal shoulder 1.
A rotatable cap 8 is placed upon the bottle neck 2. This cap 8 is provided with an outlet 8 l which is adapted to register with outlet 5, whereby liquid can be dispensed from the container I. The cap 8 ts snugly against the cap seat 4, and is provided on its lower end with an inwardly extending flange I0. 'Ihis flange I0 is provided 15- preferably with three small slots I I, for the purpose hereinafter described. The ange I0 iitsV tightly against the neck 2, Fig. 5.
A spring device I2 is provided for securing the cap on the container. This spring device I2 20` comprises a fiat, split, annular body I3; said body I3 has an upstanding sharp lip I4 at one end. The body I3 is also provided with depending integral spring iingers I5. These ngers are separately cut from the body the spring device I2 with the other parts of the invention, the spring device is slid down over top 3 of the container I, until the body I3 rests against shoulder 'I (Fig. 5). Then the cap 8 is passed down over the top 3, with ngers I5 riding 3051 inthe slots I I. Then the cap is in the position shown in Fig. 5, the lower ends of the ngers I5 will be resting upon ange I0, and against the inner face of the cap 8. The upwardly extending lip I4 very tightly engages shoulder l, so much 35 so that the lip apparently has a digging action on the shoulder, whereby the spring device is retained in a fixed position upon the bottle neck, against rotation, notwithstanding the cap 8 can be rotated satisfactorily by the operator.
In the embodiment shown in Figure 8, the spring device I2a is provided with a verticallypositioned annular body I 3a. From this body I3a are formed the downwardly extending spring fingers I5a, which operate in the same manner 45 as described for fingers I5 of the spring device I2. On the annular body I3a is also formed an upstanding sharpened lip I4a., which functions similar to lip I4 of the spring device I2.
The spring devices shown in Figures 6 and 8 50 are formed from suitable spring metal. Each device is sprung upon the bottle neck, assuming the position as illustrated in Figures 2 and 5.
It is to be noted, Figs. 2 and 4, that the slots II, in flange I8, do not extend the width of the 55 I3. To assemble 25 flan'ge. Therefore, when a spring device is positioned on the bottle neck there is no opportunity for the iingers to pass out thru these slots; in other words, after assembling the parts they are permanently held in position, with the cap tting snugly upon the container or body.
While I have described the preferred embodiments of my invention and illustrated the same in the accompanying drawing, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates during the extensive manufacture of the same and I, therefore, reserve the right to make such alterations or changes as shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. In a device of the class described, the combination of a container provided with a neck, said neck provided with a shoulder, a rotatable cap on said neck, said cap provided with a iiange, said flange provided with slots, a spring device between said neck and said rotatable cap, said spring device bearing against said shoulder, said spring device provided with depending spring fingers, and said spring fingers being adapted to pass through said slots while said cap is being positioned upon said neck, with the outer ends of the fingers resting against said iiange, when the cap and neck are assembled.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination of a container provided with a neck, a rotatable cap on said neck, a spring device between said neck and cap and holding said cap in place on said neck, said spring device comprising an annular split body engaging a portion of said neck,said body provided near one end with an upstanding sharp lip engaging said neck, and said body provided intermediate its ends with a plurality of depending spring lingers engaging a portion of said cap.

In a device of the class described, the combination of a container provided with a neck, said neck provided with a closed top, said closed top provided on its side with an outlet, said closed top provided with an annular bevelled cap seat and with a horizontal shoulder under said cap seat, a rotatable cap on said neck and resting against said closed top and said cap seat, said cap provided with an outlet being adapted to register with said first-mentioned outlet, said cap provided on its lower end with an inwardly extending flange bearing against said neck, said iiange provided with slots at its outer edge, a spring device on said neck within said cap, said spring device comprising an annular body with an upstanding lip engaging said horizontal shoulder, and said annular body provided with depending integral ngers, adapted to pass through said slots on the ange, and seated against the inner face of said inwardly extending flange, substantially as shown and described.
4. In a device of the class described, the combination with a container provided with a neck, of a cap on said neck, said cap being provided on its outer end with an inwardly-extending iiange, said flange being provided with springfinger receiving slots, a spring device provided with downwardly-extending spring fingers between said neck and cap, said spring ngers being adapted to pass through said slots while said cap is being positioned upon said neck, and said spring iingers normally resting upon said flange between said slots.
5. In a device of the class described, the combination with a container provided with a neck, of a cap on said neck, said cap being provided with slots, a spring device holding said cap on said neck and provided with iingers between said neck and cap, said lingers being adapted to pass through said slots while said cap is being positioned upon said neck, and said lingers normally engaging said cap between said slots.
6. In a device of the class described, the combination with a container provided with a neck, said neck provided with a shoulder, of a cap on said neck, a spring device provided with a body engaging only said shoulder, said body provided with iingers extending downwardly beneath said body, and said fingers engaging only at their outer ends said cap.

In a device of the class described, the combination with a container provided with a neck, said neck provided with a horizontal shoulder, of a cap on said neck, said cap provided with a iiange, a spring device between said cap and neck, said spring device provided with a horizontal body parallel with and engaging said horizontal shoulder, said horizontal body provided with downwardly-extending fingers, and said fingers engaging at their outer ends said flange on said cap.
8. In a device of the class described, the combination with a container provided with a neck, said neck provided with a horizontal shoulder, of a cap on said neck, said cap provided with a ange, a spring device between said cap and neck, said spring device comprising a flat split body parallel with said shoulder and with a portion at the split end engaging the shoulder, said body also being provided with downwardly extending fingers cut from the marginal edges of said body, and said fingers engaging at their outer ends only said iiange on said cap.
9. In a device of the class described, the combination with a container provided with a neck, said neck provided with a horizontal shoulder, of a cap on said neck, said cap provided with a ange, a spring device between said cap and neck, said spring device comprising a ring-like split body, said body positioned under said shoulder and provided at the split end with an upwardly extending lip engaging said shoulder, said body also provided on its upper edge only with downwardly extending fingers, and said iingers engaging at their outer ends only said ange on said cap.
